I agree, he looked pretty good out there. Better than Tony Williams ever did, so it should end up an improvement. I can't say the same for John Thornton, I didn't think he looked good, but oh well, it's preseason, things will get worked out.

agreed a bit on thorton.

I'm watching the replay now and I've seen him overpursue or get washed out a couple of times.

Rumor has it that Askew may be coming back this week. Lewis mentioned in last week's press conference that he's really looking for him to step up. He's a beast physically, but has those motor questions - which can't be helped by sittin on his toosh this last month so he'll jump into things pretty out of shape.

Robinson looked very good IMHO.

The guy's #'s last year for Miami are impressive too, didn't realize the man had 71 tackles - for an interior d-lineman that's an accomplishment.

Yeah, when I saw that 71 tackles statistic show up on the screen, i was very surprised. If he can manage to be that productive this year, then great, though there are only so many tackles to go around.

B-Rob looks like a definite upgrade. The big man moves, plus times his jump well vs. pass w/o getting knocked on his a$$.

Thornton had a couple decent plays, blew up a Dillon run for Justin and Odell to close in fast. But overall, he's got to do more anytime he gets just 1 blocker on him -- be it off stunt or straight ahead.

It does look like B-Rob on the field will help Thornton make more plays.

Langston Moore got flat out shoved out of the way on pass rush. The Bengals will need better play out of rotation DTs both to improve Run D and pass rush.

One play stood out for me last night...the patriots ran a sweep to the opposite side of Robinson. He fought across the guard who was blocking him, and was really hustling down the line to drive the ball carrier out of bounds (he also landed on top of him, which I also like to see).

Overall, I think this defense is going to be very solid. Justin Smith, Odell Thurman, and Robinson in particular were flying to the ball from all over the field. That unit has speed to burn.

Same play caught my eye. It's good to have some hustlers out there for a change. I also (just watching Anthony Mitchell literally have a running back run out of his arms), think we're forgetting what an influence Madieu has on this D. Can't have too many play makers who are always around the ball. Eventually you get constant gang tackles, something that's been pretty rare around these parts for some time.

I disagree with you on Langston Moore. He looked pretty good to me. Mad some TFL and I think had a sack too.

I agree I thought Moore was in the backfield quite often. Actually had one play where he just out-quicked the guard thru the gap and blasted a running back for about a 3 yard loss, another play he was held (penalty was called) and made the QB rush the throw. Then he had a sack as well. He made an impact to me.

I agree, I thought the line played pretty well as a whole, they generated some pressure and didnt get backed down on the run. Robinson played solid all around. On multiple occasions they strung out runs plays, but the LB's werent always there to finish it off. I too thought Langston played really well, obviously he had the sack/fumble/recovery, but he seemed tough on a lot of other plays too. I remember him filling in well last year too, I won't be surprised to see his p-time increase.

Great to hear guys. I live out of state, and don't have the NFL network, so it's good to hear about the guys I wanted to watch.

Had I been able to see the game, Robinson would have been the guy I focused on for the defense. With all the talk about how the Bengals were cheap for not upgrading better than Robinson, I was really anxious tosee him play like I knew he could.

I knew he'd be a big upgrade... it's good to hear that he is meeting my expectations. Take that nay-sayers!

B-Rob (nice nickname!) did quite well. He looks better than I expected. The 1st team d-line only gave up one quality run to the pats. I agree that this unit will have speed to burn. Odell flies, Justin Smith looks to be in great shape, thornton moved well too.

I had a hard time seperating my emotional reaction to the 2nd and third teamers getting smacked like that with the reality that it is pre-season and means didly. 1st team looked good. DP, if and when he gets up to speed, will augment a very nice LB corp, and the db's are talent rich as well.

I am psyched.

Amen to that!

I can't say the same for John Thornton, I didn't think he looked good.

He's never looked good to me. He one of the reasons for that porous run defense the Bengals have had for far too long.

I agree with you guys. I think Moore should have Thornton's spot. Moore seems like he's more of a playmaker than Thornton.

Billy, where's your anti-Ravens flag?

Are you hiding something from us?

And why do you have a Cardinals flag?

Some outside of Cincinnati would say that about the Bengals.

However, we know that is incorrect. :player:

Man, if I had one, I assure you it would be flying. The site had none for either the Ravens or the Bengals. I don't know why. They sure had plenty for the Cowboys though!

Simple. I now have lived in Prescott Arizona since 1988, (the year that team moved here from St. Louis) and since that teams news usually dominates the local newspapers sportspage and television newscasts, you can't help but be well aware of what going on with them.

Well this year they moved their training camp from Flagstaff to the Embry Riddle Aeronautical University campus here in the mile high city of Prescott, and they do their workouts less than 5 minutes from my house. Here's one of the pictures I took of Kurt Warner throwing some passes:

warnerwithlawrencehamiiltonte5.jpg

*Sorry. I Fuzzed it up shrinking it down to fit, but you get the idea.*

Usually on my way home from work I'll drop by their practice field just to see how they're doing, and honestly, under Dennis Greens direction, they are a vastly improved team from last season.

Tonight they beat the plowboys 23-12, and didn't allow the Cowgirls a TD!

In the first quarter, Warner led the Cardinals on a 7 play, 27-yard drive. Then Neil (ex-Bengal) Rackers' hit a 41-yard field goal. Warner connected twice with wide receiver Bryant Johnson.

Kurt (two-time NFL MVP) Warner played well into the second quarter and led a 7 play, 85-yard drive that ended with a 31-yard strike to second year receiver Larry Fitzgerald. Warner finished with 14 of 19 attempts for 151 yards and a touchdown.

I wouldn't be surprised to see them win their division!

Now that's all I'm going to say about the Cardinals in this Bryan Robinson thread! :) Just to get back on topic, IMHO...if we had one more defensive lineman like Robinson, I wouldn't still be so worried about the run defense! :player:

I'm pretty sure we do. His name is Langston Moore.

I spoke to soon because Langston Moore sure did pour it on vs. the 2nd and 3rd team Pats O-line. (Game didn't start until 3 p.m. Sat. on Direct)

Would've been nice to have seen some of that from him last year. Moore seems to do better the lower he plays, but his tendency is to play straight up and he's neither quick nor strong enough to get away with it.

Even w/ the strong performance vs. backups, Moore shouldn't get anyone too excited. He looks like he'll be in the DT rotation, proly w/ Big Duane, but his old college backup at NT in the 3-4 Shaun Smith actually looks to have more potential for being an effective NFL DT.

As for Moore ahead of Thornton, can't see it happening. I'm not a particluar fan of Thornton but he'd still proly start on about 10 other NFL teams. I doubt Moore would even make 10 other teams.

I wouldn't either. Warner looks like he's gonna get the job done if his O-line can keep the pressure off him.

Did catch the 1st half of that game last night and gotta say that Roy Williams has proly spooked the goo out of JJ Arrington for his next 50 carries. Flat out nailed him.

But that Zona D-line is a force to be reckoned with. 2 great ends and solid DTs. Darnell Dockett is relentless.
