walzav29 Posted August 8, 2005 Report Posted August 8, 2005 Gil said yesterday (on Sirius) that the reason the Bengal's can't just "give him the little bit" of money to get him in is the following. Say it's just $10,000. Multiply that by 49 guys and that's when you get into problems. Everyone will try this. The Bengals just have to hold tight, and let Pollack waste half of his rookie season. It's Pollack's decision and he is only hurting himself. Landon Johnson will do fine. Quote
Section 310 Posted August 8, 2005 Report Posted August 8, 2005 I think Pollack has little to no leverage at this late date. He has missed the majority of training camp and will be of little use to the defense whether he signs today or the day before the season opener. Therefore, why would the Bengals budge? The longer this goes on, the more likely it is that the team pulls their offer off the table. Pollack's other problem is that he has to sign before the first game or he will lose 1/16th of his salary...a game check or two would likely exceed the amount of money being argued over right now.As for the doom's day scenario of a season long holdout, Pollack would be committing financial suicide. He would reenter the draft, but lose an entire year's salary. He would also have no hope of being selected as high as 17 again. Thus, the contract he agreed to next season would have no where near the $7.7 million in guaranteed money. This holdout benefits no one. The two sides need to shuffle their papers and come up with some deal that allows everyone to save face. Quote
skyline Posted August 8, 2005 Report Posted August 8, 2005 I'm as unhappy about this holdout as anyone.Still, I have complete confidence that it will get done, and as walzav said...I have utmost confidence in Landon Johnson to fill the role admirably. Quote

Wraith Posted August 8, 2005 Report Posted August 8, 2005 As a former Bengals Insider poster I have to apologize for Spain...yes, he is here because we threw him out.For myself I am here from there because, I while I realize this is just an escape from reality I found I would rather spend it with decent people with football takes than with a bunch of complete jackasses who spend all their time flaming each other. If you're lucky he'll get drunk and explain how he commits trans-Atlantic wire fraud at his local whorehouse. Not to mention what he thinks of Mexicans, homosexuals and southerners.A classy guy, all-around. Quote
