walzav29
Pollack and Thurman are in camp by Thursday playoffs. If they are not in by Thursday. No playoffs. That simple.
StripesNTn
Pollack and Thurman are in camp by Thursday playoffs. If they are not in by Thursday. No playoffs. That simple. Not a worthwhile prediction. Hell remember we could have winning record this year and miss playoffs. Pollack is the one who really needs in camp, Thurman is natural MLB and worse comes to worse a Thurman/Landon rotation wont be bad to start year. Stripes
You could very well be correct, but I don't like the thought of two rookies being the deciding factor of our season. I say if they don't make camp soon, and aren't ready for the opener, we have enough depth to hold off the early schedule while they prepare. I also expect them to be ready anyways. AMC
If our playoff hopes ride on two rookies we won't make the playoffs anyway! We'll be fine if they miss a little camp. Marvin will make adjustments accordingly.....
ArmyBengal
PREDICTION...If the rest of the defense doesn't step up, while the rookies figure out the system and the speed of the game, then the only prediction worth while making, will be are we as crappy as the Browns ?? The answer will still be NO !!! However, in my thought process, I would say, if we can stop the run as a whole defensive unit, then we make the playoffs. If we get ran the F**K over again, we don't.WHODEY !!!
derekshank
Yeah, it's a little bit extreme to say playoffs ride on the two rookies being in camp on time. It is more reasonable to say that our success in our first two games will rely on these rookies being prepared. We need to beat Cleveland on the road (which we should be able to do, with or without the rookies) and it would be nice to win our home opener against Minnesota. This would certainly be a step in the right direction toward making the playoffs, so by extension, a playoffs comment could be legitimate, but if Landon Johnson can play, it's no worry with Thurman. Thurman won't play until he's ready. As far as Pollack goes, he better get his butt in there... but even if he doesn't, I don't expect his production to be much worse that Hardy's. We'll just have to win 58-48 again.Once these guys start getting playing time, we'll forget about whether or not they made it into camp a couple days late. It's just those first 2-3 games that will really be effected, and Marvin wants a fast start, so I expect the Bengals to be working at getting these guys signed on time. I'll start worrying if they aren't signed before Monday.
walzav29
These guys have to be in prime run-stopping condition before we face the Steelers and Ravens. It seems that everytime there is a holdout there is an injury. I hate that.
NJ29
I think that if Pollack and Odell miss some camp, which they will, then it will only be a day or two, othing along the lines of a holdout. Just taking some time to come out with a good contract for both sides. I'm not worried about this at all.

membengal
You don't remember last year? Chris Perry's being in late is NOT the reason the Bengals missed the playoffs.ML worked long long hours with Pollack and Thurman this summer...if they miss time, hopefully that work will pay off when they do get in.This team's hopes of making the playoffs do not rise and fall on whether or not they are in camp every day. This team's hopes of making the playoffs rise and fall, in large measure, on CP's right arm. If the D takes some time to gel, the offense is going to have to live up to its billing and carry the team. If it can do that for the first month or two while the D comes together, this team will make the playoffs. If it is less than we think it can be, the team will not make the playoffs, Thurman/Pollack in on time or not...
Tee
I got to disagree about Rookies defining our season.... TURNOVERS are the key! Here is a HUGE stat:In 32 games under Lewis, the Bengals are 9-1 with a plus differential. They are 4-2 when turnovers are even but 3-13 with a minus differential.1. Win the turnover battle.2. Play soild Defense.3. Pound, Pound Pound the ball. Esatblish the running Game with RUDI-RUDI-RUDI. :player: I'll say 10 or 11 wins and a playoff birth. derekshank
Those turnovers however are a differential. It has as much to do with Carson Palmer not throwing INT's as it does with the defense forcing them. Turnover differential is a team stat, not a defensive one. Similarly, the Bengals are 0-16 in games that the opponent scored more points than us, and 16-0 in games where we scored more than the opponent. Point differential is also a team stat, and not an offensive one. Both are important, which is why we need both to play well. The offense will be better than the defense, and we must rely on it for the first few games. Hopefully our defense will be able to pull its own weight by the time we start playing important conference games... but defensive turnovers is no more important than the offense scoring points.
