Wasen't threre a article along time ago where kitna said he's happy with being bengals #2QB and playing for 1million dollars & wanted to stay here rather then go somewhere else???

If we can keep him for 1million dollars =P I say keep him for a few more years(like his 11th or 12th year) after that mybe he can become a QB coach or something :P

bad in europe by what standards? mb look at the roster that he had and the injuries that were experienced during that season for him at receiver then talk to me. Krenzel at least had the luxury of a decent back, bramlet didnt. Look what bramlet did early when he had decent weapons. now compare.

Oh I don't know, and I don't care. Maybe Bramlet was the best QB in all of the Europe league... kind of like Skip Hicks was the best RB last year. By the way, it sure is nice to have Skip Hicks on the roster after all of his European success.

Wait.. I forgot, the Europe league is just a poor man's college football. At least they are allowed to blitz in college. I really don't want to hear about how terrible the talent around Bramlet, while Krenzel was surrounded by future hall of famers such as Thomas Jones, Bobby Wade, David Terrel, and Justin Gage.

The fact is, I have no evidence that Bramlet is better than Krenzel or vice versa, but if I had to guess, Krenzel won his first 3 of his 5 starts in the NFL (with the Bears, who by the way only won 5 games all year) while Bramlet hasn't taken an NFL snap. Marvin Lewis will make the decision, but the edge seems to go toward Krenzel.

krenzel is worse and doesnt have a clue on the offense. bramlet just came back after using a diff offense and slowed a bit due to it...so thats why they get krenzel. krenzel wont make the roster.

I think this will be a good battle between Krenzel and Bramlet. They both should see lots of action in preseason.

I didn't see Krenzel last year but saw plenty of Bramlet in NFLE. Bramlet has real skills but made increasingly bad choices as the season went on. Yes, he lost his top 2 WRs but that doesn't explain the kind of horrible throws he was making after his fast start came to a grinding halt.

Still, I'm inclined to give Bramlet the edge as 3rd QB and Krenzel the edge over Haldi for the PS.

Not even close to being the best in Europe. Dave Ragone (Texans--Louisville product) split the offensive player of the year a RB, and if not for one dropped ball, would have won the World Bowl. Remember, Akili Smith played in this league and looked sort of good this year, and then got cut by the Bucs.

Not incredibly excited either way about Bramlet and NFLE.

For some reason I just cant get too excited on who wins out for the third string QB position

Agreed... isn't it about time for a new article on Bengals.com? everytime i see Krenzel in that Bears jersey I just think about how much we are reaching for a good topic to talk about.

I don't even care if it's true Hobson! just get us riled up!

i happen to like krenzel the guy makes plays and wins period. i watched bramlet play in nfle he was ok at best . i like what krenzel has to offer more that bramlet. i think of it as if our #1and #2 goes down i would rather have krenzel play that bramlet

If #1 and #2 go down, I'll be too depressed to get out of bed, let alone what Craig Krenzel at the helm.

Actually, the only way I am going to be excited is if Bramlett starts going nuts like he did in my madden '05 game. In franchise mode 2007, bramlett was bi*ching about not starting over Palmer, so I traded him. He's starting for the RAVENS now, in season 2009. Pretty good, too.

DON'T EVEN THINK IT!! :(

If such a thing does come to pass, You'll find me laying on my living room floor with my head freshly ventilated with a .45 caliber hole!

<I am still waiting for Mike Brown to show his true colors... However, I don't see Mike wanting to pay a backup qb 7 figures a second longer than absolutely necessary.

I hope I am wrong, but I have a feeling that trading or releasing Kitna may be a trade off for possibly keeping P-dub.>

The Bengals offense is very different from San Francisco's. Mentoring their young QB would not be as successful as mentoring Palmer.

IMHO, Kitna is not as valuable to any other team as he is to the Bengals (and he's smart enough to know this, which is why he wants to stay with the Bengals). He has played with Brat's offense for years now (including at Seattle) and totally understands it. The team members believe that if Palmer goes down with injury, they can still win with Kitna because they've done it before and because Kitna is a leader who has gotten the confidence of his teammates.

As long as he'll stay for a million dollars or less, I think he'll be here.

I suspect Krenzel WAS recommended by Cooper (I still maintain he is the best judge of NFL talent in the country right now). I'm sure he recommended him because he is the epitome of the type of player Marvin wants. He is a WINNER (the biggest contribution Marvin has made to the Bengals is replacing the ingrained losing attitude with a winning attitude and Krenzel would be another player with the attitude he is looking for). Also, Krenzel is a leader and smart enough to learn Brat's offense within a reasonable amount of time. I think he will be the number three QB.

Obviously Cooper's fingerprints are all over this. And as long as were talking about #3 QB's it hardly matters. But as far as judging NFL talent, I'm hoping ML sticks with the Tobins.

Krenzel didn't win games last year due to anything he did. The games the Bears won last year with Krenzel at the helm were won by defense and special teams. I watched him on the Monday Night game, and he was awful. While he might get better with experience, I like Bramlet cause of his skills and knowledge of the playbook. Bramlet's been in the system for two years now. Krenzel has to learn it from scratch.

Bengals add Krenzel to QB mix

Former Ohio State signal caller picked up; linebacker Abdullah is released

By Mark Curnutte

Enquirer staff writer

BACK IN THE BUCKEYE STATE

Craig Krenzel was 24-3 as a starter for Ohio State before going 3-2 as a starter with the Bears last season. Here are his rookie year stats:

Year Team Att Comp Yds TD Int Rating

2004 Bears 127 59 718 3 6 52.5

Though his chances of playing, at least in the near future, appear to be slim, quarterback Craig Krenzel was acquired Monday off waivers by the Bengals.

Krenzel joins a quarterback derby headed by starter Carson Palmer and veteran backup Jon Kitna. The team has two other quarterbacks on its roster: Casey Bramlet, who just completed a season playing in NFL Europe, and rookie free agent Josh Haldi of Northern Illinois.

Kitna's contract is due to expire after the 2005 season, and he said Saturday that his agent and the Bengals have not yet talked about a new deal.

Krenzel, waived by Chicago, played in six games with five starts in 2004 for the Bears. He won three of his starts and was 59-for-127 passing for 718 yards, three touchdowns and six interceptions.

Ohio State was 14-0 in 2002 when Krenzel was a junior and won the NCAA championship.

The Bengals made two other roster moves on Monday, and their roster stands at 84 players - including the seven rookie draft picks that remain unsigned.

The Bengals waived linebacker Khalid Abdullah and defensive tackle Terrance Martin.

Abdullah, a third-year player, was the Bengals' fifth-round draft pick in 2003. He played in 16 games as a rookie before spending the entire 2004 season on the injured reserve list because he dislocated an ankle early in training camp.

Also a third-year player, Martin was on the Bengals' roster for the final nine games last season after signing as a free agent. He played in two games. He originally signed as a college free agent with Houston in 2003, playing in 12 games with one start for the Texans.

In Chicago, Krenzel was let go in favor of Kurt Kittner and Ryan Dinwiddie, who are left to compete with Kyle Orton, Chad Hutchinson and starter Rex Grossman.

wow the bears sure have QB problems
