Kirkendall Posted June 20, 2005 Report Posted June 20, 2005 Oh great, another OSU guy.... Funny. USC (you) and OSU (everyone else). We meet in the middle somewhere. Quote

derekshank Posted June 20, 2005 Report Posted June 20, 2005 Oh great, another OSU guy.... Funny. USC (you) and OSU (everyone else). We meet in the middle somewhere. Yeah, being and OSU fan, let's just hope that the quality of our college team is not judged on a basis of which is the better Bengals QB.But really... I like Krenzel a lot, seeing how he led us to a national title (I bet Carson is at least a little jealous of that), so I'm glad I can root for him to succeed again... although I hope he never needs to get on the field (unless it's a blowout). Quote
HoosierCat Posted June 20, 2005 Report Posted June 20, 2005 They need someone to throw balls at practise. Could be. OTOH, Krenzel does have actual NFL game experience, and a 3-2 record as a starter. He can certainly challenge Bramlet for the 3 spot. Quote
BENGAL Posted June 20, 2005 Report Posted June 20, 2005 Who do you think will get the 3rd QB spot? Bramlet, Krenzel, or that Josh guy (Rookie FA) Quote
derekshank Posted June 20, 2005 Report Posted June 20, 2005 Well, I don't think they picked up Krenzel just to put him on the practice squad. My guess is that he'll be their #3, or else they will waive him, similar to how they claimed and then waived Kittner last year. Quote
LABengalsFan09 Posted June 20, 2005 Author Report Posted June 20, 2005 PR move for Krenzel so that he can retire a Bengal tomorrow. Quote
Kirkendall Posted June 20, 2005 Report Posted June 20, 2005 although I hope he never needs to get on the field (unless it's a blowout). Yea Big D. My heart can't handle that anymore. Quote

Perhaps a Kitna trade in the making???Well, I think Krenzel is in as a warm body. Bram had a great run at NFLE before he fell off towards the end. And let's not forget, if we have to go to #3, our season is f'ed anyway. Quote
DesperateDerelict Posted June 20, 2005 Report Posted June 20, 2005 I'm giving 2500:1 odds that Craig beats out Carson for the starter's position. Any takers? Quote
NJ29 Posted June 20, 2005 Report Posted June 20, 2005 FSU? Nice, did you know god plays QB for them? LOL. Yea, yea. The guy has a serious problem. I hate Sexton. I actually found it as good news, now Xavier Lee can play QB instead of Jesus Christ the Average. Quote

I don't know what those stupid smiley faces mean (If you'll notice, I never use them), but I take it that you were kidding about the Kitna trade thing. It does make for interesting conversation though... so lets.Kitna seems perfectly happy in Cincy, and from what I've read, he would be quite happy to be known as the guy who helped groom a hall of famer in Carson Palmer. Also if Palmer gets hurt for an extended basis this season, we're pretty much done, but if Palmer would go down for a game or two, I think Kitna could fill in well enough to win one or both of them (depending on who we are playing), whereas I wouldn't have the same confidence in Krenzel or Bramlett (regardless of who we were playing), so I don't think it is even a wise move from our point of view.I guess I could understand a Kitna trade if it could get us a valuable defensive piece, like at SS... but from where? I don't think there are too many teams that will give up highly talented players on defense for Jon Kitna. Who is looking anyway? The only teams that would be willing to trade for Kitna are teams with a bad QB, but that havea chance to take a shot at going to the playoffs. Miami doesn't fill that description. Neither does Cleveland... maybe TB, but they are probably happy with Greise. Really the only team I can think of is Baltimore, and we better not give up Kitna to them!Anyway. Like I said... it makes for interesting discussion, but doubtful. Quote
ShulaSteakhouse Posted June 20, 2005 Report Posted June 20, 2005 No way do you trade Kitna. In fact I wonder if he'll become the QB coach when/if Zampese leaves. As for Krenzel, not sure I understand that move.Either someone lost a lot of confidence in Bramlett, or someone has liked Krenzel for a long time and wants him to push Bramlett in camp. That or someone is actually wanting to make some kind of minor deal for Bramlett? (very doubtful, but a lot stranger things have happened) Quote
HoosierCat Posted June 20, 2005 Report Posted June 20, 2005 or someone has liked Krenzel for a long time and wants him to push Bramlett in camp. Could very well be. Krenzel is an Ohio product, after all, and the front office has surely seen lots of him. And competition at the No. 3 spot is good to have with Kit's contract winding down. I don't think the bengals are in any rush to see Jon go, but I also think there's a good chance this is his last year in stripes. Quote
jjakq27 Posted June 21, 2005 Report Posted June 21, 2005 As for Krenzel, not sure I understand that move. Can you say John Cooper? Quote
DontPushMe Posted June 21, 2005 Report Posted June 21, 2005 quite possibly the worst quarterback in the history of the NFL to have a winning record as a starter Quote
HoosierCat Posted June 21, 2005 Report Posted June 21, 2005 some thoughts from hobson (empahsis added)...Anyone who knows Bengals president Mike Brown’s admiration for smart quarterbacks and Ohio State products can’t be surprised by the claim of the 6-4, 230-pound Krenzel. Krenzel, a fifth-round pick of the Bears in 2004, quickly fell out of favor when Chicago changed offensive coordinators in the offseason even though he became just the seventh rookie since 1970 to win his first three starts....Of course, Krenzel had the same knock [inaccuracy] in Columbus, where he completed just 55 percent of his passes his senior year. But his name will always be magic in Ohio after leading the Buckeyes to a 14-0 record in 2002 that included his MVP performance in the national title game. He didn’t have a good percentage in the Fiesta Bowl, either, hitting just seven 7 of 21 passes, but it was vintage Krenzel. He brainstormed for 81 yards on the ground on 19 carries in finding a way to win in overtime.Translation: he'll help fill the seats in Georgetown. If he makes the cut, that's a bonus. Quote
StripesNTn Posted June 21, 2005 Report Posted June 21, 2005 As for Krenzel, not sure I understand that move. Can you say John Cooper? My thought exactly.Krenzel does have a couple things going for him. He isn't the best athelete but:1. He is very smart and should learn the playbook quickly.2. He is a winner. Quote

vman1186 Posted June 21, 2005 Report Posted June 21, 2005 quite possibly the worst quarterback in the history of the NFL to have a winning record as a starter Haha! More than likely, the Bengals picked him up because they saw something, there are no trades or grand plans in the making. Hate to ruin the "speculation party!" (Unless I'm wrong, of course) Quote
ShulaSteakhouse Posted June 21, 2005 Report Posted June 21, 2005 Joe Germaine revisted?Yep, will probably end up that way. And would people actually go to a Georgetown camp just to see Krenzel get 4 snaps and run some drills? Yikes.I don't think Krenzel would've signed if he didn't have some chance of making the roster - not sure what he's thinking if that's not the case. If they were confident Bramlet was their #3 guy I just think they would've signed someone less expensive and experienced. Otherwise a guy like Krenzel could have a better chance of catching on elsewhere I would think. Quote
andybren Posted June 21, 2005 Report Posted June 21, 2005 Joe Germaine revisted? Or maybe he's the next Kent Graham. Not setting the world on fire with physical ability, but possessing enough smarts and leadership to do better in the pro's than he did in college. But in the end, this isn't going to matter. At most they're grooming the #2 of the future. But give 'em credit for one thing, they've got fans talking about the least interesting position battle on the team. Quote
