Anybody hear Lap?

I was listening to the LanceMcAlister Show and Dave Lapham was on there saying all kinds of great things about the Bengals and also hyping the "Taste of the NFL" thing that is going on tomorrow (Friday) night.

Lap said that the following people have been looking good. Palmer, Kitna and Deltha ONeill. He also mentioned a DB that they picked up from Atlanta (Brandon Williams?). He said that guy has been really impressive. Madieu Williams could be a Pro Bowler this year. He said it looks like "safety by commitee" on the SS side for now.

He also talked about what a good job Breshnehan has done with Pollack and Thurman and moving Thornton and JSmith and how he expects big things from that defense. Some concern was expressed about "protecting" the rookies from getting burned early but he gave praise to Georgia's defensive coaches for their work with these guys too.

If anyone else heard it please feel free to add more. He talks so damm fast I have trouble remembering it all!

Lap is to the Bengals what Nuxie was to the reds . . . sometimes inaccurate, always supportive, and ALOT of fun when the home team does something right!

Don't want to make this a thread about Lapham...thanks for the summation, I didn't get to hear it.

Any Bengals talk, from Lap or anyone else at this point is like coming across a glass of water in the desert.

And, while Lap is def a homer, it has also been very possible over the years to tell when he is worried about some aspect of the team...usually hedge statements like "they really need akili to stop being so awful etc. etc.", if he is being straight bullish, I don't take that as a bad thing.

Again, thanks for the write-up.

I don't read much into anything about how players look at this point - all they're doing is lining up and running drills in shorts.

All that matters is that they win games and go to the playoffs - don't care about Pollack helping old ladies cross the street or if Kitna's high on life or if Madeiu makes the pro bowl (doubtful) or if Willie isn't in some guy's top ten - just win more than you lose, however they do that, I don't care, just do it.

Living out here in Arizona, I miss Joe Nuxall. He was total class. If Lap is anything close to Joe, he'll do just fine in Cincinnati.

I rue listening to Lapham broadcasts. I lived in Big XII where he did game of the week. If I wanted to hear my grandpa call the game, well...I guess I'd be out of luck, as he doesn't do those things.

He's terrible. "Bill Walton ranting" terrible. Except without so much hippie-legalize-weed undertone business.

Come on Shula, some of the stuff is enlightening or at least entertaining.

Like the Hobson feature the other day about the blind lady out on the field w/ some Bengals teaching a little football to her. And by the end of the story something really amazing happened -- Rudi caught a pass

And just a few minutes ago, I hear the name Chad Johnson on Total Access and by the time I look up, there's Marvin himself in shorts crawling through the passenger window of car over at the Kentucky race track to take a spin. Don't see that every day.

But I hear you on the bottom line:

WIN NOW

:o Hold on a minute! Marvin Lewis crawling into a stock car to drive some laps!?!?!

Post a link bro!!! That IS something you don't see everyday!

Lap is a knucklehead. Be glad you don't have to listen to his dribble. When something of importance does happen he's usually rendered speechless or says something like "wow, I can't believe what just happened." Meanwhile you're wondering what the Hey he's talking about. I'd like the color man to say more than "oh baby" or "yes" or "sweet" to describe the action. More importantly, just describe the action.

Lighten up Francis. Lap is a homer, no doubt about it, but that's what makes it fun. If you don't get goose bumps when Lap yells GO STANFORD during the Jennings' Super Bowl kick return, you are missing something. I'll take Lap every day and twice on Sunday's over blowhard Trumpy.

Bing-damn-go. A couple of years ago, I'm listening to the Bengals-Chargers on the computer (as I was living in Missouri, where the only thing permitted on Sundays are Chiefs football and Rams football). I'm listening to the call...Kitna takes the snap, and then "Oh God! Whoa! Look at him go! Whoops! Uh oh. Gosh darn it."

WTH just happened then? I had no idea. I felt dumber for having listened to that fraud of a sentence. Then again, my template of a color man is Jock Sutherland, formerly of WHAS UofL broadcasts. A smartass, but paints a vivid picture for you: "Man, Tick Rogers isn't exactly the kind of guy you want to see pull up and take out your daughter; he's got hands so fast you can't keep track of them all...."
