walzav29 Posted June 10, 2005 Report Posted June 10, 2005 I don't get this. No team has EVER won 3 Super Bowl's in a row, yet here we are everyone wondering how anyone will beat the Pats. I hate all of the NFL preview magazines, because all they do is reorganize the playoffs from the year before and have a different team play the Patriots. These guys are not the greatest team in history. They have lost both coordinators, have lost key players, and are starting to get the contract holdouts. They'll still beat the Colts though. That leaves the Bengals. Quote
walshfan Posted June 10, 2005 Report Posted June 10, 2005 the Pats are ONE of the greatest teams in history now whether you'd like to admit that or not.. 3 titles in 4 season.. a 34-4 record the last 2 years.... One of the best signal callers in football and definately one of the best minds in coaching and organization in Bill Bellicheck.. Never underestimate them... Quote
walzav29 Posted June 10, 2005 Author Report Posted June 10, 2005 Steelers, Niners, and Cowboys demolished their oppenents. The Patriots squeek buy. Brady is money, but they're a couple of field goals and an interception from being the Buffalo Bills. The above mentioned teams will beat the crap out of the Pats. They are good. I'm just saying that there is no way the will win the Super Bowl this year. They won't even make it. Quote
bengalboomer7 Posted June 10, 2005 Report Posted June 10, 2005 They crumbled this offseason with enough crap to fertilize my lawn. No more coordinators, no more Tedy, Seymour holding out, and picked up way too many aged role players. The dynasty ends this year, and it might get ugly up in Boston. Those fans up there are so high on thier horse they are primed for a crash landing. Quote
Ox Posted June 10, 2005 Report Posted June 10, 2005 Well, to quote Rick Flair - "To be the man, you've got to beat the man." Quote

BengalszoneBilly Posted June 10, 2005 Report Posted June 10, 2005 Well, to quote Rick Flair - "To be the man, you've got to beat the man." We did beat them soundly in Cincinnati, albeit preseason, but New England isn't an organization who takes any game lightly. Preseason or otherwise.Conversely we lost to them in New England in the regular season, but not until after giving them a damn good game and losing our starting QB to injury. It could have easily come out differently. This year I believe it will! Until then, Mr. Flairs comment stands. :player: Quote
CBin2k7 Posted June 10, 2005 Report Posted June 10, 2005 I give the Pats their props. I don't care who you are to lose only 4 games in 2 years is pretty amazing, especially in this era of the NFL where parody is the name of the game and any given Sunday any time can turn it around. But they may feel the effects of the O-Coordinator more than the D-Coordinator. The Pats seem to always find away, here's hoping it's the Bengals turn to find a way Quote
Kazkal Posted June 10, 2005 Report Posted June 10, 2005 I love tim dwight and all but patriots haven't really made many improvements this year took some major hits. Quote

BengalNation1281 Posted June 10, 2005 Report Posted June 10, 2005 I don't think that the Pats will be as good this year as they have been, but they are still one of the top two teams in the AFC. What they have accomplished over the last four years is amazing, and even though they seem to be falling behind and letting the rest of the AFC cath up to them, there is no reason to think that they are just going to roll over and die.I think that they will still be strong and will still make the postseason, but they aren't going to the SB this year. Still, one year without an SB title will be the motivation to be a monster in 2006.Having said that, I see the Bengals beating them in the playoffs :player: Quote
The Big Orange Posted June 10, 2005 Report Posted June 10, 2005 Bellichek is still a man amongst boys when it comes to braniac coaches. He's like Thomas Jefferson at the signing. There's some good guys in the room, George, he's a good leader, John's got nice handwriting, Ben's got some creative ideas, but everyone knows that if brain cells were land mass, he'd be the former USSR. derekshank Posted June 11, 2005 Report Posted June 11, 2005 Steelers, Niners, and Cowboys demolished their oppenents. The Patriots squeek buy. I am so tired of people being more concerned about the margin of victory than they are about the victory itself. This all sounds so familiar to the Buckeyes run to the National Championship. No one gave them a chance against Miami because they won so many games by less than a TD, but that is how Tressel does it. Is it possible that great minds think alike?Add to that the the NFL has parody now, and free agency makes it nearly impossible to win consistently year in and year out. The Steelers, Niners and Cowboys never had to deal with losing their great players in their prime, and there were plenty of really bad teams that acted as virtual byes back in the day. Nowaday's sure, you have your bad teams (Browns, Dolphins, 49ers) but if I'm not mistaken, one of NE's losses was to Miami on prime time TV. There are no free wins anymore, especially when every single team is gunning for you, and giving you their best play every week. This all adds up to the Patriots not only being a dynasty, but perhaps the most impressive dynasty in NFL history. Let me add that I hate them with a passion, and hope that all their success was actually riding on Weis and Crennel, but even if it was... that organization is still the class of the NFL until someone proves they can beat them in a game that matters. As of right now... no one can. Quote
TecmoFever Posted June 11, 2005 Report Posted June 11, 2005 Well said, Shank. If margin of victory meant anything, then we'd be talking about the Colts as the dynasty team. They go and beat up on teams like the Bears and Lions by 30 apiece, but when it comes to real football, they can't stand up to...you know who, the New England Patriots. I actually like the Pats and have rooted for them in all three Super Bowls. Of course I'd be ecstatic if the Bengals can knock them off their perch atop the AFC. Until they do, though, it's tough to talk too much smack until they've been dethroned. One more thing, you know a team (Pats) is good when a fan website (our beloved BengalsZone.com) has at least 500 mentions (with a little swagger) of their team playing well (and losing) to that aforementioned team. All offseason, we have hung our hats on the fact that we beat the Ravens and played well against the Pats. That's saying something about the Pats, IMHO. Quote
bengalboomer7 Posted June 11, 2005 Report Posted June 11, 2005 Bellichek just did what Marvin is acconplishing right now, and if you look it is crumbling in Ne as we speak. Billy got a bunch of overpaid whinos to believe in his philosophy(it's what good coaches are suppossed to do) He told these guys take a little less money and we'll win. Now you got guys like Tedy and other players are realizing (Seymour) that tomorrow is not gauranteed and they want that big payday. Look at some of the articles on Bengals.com and you can just see where Marvin has got everyone dipping into his Kool-aid. But this only lasts for so long and chinks in the armor come all the time. Billy is at the end of his run, they are too many factors that he can't control anymore. Marvin is starting his, but ti too will come to an end, could be tomorrow(unlikely) could be three Super Bowls later(also unlikely)That's what the NFL is right now. Coaches have to find ways to get overpaid primadonnas to perform, and to believe in what their working on and believe they are important.I bet Tony Robbins would have been a great football coach Quote
HoosierCat Posted June 11, 2005 Report Posted June 11, 2005 Add to that the the NFL has parody now Parity, not parody. No biggie, a common malapropism...I agree with you that the wins, and not the margin of victory, are what counts. And the Pats have been finding ways to win in what's been the toughest division of the toughest conference in football. There's no doubt that their run has been very impressive. That said, all good things must come to an end, and I was singularly unimpressed with the Pats in the Super Bowl last year. They gave the Eagles numerous chances to beat them into itty-bitty pieces...and Philly just declined and declined and declined. Really, that had to be one of the more pathetic SBs I've ever watched.I think the Jets take the AFCE this year. Quote
BengalByTheBay Posted June 11, 2005 Report Posted June 11, 2005 I respect you for calling your shot W29. I too think the Pats are just about played out and will gradually decline during this season. They have been a fortunate combination of system and personnel, but I think they're losing some of the key components to both. I could be wrong -- I was last year. I just think the AFC is catching up and figuring the Pats out. Quote
andybren Posted June 11, 2005 Report Posted June 11, 2005 Let's keep things in perspective. The first Patriots' Super Bowl win was at the expense of the Rams, who everybody said was going to win handily and become the next NFL dynasty. They didn't. (And they lost to a team that had been beaten by the pre-ML Bengals.) And now we find the Patriots in a similar position, looking like a shoe-in for a repeat appearance, but are by no means guaranteed anything. And for all the talk of Bellicheck being the smartest person on the planet, and how this means his team is a lock for playoffs, Super Bowl and Immortality, could somebody explain to me why Bellicheck's Browns didn't re-write the NFL record books? Wasn't he as smart then as he is now? I guess you could blame the Browns organization, but didn't they do pretty well once Billick and ML came on board? In the end, I guess they're going to have to play the games to see who goes to the big game. Quote
bengalboomer7 Posted June 11, 2005 Report Posted June 11, 2005 In the NFL your only as smart as the people that you surround yourself with. Quote
