Injury notes from bengals.com...

Wide receiver Peter Warrick (knee, leg) is still with the uncleared of linebackers Nate Webster (knee), Landon Johnson (shoulder), Khalid Abdullah (ankle), cornerback Rashad Bauman (Achilles), and running backs Kenny Watson (leg) and Chris Perry (sports hernia). He says he's not sure if he'll go in the mandatory mini. . .

Wide receiver Chad Johnson returned this week after an arthroscopic surgery house-cleaning on his ankle. . .

Webster still thinks he'll be ready by training camp.

I think Hobson lost a word or two in that first line, but I take it these are all the guys who have yet to be medically cleared. List hits a couple positions (MLB, RB) pretty hard...and with Warrick still so iffy you don't want to see Chad have so much as a case of the sniffles.

Obviously there's still time...but still it would be nice to see some of these guys start to come back.

They seem to be taking a more ... cautious / moderate approach to getting these guys back onto the field as compared to last year. Hope it was a lesson learned and that they'll all be healthy come pre season.

I'm not as concerned about Warrick as Webster tho. He's the one ( I think ) that is still very iffy. Too bad to ... think he could've done something if given the chance. Hopefully ( fingers crossed ) he'll get his chance this year.

Hey "ArmyBengal!" Your an experienced active duty medic. What's roughly the average amount of time needed to heal up from a "Sports Hernia?" (Which I suspect is no different than any other type of Hernia, except for the fact you got it playing a sport instead of moving a couch!)

I've had a hernia before, and I couldn't walk for almost a year! Then again, I was only 13 months old when I got it... I guess you can really strain yourself packin' a diaper!

New injury update from Hobson. Seems Askew is now iffy for the start of camp... :(

The Bengals are having a hard time keeping defensive tackle Matthias Askew on the field. They hope he is going to be back for the July 29 start of training camp after suffering what head coach Marvin Lewis called a foot injury.

Askew, a second-year tackle who missed 11 games last season with two different knee injuries, watched Wednesday’s voluntary practice standing on crutches with his foot in a boot. Asked if Askew would be back for camp, Lewis said, "Possibly."

INJURY NEWS: Running back Kenny Watson has returned to workouts after missing the first two weeks. Wide receiver Peter Warrick (knee, leg), linebackers Landon Johnson (shoulder), Caleb Miller (ankle), Khalid Abdullah (ankle), and Nate Webster (knee), cornerback Rashad Bauman (Achilles) and running back Chris Perry (sports hernia) are still on the mend.

STILL HERE: It’s June 1 and Webster is still here. Because the second surgery on his kneecap has put his training camp status in doubt and with the presence of rookie middle linebacker Odell Thurman, speculation had been the Bengals would cut Webster either before or after June 1. Webster says he’s received no indication of a release and continues to grind away. He thinks he’ll be ready for training camp and says he’s getting better every day in a regimen that includes jogging, running on the treadmill, the Stairmaster, and the stationary bike.

Injuries happen to all teams.. What you dont think the Bengals are going to have their share of injuries? Askew is just the first of a series of injuries the team will have.. Hopefully its not serious and he'll get the PT he needs to make the team.

Amen.

No doubt they will. But what's dismaying is that here were are, 5 months removed from last season and only about 100 days remaining until opening day...and the injury report doesn't appear to be getting any shorter. (And it's certain that once camp actually gets underway, there will be more bumps and bruises to add to the count.)

I'm not particularly worried at this point, there's still good deal of time for people to get healthy. But since the Bengals mostly passed on FA in favor of counting on players already here to improve and/or come back from injury, the situation bears watching. If the young'uns lose practice time and the injured guys can't make it back...that will impact how much internal improvement we get, and how rapidly it appears on the field.

The good news there is that Kenny Watson is back. No Watson would be a major loss IMO regardless if Perry can ever get on the field or not.

As for Askew..... <_<

How long do they wait for this guy to do something. He looked raw to the verge of worthless last pre-season. I'd hate to see a DT like Shaun Smith get cut while they invest another year in Askew without him getting on the field.

Today's IR update...

INJURY UPDATE: Cornerback Rashad Bauman (Achilles) returned this week for his first practices of the spring ... Right outside linebacker Khalid Abdullah (ankle) says he’ll back for the mandatory ... Running back Chris Perry (sports hernia) says he won’t, and is still hoping he can be back for the July 29 start of camp ... Lewis called middle linebacker Landon Johnson (shoulder) and wide receiver Peter Warrick (knee) questionable for next weekend. Linebacker Caleb Miller (ankle) can also be put in that group. . .Cornerback Keiwan Ratliff figures to in the mandatory even though he sat out Wednesday with what looked to be muscle soreness. . .

No mention of Askew...figure Perry and Webster are still scratches...Landon will be OK regardless, but Warrick and Miller need to get back on the field, IMHO.

Good point Joisey...injuries, or the recovery there of, means we either have no depth or are using up our depth...both scary and dangerous possibilities for a young team trying to solidify positions.

What happened with Madieu playing 3 different spots in 5 games and having to bring in Fontenot (even though he certainly did as well as anyone could have expected) took it's toll on our line and our secondary...but that is small potatoes compared to the shambles our linebacking corp was in.

This year I can't believe we will be in the same shape...certainly not with WR (top 5 corp in NFL), QB (best 1-2 combo in league), TE (who cares, do we even have any of these?), OL (looks pretty good), RB (a bit scary, I NEEEEEED to see Perry well), DL (okay, but not great), DB (very scary especially at SS, good at CB), LB (quite good, would like to see Landon, Webster, or Abdullah good to go), ST (good)

If we had gone for more FA and had them competing for spots with rooks, then it wouldn't be that big a deal, but I agree Joisey, we need a bunch of guys to get well...

I don't know if we are deep enough at DT. Askew is already hurting, and unproven, and even if he wasn't, there is a big drop off after Robinson and Thornton, but I guess we have quite a few DE's that can fill spots... it just makes me a bit nervous.

I'd agree with our depth at CB, (if Detha or Tory were to go down, we still have Ratliff, Brooks, and Madieu can fill a CB spot) but at safety I see us as extremely vulnerable.

Madieu, Herring, Kaesviharn, and then you have to go to guys like Myles and Body. A lot of people really like Myles, and he is a great special teamer, but for some reason I just don't feel all that comfortable with him being a safety. Maybe it's because he's too light.

In any case I think RB and the Safety positions are the 2 places where we can least handle injuries. Be careful you guys!!!
