rob_justdmb Posted May 21, 2005 Report Posted May 21, 2005 I've said it once here, I'll say it again. I think Kaesviharn stays. No one has him staying yet. They like his versatility, he's a great special teamer and the players voted him a captain in 2003 so he obviously holds more importance to the team than to you all. Quote

Why would we cut our 2nd or 3rd best offensive linemen last year? I KNOW we didnt pick up that many good o-linemen this offseason.I think moore stays, and wilkerson goes to the practice squad or is cut. Bobbie williams continues to be a good starter on our team.Without his excellent run blocking, the mediocre rb you all love for some reason would probly be a lot poorer right now. Quote
walshfan Posted May 21, 2005 Report Posted May 21, 2005 Bobbi Williams isnt going anywhere...He's a mauler on running downs and has stepped it up on pass protection.. He had to learn the schemes last year and played well the second half...Wilkerson isnt going to be cut... He'll more than likely be on IR if they can swing it or make the roster...If he does make the roster Moore will go...Wilkerson has more upside than Moore imo. If they keep 10 linemen Moore stays....Caleb Miller isnt as bad as he looked.. Put on some weight, get his ankle healty and he'll be a good special teams and backup LB.Im glad to see noone put Shaun Smith on the team.. He's nothing more than an emergency backup and I mean emergency.. the guy is more concerned about where the buffet table is than getting his arse in shape and playing football.. Quote

I don't have him as going anywhere.. Just saying that if they keep Moore... someones got to go.... He's the low hanging fruit IMO... It's him or Braham...Last I counted... I had 10 OL staying..Agree, Miller isn't going anywhere.Regarding, Smith... He started the game against Philly last year.. Would be useful to have if we are going to see a lot more 3-4 d this year. Thorton and Pollack would be insurance against DE injuries... Get Odell on the Field. Quote
HairOnFire Posted May 21, 2005 Report Posted May 21, 2005 First, the thread title says "You pick the roster". So I assumed that meant I could indulge in a few personal preferences instead of racking my brain trying to PREDICT the actual final roster. Example: I made room for Greg Brooks but have doubts he'll survive the final cuts. Last, before picking apart the opinions of others it might be nice to offer your own fake rosters, ehh? It only takes about five minutes. If you think K2 is worth keeping then show who you'd cut instead of complaining that he's worth keeping. And if you think so little of Wilkerson show who gets his spot. Quote

schweinhart Posted May 22, 2005 Report Posted May 22, 2005 Im glad to see noone put Shaun Smith on the team.. He's nothing more than an emergency backup and I mean emergency.. the guy is more concerned about where the buffet table is than getting his arse in shape and playing football.. I liked what I saw of Shaun Smith last year in the limited ops he got to play. He's the truest big bodied gap filler on the D-line and linemen got more of a load on their hands with him than the other DTs.Still, odds are against him to make the roster because he doesn't fit the stunting DT type that the Bengals scheme has relied on. Plus, any sign that he's eating his way out of the league won't help him.I'd like to see him get a pre-season in to see what he does. Even though he backed up Langston Moore at NT in college in a 3-4, Smith looks like the better option at NT if the Bengals run any 3-4 because Moore's bullrush peters and he struggles to shed NFL blockers. That, short yardage, and normal rotation in a 4-3 make Smith an interesting player in the DT mix. But the signing of Robinson does further decrease the chance that Smith stick. That plus Powell and Clemons as DE/DTs might make ML opt to go w/ just 4 straight DTs and use the undersized DE/DTs in rotation to shave a roster spot free for another position. Quote
HoosierCat Posted May 22, 2005 Report Posted May 22, 2005 Last, before picking apart the opinions of others it might be nice to offer your own fake rosters, ehh? Well, I could, but I'd only be copy/pasting yours for the most part. My only changes to your lineup would be...Powell over Patterson (Marvin loves Carl)Abdullah over Webster (Webster ends up on PUP, IR or cut; Abdullah too valuable on STs)Kooistra over Keift (Keift to PS)Stewart or Kelly gets the boot, keep just Schobel & (Stewart or Kelly) @ TE. Andrews lines up at TE in short yardage/goal-line/3-yards-and-a-cloud-of-dust type situations.Use the extra roster spot to up DBs to 10 and keep K2 (Marvin loves him, too). Quote
HairOnFire Posted May 23, 2005 Report Posted May 23, 2005 My only changes to your lineup would be...Powell over Patterson (Marvin loves Carl)Abdullah over Webster (Webster ends up on PUP, IR or cut; Abdullah too valuable on STs)Kooistra over Keift (Keift to PS)Stewart or Kelly gets the boot, keep just Schobel & (Stewart or Kelly) @ TE. Andrews lines up at TE in short yardage/goal-line/3-yards-and-a-cloud-of-dust type situations.Use the extra roster spot to up DBs to 10 and keep K2 (Marvin loves him, too). Marvin has to like something about Patterson too. He drafted him late, stashed him on the practice squad, and re-signed him to a 2-year deal the moment he was cut loose by the Jags. None of that screams love, but there's plenty of interest being shown....most importantly the continued interest shown after Patterson was lost and presumably replaced. So I gave Patterson the nod over Powell, a limited player I've seen quite enough of and a guy who may have a present role but doesn't really have a future with this team. Yeah, I know Patterson probably doesn't either, but he might....thus he makes my fake roster. I picked Webster over Abdullah due to my belief that Webster was signed to be a starter and is more highly thought of overall. I'm not convinced the Bengals are writing Webster off yet, and I decided not to split burning hairs over whether he was stashed on PUP or IR. And I don't see him being cut unless doctors determine his career is likely over. Plus liked what I saw in limited action last season. As for Abdullah, he passes the eye test easily, but I haven't seen enough from him to care if he stays or goes. I picked Keift over Kooistra because the Bengals determined they needed to spend a draft pick on a backup tackle prospect despite the fact that they had Kooistra and knew what to expect. I admit that's pretty thin, but there it is. In regards to the TE's I kept all of the current players in part because the Bengals have said they were satisfied with them, did very little in regards to a possible upgrade, and my own belief that the lack of production is due to a preference for multiple WR sets as much as a lack of talent. But Andrews or another prospect unseating Stewart wouldn't prompt so much as a shrug from me, and if it happens it'll probably be the first and last time anyone bothers talking about it....until next years draft. Quote
DontPushMe Posted May 23, 2005 Report Posted May 23, 2005 Keift was a great pick, and a big steal when we got him. There is no way Wilkerson makes the team and Keift doesnt. Kooistra AND Keift will both make the team, Wilkerson i dont think will Quote
Kazkal Posted May 23, 2005 Report Posted May 23, 2005 http://www.nfl.com/players/playerpage/187677To me nate doesn't really seem that impresive...+ we have landon johnson who had a far better rookie year then nate has ever had period and odell thurman so things aren't looking good for webster. Quote
DontPushMe Posted May 23, 2005 Report Posted May 23, 2005 Everything is stats to you guys. Jeez, watch the games!I dont think Webster will be on the team this year, and i openly criticized the signing of him, but looking at his stats doesnt tell anything. If you opinion isnt arrived at by watching the player play, its an invalid opinion. Quote
Kazkal Posted May 23, 2005 Report Posted May 23, 2005 I know stats don't mean everything but seeing how I live in oregon I don't catch alot of buc games so it's all I have to go with.but why would we draft odell if we were gonna count on Nate or why sit landon who had a great rookie year. Quote
HairOnFire Posted May 23, 2005 Report Posted May 23, 2005 If you opinion is arrived at by watching the player play, its an invalid opinion. Pushy, try to settle down. Take your meds. Think happy thoughts. Whistle a tune or two. Reach down and get a grip with both hands and then admit you didn't mean to say the above. I've got to admit that Pushy posts remind me of a comic strip that I always ignore called Cathy. Or is it Kathy? Regardless, big drops of sweat flying off in all directions. Frequent and loud utterings of...Gaaaakkk! Plus lots of shopping bags and buyers remorse. Quote
HairOnFire Posted May 23, 2005 Report Posted May 23, 2005 but why would we draft odell if we were gonna count on Nate or why sit landon who had a great rookie year. Perhaps the writing is truly on the wall for Webster, and I'm simply refusing to read it. However, I think it's quite possible the Bengals haven't given up on Webster and the drafting of Thurman is justified in no small part due to his own talent, but also in large measure due to the uncertainty associated with Websters injury. If Webster can't be ready at the start of the season then so be it...he'll have to be stashed...a move I'll strongly support as long as the doctors feel he'll regain his health if given more time. Last, Landon Johnson isn't going to sit, there are plenty of reps to around, but I think he was drafted to play the weakside....not the middle. Quote
Bobcat Bengal Posted May 23, 2005 Report Posted May 23, 2005 Yeah, I have a hard time believing that they're just willing to fling Webster off to the side so quickly, especially considering they signed him to a handsome deal the minute Free Agency was initiated.Keift and Wilkerson are gonna make the squad.Moore will be shown the exit.K2 will make the team, but this is his last year.
