andybren
IMO David Carr is waay overrated he hasn't showed me anything yet... He's a decent fantasy player though. Good yardage. But in the real world, you gotta wonder what their Sharper-less defense is going to be to able to do.I'm concerned about the Vikings. They were pretty inconsistent last year, but Culpepper's still a stud. Getting rid of Moss, starting off with a more stable RB situation...they could be dangerous. derekshank
I’m not as concerned about the Vikings as everyone else seems to be. Mike Tice said himself he isn't happy with their RB situation. Randy Moss didn't do anything until mid-season his rookie year (if I remember correctly), so why do expect Williamson to make such an immediate impact? I really think we should beat the Vikings. Culpepper has ridiculously small hands, which is why he fumbles more than any other QB in the league, and last year his production took a serious hit when Moss wasn't in the lineup. I don't think he is awful, but he is certainly not a top 5 QB (only in fantasy leagues is he a top 5 QB, and maybe not even that anymore as a Mossless QB. You might at least want to pick up Kerry Collins as a backup). I'm a Bengals fan, so I'm biased, but I think Culpepper will be the 2nd best QB on the field in that game, because we have the better WR's, and at least Marvin Lewis likes our RB's. The Vikes have an improved defense, but so do we. Our biggest weakness on defense will be that we are relying on at least one rookie (Pollack), but that is the same problem they have on Offense.I think because they are relying on Travis Taylor, and it will only be Williamson's 2nd NFL game the Bengals Defense will be able to keep us in the game enough for our high powered offense to do the damage necessary to win the game. I’d say the advantage goes to the Bengals...Not to mention the fact that it is in Cincy (we went 5-3 at home, and the Vikes went 3-5 on the road last year)I expect to win each of our first 4 games, and then lose to Jacksonville. Chances are we will lose a game we shouldn't in there and go 4-2 like I mentioned in an earlier post. However, if you really look at the teams we play early, it's not very intimidating. So in recap (I’m not making predictions here, just who should be favored)We should be favored against the BrownsWe should be favored against the VikingsWe should be favored against the BearsWe should be favored against the TexansWe will most likely not go 5-0 and thus lose to the Jaguars, but if we indeed go 4-0 we might be favored here too.We should be favored against the TitansThat is a 5-1 start if things go well. If things go great, a 6-0 start, and even if things go straight awful, I wouldn’t expect worse than 3-3.Man – when is the season going to start? I’m tired of talking about it, I want to watch it! Who Dey?!!

It still won't be easy, but being at PBS really ought to make the Bengals around 5 point faves heading into that one.
jditty47
we have blown out hte texans each time we played them and it wont change this time. we not only have a better team than what we've played vs them, they also have gotten worse at LB and other key positions like CB. please...we aint losin that one. rob_justdmb
To be fair, that game in 03 was not a blowout. Far from it. We were losing to start the 4th quarter, and only took the lead out to a TD with over 2 minutes left.

wookie
Well, its really way too early to start predicting the season...but it can be fun to throw out a few picks and see if you turn into Nostradamus. So:Week 1 Bengals are a 3 point favorite. They win this game convincingly, but not in a blowout. 1-0Week 2 Bengals win home-opener, low scoring game with the Vikes D keeping them in the game until Graham makes a late field goal ad the Bengals hold on to close out the win. Game is close at the half with the Vikings scoring just as time expires in the 2nd quarter. 2-0Week 3 Bengals run D is given their first real test against Cedric Benson...a rookie who will be making people sit up and take notice, even this early in the season. But, with the rest of the team being of questionable talent the Bengals should be able to get off to their best start since before I was in High School. 3-0Week 4 Glad this game is at home. The Texans have improved each year and they will put up a pretty good fight. Again the run D will be tested by Davis, and they have their own Johnson to worry about. WR Andre Johnson is every bit the threat that CJ is for the Bengals. Bengals Prevail by 7. 4-0Week 5 Going into Jacksonville will be very tough. The Jags have an excellent D...but they scored the fewest points in the league last year. It could be a 10-6 or 6-3 type of game...and its anyone's guess as to how it turns out. Bengals win (in my biased opinion) are the talk of the league, 10 min. stories are run about them on ESPN. 5-0After that it could get ugly...they go to Tennessee, who always seem to find a way to beat the Bengals....even though last year I'd say the Bengals were the better team. Bengals are on the road, and they have a bad week and drop their 1st game. 5-1Pittsburgh, Green Bay, and Baltimore follow before the bye and the Bengals are brought back down to Earth. 5-4 going into the Bye...6-3 best case scenario. After the Bye it doesn't get any easier. They have Indy at home, Baltimore at home, and go to Pittsburgh. I see them going 1-2 in this stretch and being 6-6...best case 7-5.The last 4 games are going to be the Bengals best shot to get into the Playoffs. A strong finish where they get Cleveland and Buffalo at home and go on the road to Detroit and KC. Buffalo and Detroit I think will give them the most trouble. Buffalo has a first year starter, 2nd year QB (like we had against them last year) and a D that took a hit this offseason but they will still be tough. Detroit has a ton of weapons on offense and could really be a surprise team this year if the D can gel. I see the Cleveland and KC games as very winnable. KC still has a tough team, but I think the Bengals win it. 3-1 in this stretch...9-7 finish...10-6 best case.9-7 possible wild-card playoff spot...10-6 could be either a definite Wild-card...or even possibly a division title and legitimate spot in the Playoffs. But who knows...still could see some new faces around and chances improve, or one thing after another hurts the teams chances to put their best players out there each week and we struggle to hit 8-8 again. Thats why they have to play those games every Sunday and why we have to sit on the edge of our seats and hope they don't find a way to f*#@ things up each week.At least there's always beer....and boobies, right Billy!!! PS: 14 of the 16 games the Bengals play will feature the opponent scoring in some fashion right before the end of the 2nd Qtr. I just didn't feel like predicting it in all those games up top. Note to Bres...fix that issue so I'm proven wrong in this thread.

If the Bengals D can't stop the run again this year then they'll be seeing less of Favre trying to win the game on his aging arm and more of Ahman Green's A$$ as he runs by them.Hopefully that will be less than and issue this year, and the Green Bay game was the 1 game in that stretch that I thought the Bengals may be able to win.Ah yes, the wookie is good the wookie is wise!! The Big Orange
I put a lot of stock in the coaches we will be facing along with the players, that being said, Cleveland will take a while for the coaches to get it togetherTice is a joke and should have been let goe 2 years agolovey...the book is still out on him...hard to judge without a QBhouston, good coach, he's creating a similar environment to what we have hereJacksonville...Del Rio is a Stud...watch out for him...a Marvin ProtegeTenn...has a worn out system and hasn't changed enough with the times, but the coach will get the most out of his playersPitts...there system works and their coaches are very committed to itGB...this year will give Sherm the doorBalt...too stubborn and inflexibly, committed to certain personal, ala Boller, to ever take it to the next levelIndy...great coaching...lots of trust to their players, not a good post season planDetroit, way too much a players coach, but they have fun even losingBuffalo, I don't know enough about the coaches to commentKC, great coaching, but the feel good feeling only goes so far, starting to lose his fireThis is just kind of a novice's observation

(Nate Webster in particular for me.) I feel that since he's now the Head coach instead of the coordinator, he might be approaching this issue with a broader goal in mind. He wouldn't be a good head coach if he did everything just like he did as a coordinator as some Head coaches have done here in the past, **COUGH!!**LeBeau**COUGH!!** wouldn't you think? **COUGH!!**Coslett**COUGH!!**
