Who will be the Bengals 4th round selection?I like the following as of right now:Ronald Fields DT Mississippi Sean Consodine S IowaBill Swancutt DE Oregon St.Rober McCune LB LouisvilleLorenzo Alexander DT CalifoniaAnthony Bryant DT AlabamaVince Fuller S Virginia Techtell me what you think Quote
WhoDey93285 Posted April 24, 2005 Report Posted April 24, 2005 I'm staying on the Shazor train and not getting off until we freakin pick him! Quote
AGrizzlyBaer Posted April 24, 2005 Report Posted April 24, 2005 hawthorn has fallen like a rock... you could hope for shazor in the 4th or try brimmer later. or get yourself a safety Quote
chrishcovga Posted April 24, 2005 Report Posted April 24, 2005 Not sure who's going to make it to day 2. but gotta think 1. Antajj Hawthorne2. C.J. Mosely3. Earnest Shazor4. Elton Brown - G, highest rated interior lineman at one time.5. Jason Brown, 6. James Butler7. Darryl Blackstock - might not be a need, but he's a very good pass rusher.8. Donte Nicholson9. Ben Wilkerson10. Brandon Browner - CB/s has good man to man coverage skills , is physical, so he could be groomed to play safety. Quote
alleycat Posted April 24, 2005 Report Posted April 24, 2005 I agree with Chris. So what about overall day 2 needs?1. Center2. S3. Brandon Jacobs (sleeper TE) Quote
andybren Posted April 24, 2005 Report Posted April 24, 2005 Surfing around to figure out whose left on the various guru lists, it looks like there are some fairly solid safeties still available -- Nicholson, Considine, Shazor. And seeing that only Spencer, Maas and Incognito were taken in the first 3, it looks like we were wise to hold off on the C pick. And Maurice Clarett won't be a temptation, so that's good too. Quote
AGrizzlyBaer Posted April 24, 2005 Report Posted April 24, 2005 jason brown is still around he could be an option Quote
WVUBengal Posted April 24, 2005 Report Posted April 24, 2005 I say a safety or a center, Braham isn't going to last forever. So far so good somewhat, just hope we do choose a choose a interior lineman because we do need one. I don't see Bobbie Williams making the Pro Bowl any time soon . Not saying a rookie would but we need some help inside. I say if Shazor is there why not draft him, we have already looked at 2 guys with supposed "character problems." Hoping that is a good pick and already getting excited for the opener against the Clowns Quote
BeyondTheJungle Posted April 24, 2005 Report Posted April 24, 2005 I know the team likes to do things with Best Player Available, but I have to think in terms of positional need or else I have information overload. That said, the positions I think we need to address are: D-Line, Center, Safety, and Tight End.So my top picks are: DLine: Hawthorne, Mosley, EllisonSafety: Shazor, ConsidineCB: BrownerCenter: Brown, WilkersonI don't know enough about the TE depth to know if there's someone left who would be an improvement over the three-headed monster we already have. bengalsfan33 Posted April 24, 2005 Report Posted April 24, 2005 I want a safety and Shazor is still available somehow, but I wouldn't mind Wilkerson or Brown drafted to play center. Quote
schweinhart Posted April 24, 2005 Report Posted April 24, 2005 It's inneresting to notice that only one SS has been drafted -- Thomas Davis-- and he's looking like he may go LB.Of the safeties who could maybe be interchangeable between free and strong, only Josh Bullocks and OJ Atogwe have been drafted.James Butler still looks like the best available interchangeable safety to me but at this point the way teams have opted for CBs w/ FS skills instead of true safeties, he might be available into the 5th.Plenty of centers are still there and the difference between Brown, Wilkerson, Mrzuckowski, Coston, and Rob Hunt doesn't seem great enough to pick C in 4th instead of 5 or 6.Brandon Jacobs is still my pick for round 4 because he would be the 3rd and short RB, the backup FB, and depending on how he can adjust to TE, an all-downs starting TE. The Bengals worked him out at TE so their judgment on him as a potential TE should be sound. Quote
TJJackson Posted April 24, 2005 Report Posted April 24, 2005 Shazor, Browner, and Hawthorne are just too slow. Marvin values speed.C Brown is strong but lacks smarts, need smart player at C position. In no particular order, except for Wilkerson as top need1) C Ben Wilkerson - should have gone in the third. First round talent, health status is ONLY minus, at position of great need2) S James Butler - top available safety w/ sub 4.5 speed3) S Gerald Sensabaugh - second best available safety w/ sub 4.5 speed4) OG Elton Brown - a earlier second rounder on most boards5) S Donte Nicholson - great talent, but mre of a pure SS, not as well suited to the interchangeable safety system here.6) LB Robert McCune - second round talent, great speed7) LB Adam Seward - also second round talent, slightly less speed than McCune but immensely strong8) DE Jovan Haye - read about him at http://www.nfldraftcountdown.com/playerpro.../jovanhaye.html and tell me he's not a Marvin guy :-)I too really like Brandon Jacobs, but think he'll be there in 5, and C is just a bigger need. kurgan74 Posted April 24, 2005 Report Posted April 24, 2005 Guys who I would like to see the Bengals take in Round 4:1. Anttaj Hathorne DT--Big run stuffer2. Antonio Perkins CB--solid CB and excellent return man3. Dionte Nicholson SS--Talented SS from Oklahoma4. Jason Brown- solid center from North Carolina5. Trent Cole--Has the athletic ability to play OLB or even SS6. CJ Mosely-solid DT from Mizzou7. Michael Boley--LB/tweener from Southern Miss8. Simon Frazier--6'6 290 played DE at OSU but will play DT in the pros9. Bill Swancutt--fierce pass rusher from Oregon State10. Ernest Shazor--big hitter at SS11. Ben Wilkerson--Solid center from LSU12. Travis Daniels--One of the better CBs in the SEC from LSU Quote
ShulaSteakhouse Posted April 24, 2005 Report Posted April 24, 2005 Frasier and Cole - wish there was a spot for them. No Munoz yet? Quote
HairOnFire Posted April 24, 2005 Report Posted April 24, 2005 7. Darryl Blackstock - might not be a need, but he's a very good pass rusher. Pretty sure he was a late pick, but my minds turned to fuzz so I can't say who got him. In fact, I may be halucinating. How about Chris Canty? I can't remember his name being called. He's a little dinged right now but if he's sound he'd be on my short list. Quote
wookie Posted April 24, 2005 Report Posted April 24, 2005 I'm going to agree that it would be nice to see the Begals pick up a C with their next pick. I like Brown, but I don't know if I see enough of a difference between him and Wilkerson to care much either way.A player that I've had my eye on, and will probably cath some heat for but I like the guy and I'm not not going to go all out like the Shazor-backers, is someone that Kiper has also been talking a lot about and its Jerome Mathis WR - Hampton.Mathis absolutely tore up the field in an all-star game earlier this year, then went on to post a 4.23 40 time at the combine. The knock on him is his size 6-0 183, and that he tends to drop easy catches...but Braylon Edwards was said to drop a few now and then and he went #3 overall.I know the Bengals are deep at WR, and they need help at Center and SS but Mathis could come in and contribute immeadiatly in a lot of different ways. He is a very good return man, so good that he reminded me of Dante Hall in KC.I think he would be a good fit, and make Warrick expendable, if he isn't already. I can't believe the guy is still on the board...maybe he'll still be around after the Bengals get a C. Quote

Whur CHad At? Posted April 24, 2005 Report Posted April 24, 2005 If no one take Shazor, we will take him he will be the best player available. He is being compared to Brian Dawkins so I think that is worth the taking. Wilkerson could drop to the 5th round, but look out for Rob Hunt from North Dakota State. He is prob. the best underrated center out there. Quote
Bobcat Bengal Posted April 24, 2005 Report Posted April 24, 2005 I'm going with my boy JDitty and pick up Jamal Brimmer. After that, I'd like to see Chris McKenzie, Ben Wilkerson and whoever.(And these aren't in order) Quote
ArmyBengal Posted April 24, 2005 Report Posted April 24, 2005 We still need to address the Center position and Safety. I'm thinking Wilkerson and then trading back up into the 4th to pick up (name your safety) any of them I'd be happy with... Shazor, Brimmer, Butler, so on and so on...WHODEY !!! Quote
WhoDey93285 Posted April 24, 2005 Report Posted April 24, 2005 We're on the clock, I hope we get Shazor!EDIT: Three rounds in a row that ESPN has gone to a commercial while we're on the clock! Anyone know who we got? Quote
