GROIIIDayton
why would we have went out and got a DT in free agency if we were switching to the 3-4. I don't think we are switching I just think we will play both. We will be able to switch at any time. Think about how hard that will to defend. We are going to be so good!!!!! ShulaSteakhouse
Hopefully the Bengals clear this up some soon.It will be fun to watch Geathers, Madieu, Ratliff, Pollack, Johnson and Thurman turn the defense around here hopefully.Ugh the Ravens got Cody. BeyondTheJungle
I think Cody was still around b/c of the depression red flag.I'm loving our draft. But I don't think we'll be officially switching to a 3-4. Instead we'll run a base 4-3 with an option to move into a 3-4 to throw off the offense.I imagine ML will tell us some of his plans when he has his 2nd round press conference.WHO-DEY!It's a great day to be a Bengals fan! membengal
Whatever else happens, we all need to chill on the scheme concerns. Worst case scenario, we have an extra backer or two pushing for playing time. That is completely ML's method of madness. I tend to agree that Johnson's eventual home will be Simmons' spot. For now, though, if Landon stays in the middle with Thurman pushing him, there is NOTHING wrong with that. Depth and depth and depth and competition and competition and competition. That's how ML has been building this team. This draft is absolutely what the doctor ordered. Can't wait to hear from the new blood.
DontPushMe
this is a good pick, but what does it mean for pollack? is he DE now? if hes still LB, who is the odd man out? i think it would definitly mean simmons is gone when his contract expires, but imo if pollack is indeed LB, this was a bad pickIt sound's like your whiskey (with LSD mickey) glass is half-empty3-4, man. we will not switch to a 3-4, get that through your heads

So far this new members reasoning makes the most sense! And YES we ARE going to be equally good on both Offense and Defense!! :player: Who'd a thunk it!! :player:

He's a very productive straight line player but he's as lean a DE as you'll ever find. Probably too thin. Oh, and put me in the camp that thinks the 3-4 talk is just plain goofy. Whur CHad At?
Just by how we drafted, it looks like the 3-4 will be our style of defense. Why would they draft Pollack who will play outside, but also draft Odell who will play inside?

Why would they draft Pollack who will play outside, but also draft Odell who will play inside? Well, per my post above, because you cannot ever have too much depth at a position like LB, ML likes competition, and, if Thurman was at the top of their board, then that was their pick. Imagine, marvin is going to do what he said (switch back and forth). You're right that it would be a tricky defensive switch to handle, especially if we can switch schemes without switching personnel.
Indycat
I think we're going to see a lot of 4 - 4 against Ravens and Steelers.
alleycat
Merril Hodge just said Cincy has had one of the three best drafts in the league so far. Said Pollack could be the steal of the draft. And ML is a genius (as if we didn't know).
andybren
Hodge also mentioned that he'd expect us to play 3-4 on third down.
BeyondTheJungle
I think one of the most important things is that both of these guys are good tacklers. Our tackling killed us against so many teams last year. It will be so much less nerve-racking to watch games where we don't miss tackles! DawgNeil
I am a senior at UGA and thought I would drop bye to get after a few things.Pollack is a freakin stud. You all will enjoy him beyond belief. His stats don't give him justice. He was everywhere all the time the last 3 years.Odell is a different story though....his character issues are quite a lot....his team violations dealt with him hitting his girlfriend...not sure if that was ever publicly released but it was common knowledge around here...his g/f playes for the UGA basketball team. He also has gotten into several scuffles downtown in Athens.Pollack will make you proud. Thurman.....I would watch out for him off-the-field
WhoDey93285
Thank you for the insight. I am looking forward to watching Pollack play. I think Marvin will be able to keep Thurman in check, or his azz will not be playing one down.
DawgNeil
He isn't the smartest tool in the shed eitherBUTHe makes up for it with his hitting abilities....which are awesome most of the time.
JPW
Pollack will make you proud. Thurman.....I would watch out for him off-the-fieldWell he did go through a terrible time in his life.Maybe ML can help him out, I am sure he will be a good influence on the young man. andybren
The off-field stuff concerns me, but I'm sure Marvin looked hard at Thurman before he made the choice. And putting Thurman in a position where'd he have to earn his job -- I'm guessing for the first time in years -- will probably help keep in in line. HairOnFire
He isn't the smartest tool in the shed either Don't you mean the sharpest tool in the shed? Sorry, just kidding. I actually appreciate the insight into the bad news about Thurman since I was never able to find out what the character issues related to. "that ain't no way to treat a lady...." Whur CHad At?
"I'm a run-stuffer," said Thurman with a laugh, and he says he's also ready to steal "the spotlitght from Chad Johnson. I don't know him, but I know him from TV."Haha funny quote from Odell.
WhoDey93285
He also said in that interview that all of that off the field stuff is behind him. Hope that's true.
