Section 310
Profootballtalk.com said that Shazor ran a 4.7 atthe U of M pro-day. That means both he andThomas Davis lack the high end speed teamswant to see in a protype SS.What now? Does this mean we go LB or DT with#17? Does the team roll the dice and hope to graba SS in the 3rd or 4th round? Does TE move upon the priority list?

Oh well, like I have said before, there are many talented Safeties in this draft and I'm sure ML and his coaches will get "their" man. As far as "what now", I can't help but wonder how much they might be looking WR at #17 if they don't trade down or here's another idea... Since there is no definitive lower down, maybe move up... Just thinking here since we all seemed convinced of trading down... Hmmmm I feel a new thread coming on...WHODEY !!!
Section 310
Army Bengal, are you active, reserves, vet?I just looked at OurLads.com and their draft was updated yesterday. It has the Bengals takingBrodney Pool, the safety from Oklahoma. He isfast (4.44) but only 207lbs.

Section 310
I was active for a couple of years right out of high school. I did mybasic/AIT at Ft. Knox and was stationed in Germany...part of 1st Armor Division. I don't miss it...I remember getting up at 3:00 AM to watch MNF...back then the Bengalswere pretty good, so they always seem to be on at least once or twicea year. TJJackson
I just looked at OurLads.com and their draft was updated yesterday. It has the Bengals takingBrodney Pool, the safety from Oklahoma. He is fast (4.44) but only 207lbs.He actually has had his workout at the Oklahoma Pro Day, and wasn't quite so fast as you thinkhttp://www.nfl.com/draft/analysis/individual_workouts#oklaThat said, he's still fast enough to play this spot. Also, ML has already said he wants his safeties interchangeable....this means from a draft perspective that he doesn't really want a true SS, he wants a FS type who can cover and tackle. So I think he's looking at Bullocks and Pool in day 1, if I had to make a guess. I prefer Bullocks on the basis of character, but Pool might be ok toohttp://www.nfldraftcountdown.com/playerpro...shbullocks.htmlhttp://www.nfldraftcountdown.com/playerpro...rodneypool.html(mind you, the listed speeds on these links are not fully up to date)Another possibility is Georgia Tech's James Butler, who had a solidly good 40 at his pro day as well: http://www.nfl.com/draft/analysis/individual_workouts#gatech
Section 310
The Brodney character seems a bit smallish to me. We needa guy who will be able to step up and punch Jamal Lewisright in the mouth. Can Pool do that for us?
TJJackson
How big do you think Madieu is?http://www.bengals.com/team/players.asp?player_id=
Section 310
Yeah, 193 lbs., that's why we are looking for a strongsafety.
TJJackson
I think you're missing my point.Marvin Lewis doesn't want a strong safety. He wants a safety - one that can play either SS or FS interhangeably. He's stated this several times. At 193 lbs, Madieu was able to do both, and that's what ML will want the new guy to do as well.Ergo, a 200-210 pound guy, as long as he can cover and tackle, should be fine. schweinhart
Another possibility is Georgia Tech's James Butler, who had a solidly good 40 at his pro day as well: http://www.nfl.com/draft/analysis/individual_workouts#gatech James must have got a new pair of shoes since the combine. 4.49 40 and his vertical goes from 40-inch to 44. The ceiling is high for this guy.

Well damn. I kinda had a feeling that that was going to happen.I would still like to have him, but I always maintained that I would be happy with wherever Marvin goes at SS. Davis, Shazor, Brimmer, Bullocks, Nicholson, Butler...there are too many good ones to be upset with the choice. I'm still on the train, but I can see why others wouldn't be at this point. BengalNation1281
Dizzamn...I can't argue with a sub-4.5 40.Davis now looks like a much more appealing option at 17 than he already did. Hmmm....
TJJackson
I look at it as a good thing even if we don't get him, as it probably pushes him into the top 17 and therefore pushes down the group, giving us a better chance to pick up someone we want.I stilll think Marvin would make him a LB is we drafted him..... schweinhart
Davis would add a lot of versatility to the D like Madieu did last year. Davis can plug holes at SS and proly all 3 LB positions if needed. He's already moved back and forth between S and LB at UGA and that's better proof of what he can do than projecting that a SS can go LB or vice versa.
