TJJackson
I think that with this signing plus the emergence of Langston Moore into a solidly good player plus the need to allow Askew to develop puts DT on the back burner as far as the draft goes. The targeted positions for first day picks then should be, and in no particular order but rather best value at the spot at the time: S (Yeah, ML likes em interchangeable), DE, TE, and C. If a top notch WR like Terrance Murphy were to be available at pick 3, as long as the need for a C has already been met, I could see them taking a WR here. chrishcovga
I personally am glad that we've added some help to our front seven, but Robinson is nothing to glee' about. As long as he's better than a healthy Tony Williams then I'm all for it ! As for who Cincy' wants or will take in the first round this year, I honestly don't have a clue. I'm gonna have to lean towards a DE or a LB though with us grabbing a Safety or a WR in round 2. And a C or a DT in round 3. Considering the two highest contracts and most likely cap casualties being Kevin Hardy OLB, and Peter Warrick WR, I wouldn't be at all surprised if our draft went something like this..1. Mark Clayton2. Kevin Burnett3. James Butler4. Ben Wilkerson5. Alfred Fincher6. Victor Sesay7. Ryan Fitzpatrick - - Serious guesses of the top of my head though. Whur CHad At?
Big Ben Wilkerson is a likely 2nd rounder early 3rd, he won't slide all the way down the 4th unless he gets caught up in what dennis weathersby got caught up in.
Bobcat Bengal
Good pickup, we added a solid run stopper, which was one of our priorities in the off season. At least he'll be starting.
TJJackson
Wilkerson could drop to 4 because of his health. Could.Do you research anything, WCA?
Steel Legends
Good siging, guys! You needed to get tougher up the middle and he's an improvement!
BengalszoneBilly
Good siging, guys! You needed to get tougher up the middle and he's an improvement! I'd say a great improvement! He's possibly the "latch" to the "swinging gate" defense we had against the run last season.Good to see you're still around Steely!
cincy9275
robinson and thorton play about on the same level. there stats are very similar. thorton get to the qb a little better. so we now have 2, 300 pounders in the middle with expirence you got to like that. this gives marvin the freedom to pick what he deems to be the best player in the draft with our pick. can't wait untill the draft
Whur CHad At?
Yea i research a lot TJ, I don't know what you are thinking but wilkerson is 2nd round , early 3rd.
BengalszoneBilly
robinson and thorton play about on the same level. I couldn't disagree more. You must have missed his work in completely shutting off the run when Cincy played Miami last season. Holding the Bengals to 94 yards on 29 attempts ain't exactly horsefeed. their stats are very similar. Only due to Robinson playing with other D-lineman who were equal or better at stopping the run. HoosierCat
their stats are very similar. Only due to Robinson playing with other D-lineman who were equal or better at stopping the run. Which bodes well for Thornton next season, I might add. Thornton hasn't really performed up to the level of his paycheck in his time as a Bengal, but I remain convinced that's because he hasn't been paired with a big man who can soak up blockers and let him go after the QB. OldSchooler, I remember reading your posts on Thortons website last season... Good stuff! One of my favorite posters! My name over there was 'GJH' in case you remember, but you probably won't My question on this thread is why are there arguments about if it's "good job Marvin" or "Good job Uncle Mike"? Where's Katie in this mix? I honestly think that before Marvin got hired, it was Katie that went to Daddie and told him what he needed to do. Once her and Troy started to get into Mike ear, that's when Marvin came about and had much more power than any other coach. This signing might have been worked out by Marvin, or Mike, but I think the changing attitude in the Front Office is because of Katie. Well something has definitely changed for the better in relation to the front office's practices in the past few years. I don't know who's ultimately responsible, but I'm glad it finally happened. I am sure when all of the little folks and some of the corporate ticket holders threatened to bail out, the organization realized that major changes were necessary. jjakq27
http://news.enquirer.com/apps/pbcs.dll/art...150382/1066/SPTTuesday, March 15, 2005 New addition Robinson given starting tackle job By Mark CurnutteEnquirer staff writerBryan Robinson signed his three-year contract Monday with the Bengals, and the team plans to line him up as the starting right defensive tackle next to John Thornton."They'd like me to play inside," Robinson said Monday. "I played end for five years. Wherever there is a need for me, I will play."Robinson, an eight-year veteran, received a $1.7 million signing bonus on the $6 million deal.He is a known run-stopper who might be able to help the Bengals improve their 26th-ranked run defense (128.9 yards a game)."We're excited to bring Bryan into our mix in the defensive line," Bengals coach Marvin Lewis said. "He has been a productive starting player in the NFL for a number of seasons. He's a solid professional who is going to help us improve our team."Robinson and Lewis agree in the approach and had a positive meeting over dinner when the player visited Cincinnati earlier this month."On these trips, you don't know what to expect," Robinson said. "But Coach Lewis was straight-up, genuine."They wanted to go after a guy who could help them to win. I want to help solidify this thing so we can move forward to the playoffs."Robinson, who spent the 2004 season with the Dolphins, played against the Bengals in Week 2 at Paul Brown Stadium."I was impressed by just how hard they played," he said. "You could tell they had bought into what Coach Lewis was doing. It is a team that is definitely on the rise."Robinson should fit into a rotation at defensive tackle that includes Thornton, Langston Moore and Duane Clemons.Second-year pro Matthias Askew also is expected to challenge for playing time in place of unrestricted free agent Tony Williams, who is unlikely to return to the Bengals. Bobcat Bengal
Coach Lewis ALWAYS seems to set himself up to get the BPA in the draft. His first year here, everything just fell into place. But now, its like reaching into a grab bag to see who they get. HoTbOy
I also believe that Katie and Troy told Mikie that things needed to change and man am I one happy Bengals fan. Where I live is Bills country and man was I sick when Takeo and the Bills beat us, can't wait for rematch with a healthy Palmer but that's another story...Robinson is saying just what every diehard Bengals fan wanted to hear about stopping the run. I like the rest of you can't wait to see who get drafted at 17...
