Well guys, looks like all of our hopes for either of the Sharpers are fading away

from bengals.com

The agent for Texans linebacker Jamie Sharper says his client would like to be re-united with Lewis, but they won’t give up a draft pick and would prefer to wait until he’s a free agent. His brother, Packers safety Darren Sharper, looks to be commanding a high dollar figure that doesn’t fit the cap, and since they haven’t contacted his agent, it might be that they concluded he’s more of a free safety than the strong they seek.

A middle round pick? why wouldn't you give it up for sharper. We have had only one productive 4th round pick in the ML era, Robert Geathers. Andrews, is worthless, and Weathersby is done. We can afford to give away a draft pick. When will Marvin(and the Blackburns) realize you can't win with all ROOKIES!!He keeps talking about his 3 year plan, well you can kiss it away if you dont take a chance. They say they want to wait till he is a free agent, but the funny thing is he prob. will be traded to Seattle or the Texans will keep him. The List of off-season dissapointments keep building....

There is something fishy about this Rudi wanting long term.. it is reminding of CD. And i hope he won't turn into CD. But i think he will...

Andrews is worthless? I think not. I think he'll be a VERY good T in the future.

The dude didnt play football until his senior year dog, and he got drafted off that.

He used to the the hammer toss, and was a possible Olympic representative.

Oh yeah, we also have Jeremi Johnson, who was a fourth round pick (and is EXACTLY the same age as I am).

Andrews doesnt even know whats going on.  If he was supposed to be so good they should of sent him to Europe! At least to get expierence! He should be working his tail off this off season, but now he isn't.

Andrews wasn't sent to Europe, per Hobson, because they wanted to work with him here, keep his lessons consistent, and not have him go learn who-knows-what from some NFLE position coach. He played last year sparingly as a blocking TE, same role Levi played in his first year.. Andrews is far from worthless. He was a project from the get go, and one that was projected to go in the fourth round simply due to his athleticism and huge potential. Far to early to toss him onto the scrap heap.

Edit: http://www.bengals.com/press/hobsononline....age=0&ho_id=186

The four Bengals going to NFL Europe are under contract, so they can’t be picked up by another team. But they can get hurt, which is why the Bengals have always been reluctant to send guys. Now, every team has to send at least three, but the Bengals always seem to get bit. The last time was three years ago when former defensive tackle Mario Monds needed reconstructive knee surgery. Even after that, former linebackers Dwayne Levels and Tito Rodriguez came back from their stints banged up.

It seems that Andrews, their 360-pound prize at offensive tackle that they took in the fourth round in the last draft, isn’t going to NFL Europe for a variety of reasons. They are very high on this kid as an athlete, but he’s still quite raw (remember, just 70 or so snaps in college) and they want to teach him football here in the context of this system and need to do it in the May and June camps. Plus, their two starting tackles are both still trying to bounce back from arthroscopic knee surgeries and you can’t afford to get Andrews hurt, too. You also need him here for the spring camps to take the snaps that Willie Anderson and Levi Jones won’t get, because you figure they’ll get time off the knees to get ready for training camp.

Linebacking unit needs mean man in the middle

By MICKEY HERSKOWITZ

Copyright 2005 Houston Chronicle

Texans have three sets of linebackers — one coming, one going,

one staying.

For perhaps the first time in their brief existence, the Texans find themselves unable to avoid a display of public unpleasantness. They are obliged to shed a pair of linebackers, Jamie Sharper and Jay Foreman, who have been solid performers and decent citizens.

But having moved from baby steps to almost the middle of the pack, the Texans want to upgrade. They are in the market for faster and younger talent, the kind that offers an important promise — more bang for the buck.

There is no painless way to create the space to do this, although you suspect the decision hurts Sharper and Foreman more than it does the Texans. Jamie is going on 31, heading into his ninth season. He has led the team in tackles twice, and if the defense seemed to be marginally sharper last year, he helped improve that image.

Jay — the son of Chuck Foreman, a feared running back with the Vikings — is in his prime at 29, with six seasons behind him. He ranked second in tackles last year, even though he missed five games with a damaged ankle.

The club gave Sharper and Foreman permission to negotiate their own trades, but this is like your employer allowing you to seek another job. It is not exactly a seller's market out there. Most teams have salary-cap problems, and the Texans wouldn't be taking this action if they didn't need to free up dollars.

Even so, their starting lineup remains more stable than most. In contrast, the Titans had what amounted to an exodus, releasing Derrick Mason, Kevin Carter and Samari Rolle, after waving a tearful goodbye to Jevon Kearse a year ago.

The Texans haven't been in business long enough to have their fans form strong emotional attachments to the players.

But each year, a rookie or two has endeared himself to the crowd: David Carr, Domanick Davis, Andre Johnson, Jason Babin.

A first-round pick out of Western Michigan, Babin did nothing to disappoint the team in his rookie year. He's quick and delivers a hard lick.

Kailee Wong can play inside or out, and he grades high for consistency. With the addition of Morlon Greenwood, there appears to be just one spot open among the linebackers.

Does anyone have an update on the sharper situation????!

I just mentioned this in another thread, but it's worth repeating. The Texan trade for Pace is almost a done deal. Pace has agreed to a new long term contract, but the teams are still working on trade compensation. The Rams want the two 1st rounders that comewith the tag, the Texans want to soften the hit. No veteran Texan players are said to be involved. So unless things change, we're good. B)

From Pasquerelli on ESPN.COM

Those teams (like Cincinnati) waiting for the Houston Texans to simply release veteran linebacker Jamie Sharper might turn blue holding their breath. Yeah, Texans officials have granted Sharper permission to seek possible trade scenarios. No, the Texans won't just give Sharper away. In fact, they might hang on to the eight-year veteran until after the draft, if necessary, because they want something in return for him. Sharper is still a productive, if somewhat limited, defender. He still makes plays against the run and led the Texans in tackles -- his 177 stops were 75 more than the Houston runner-up -- in 2004. Some team would be wise to surrender a middle-round draft choice now for Sharper so that he could participate in minicamps.
