skyline Posted March 10, 2005 Report Posted March 10, 2005 There's an article on bengals.com this morning about how Sharper is interested in playing for Marvin again.Another one of those, too good to actually happen stories, but it's the first new thing I've seen on bengals.com in a few days, so I got excited Quote
Kirkendall Posted March 10, 2005 Report Posted March 10, 2005 You never know man, it could happen. Quote
Scottishbengal Posted March 10, 2005 Report Posted March 10, 2005 just a quick question (and apologies for the ignorance) but is it mandatory to have a full squad or could a team have fewer players on the roster? Just thought this might be an option to open up salary-cap space by reducing the number of players (when was the last time a 3rd quarterback was used in anger?) Quote
bengalboomer7 Posted March 10, 2005 Report Posted March 10, 2005 Hobson has a piece talking about how he wants to play for marvin again. It looks like he won't be traded so now he is lobbying the Teaxans to be released. He'd be perfect for Hardy's strongside position, but he's already hit the big 30 so I wouldn't want him for more thatn 3-4 years, tops! Quote
HoosierCat Posted March 10, 2005 Report Posted March 10, 2005 Sharper has also said he'd be willing to redo his deal in Texas to stay, so who knows what will happen. But from the bengals.com piece it doesn't appear a trade is in the works, and if he's let go competition for his services will doubtless drive his price above that of a Mickey D's value meal, so the Bengals will be out of the running. Section 310 Posted March 10, 2005 Report Posted March 10, 2005 Didn't he play on the inside of a 3-4 defensein Texas? If so, I wonder where he would beused here. Does he take Hardy's slot on theoutside, or bump Webster in the middle.Personally, I bet you would see Landon Johnsonand Brian Simmons on the outside, with Sharper in the middle. Not too bad, but we need a stud on the left sideof the defense to plug the holes left for JamalLewis, Suggs and the Pittsburgh duo. Quote
skyline Posted March 10, 2005 Author Report Posted March 10, 2005 The article said they see him playing on the outside, although he could move to the inside if needed. Quote
Marvin's Maniax Posted March 10, 2005 Report Posted March 10, 2005 The set of linebackers Simmons, Sharper, Webster, Johnson, Abdullah, and Miller would be a solid unit. Will it happen who knows? Quote
TJJackson Posted March 10, 2005 Report Posted March 10, 2005 Weird thing is....Sharper's agent has permission to work out a trade, but not to "talk".How can you work out a trade if you can't talk?I'm sure one of you more experienced football folks understands the difference or what the agent really meant....so bring me up to speed......:-) Quote
turningpoint Posted March 10, 2005 Report Posted March 10, 2005 I'd like to see us draft a LB in the 2nd round to play one of the outside spots.IDK i think that might acutally be our 1st round pick a LB. Quote
HoosierCat Posted March 10, 2005 Report Posted March 10, 2005 This from Clayton over at espn...March 9, 2005Sharper drawing interestThere seems to be trade interest in Texans inside linebacker Jamie Sharper. The Bengals and Seahawks are among the teams most interested. It will cost a middle round choice -- possibly a fourth -- to get Sharper, who is being replaced by Morlon Greenwood.Shoot, I'd trade the fourth for him in a heartbeat...pick up the darn phone, Mikey! Quote
HairOnFire Posted March 10, 2005 Report Posted March 10, 2005 Sharper hasn't named the team, but in the Houston Chronical he's on record talking about a trade proposal that has fallen apart. The article goes on to speculate that despite Sharpers appeal to be released immediately...if the trade proposal can't be revived the Texans will keep Sharper until after the draft. Quote
Kirkendall Posted March 10, 2005 Report Posted March 10, 2005 I'd like to see us draft a LB in the 2nd round to play one of the outside spots. We did last year with Landon Johnson. Quote
kingwilly Posted March 10, 2005 Report Posted March 10, 2005 Sharper for a middle rounder is a no brainer. That means we can dump Hardy. We've already dumped Beckett, with Darren Sharper coming on the market, we could have the Sharper brothers anchoring our D. Dare I say our defense would be a bit "sharper" with those two on the field?Sorry...terrible pun. Quote
HoosierCat Posted March 10, 2005 Report Posted March 10, 2005 (edited) Sharper hasn't named the team, but in the Houston Chronical he's on record talking about a trade proposal that has fallen apart. The article goes on to speculate that despite Sharpers appeal to be released immediately...if the trade proposal can't be revived the Texans will keep Sharper until after the draft.Do you have a link? I didn't see anything on the Chronicle's site and there's no mention of a trade that fell apart over at houstonprofootball.com, which is probably the busiest Texans site around... Edit: Aha! Is this the story you meant? http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/ssistory.mpl/s.../fb/nfl/3077869I see the bit about holding onto them until after the draft but no mention of any specific deal that fell apart, just a general comment that they're trying to work out a trade but it doesn't look like that will happen. Whur CHad At? Posted March 10, 2005 Report Posted March 10, 2005 Sharpers a FA at the end of next year right? If he is I think we should pass on him. We have Willie, Levi, and possibly him to re-sign. But that just came to me. So thats just what I think. I would love to have him Quote
bengalboomer7 Posted March 10, 2005 Report Posted March 10, 2005 Any kind of trade I hope would involve some restructuring anyways Quote

That's the one. And you're right, after reading the article again the wording related to "trying to work out a trade"...doesn't seem nearly as specific as the first time I viewed it. Quote
bengalboomer7 Posted March 10, 2005 Report Posted March 10, 2005 Well, I gotta make my 1000 post worth something. As long as hes willing to work a deal this should be feasible. Sing him to a three year deal that has some incentives in it, cut Hardy, restructure Willie and Kit(again, backups should not be making millions). Then you can draft whatever you want in the first and Shazor in the second if he's there. Quote

jbengals1 Posted March 11, 2005 Report Posted March 11, 2005 "Darren Sharper, released Thursday" Quote
bengalboomer7 Posted March 11, 2005 Report Posted March 11, 2005 Looks like the Seahawks are also going after Jamie Sharper. Quote
Whur CHad At? Posted March 11, 2005 Report Posted March 11, 2005 Looks like Sharper will go the the Hawks. We won't make any effort at him prob. Quote
