just a quick question (and apologies for the ignorance) but is it mandatory to have a full squad or could a team have fewer players on the roster?

Just thought this might be an option to open up salary-cap space by reducing the number of players (when was the last time a 3rd quarterback was used in anger?)

Hobson has a piece talking about how he wants to play for marvin again. It looks like he won't be traded so now he is lobbying the Teaxans to be released. He'd be perfect for Hardy's strongside position, but he's already hit the big 30 so I wouldn't want him for more thatn 3-4 years, tops!

Sharper has also said he'd be willing to redo his deal in Texas to stay, so who knows what will happen. But from the bengals.com piece it doesn't appear a trade is in the works, and if he's let go competition for his services will doubtless drive his price above that of a Mickey D's value meal, so the Bengals will be out of the running. <_<

Didn't he play on the inside of a 3-4 defense

in Texas? If so, I wonder where he would be

used here. Does he take Hardy's slot on the

outside, or bump Webster in the middle.

Personally, I bet you would see Landon Johnson

and Brian Simmons on the outside, with

Sharper in the middle.

Not too bad, but we need a stud on the left side

of the defense to plug the holes left for Jamal

Lewis, Suggs and the Pittsburgh duo.

Sharper drawing interest

There seems to be trade interest in Texans inside linebacker Jamie Sharper. The Bengals and Seahawks are among the teams most interested. It will cost a middle round choice -- possibly a fourth -- to get Sharper, who is being replaced by Morlon Greenwood.

Shoot, I'd trade the fourth for him in a heartbeat...pick up the darn phone, Mikey!

Sharper hasn't named the team, but in the Houston Chronical he's on record talking about a trade proposal that has fallen apart. The article goes on to speculate that despite Sharpers appeal to be released immediately...if the trade proposal can't be revived the Texans will keep Sharper until after the draft.

Sharper for a middle rounder is a no brainer. That means we can dump Hardy. We've already dumped Beckett, with Darren Sharper coming on the market, we could have the Sharper brothers anchoring our D. Dare I say our defense would be a bit "sharper" with those two on the field?

Sorry...terrible pun.

Do you have a link? I didn't see anything on the Chronicle's site and there's no mention of a trade that fell apart over at houstonprofootball.com, which is probably the busiest Texans site around...

Edit: Aha! Is this the story you meant? http://www.chron.com/cs/CDA/ssistory.mpl/s.../fb/nfl/3077869

I see the bit about holding onto them until after the draft but no mention of any specific deal that fell apart, just a general comment that they're trying to work out a trade but it doesn't look like that will happen.

That's the one. And you're right, after reading the article again the wording related to "trying to work out a trade"...doesn't seem nearly as specific as the first time I viewed it.

Well, I gotta make my 1000 post worth something.

As long as hes willing to work a deal this should be feasible. Sing him to a three year deal that has some incentives in it, cut Hardy, restructure Willie and Kit(again, backups should not be making millions). Then you can draft whatever you want in the first and Shazor in the second if he's there.

Cool. Wasn't trying to bust on you or anything, just thought you may have found something I missed...
