stuck
Yep. I hope Perry is ok. We were all surprised about the pick, but his college performance was impressive. I wouldn't be surprised if the team traded down in rnd 1 again, either. After last years draft, I totally expect to be surprised. Shocked. Stunned. Disappointed. Any or all of those terms. I'm originally from Buffalo - been here since 1990, so I follow both clubs. For shocked, surprised, disappointed etc., see the Bill's '03 pick of Willis McGahee and the '04 trade of this year's #1 and last year's #2 and #5 to Dallas for JP Losman. That's the thing about the draft. There's enough shock, surprise, and especially disappointment to go around for everybody! The last draft I felt good about was when theBengals took Carson Palmer at #1. We needed a QB. We drafted a QB. The team has obviously benefitted from such simple logic.Last year we needed a defensive lineman. We traded down and then drafted a running back. One look at where the Bengals ended up ranked in defending the run, and you can do the math on that one for yourself.IMO, this practice of drafting the "Best Player Available" should only be used if that player happens to play the position you most need help at, or possibly to be used as some sort of trade bait/leverage with another organization later in the day! stuck
I'm a bit of a fan of the "Draft to Your Strength" school of thought. That is, if you have a good line, lb corps, etc., look to keep that strong so you remove any question marks in those areas for the coming season - something to rely upon. I'm not sure if that is a good explanation.I see nothing wrong with making a reach for a QB, but to me decent wr's and rb's are generally available through lower drafting, mid-level FA's, etc.

A good draft or two might have helped there. I personally see no sense in this policy either, but then again, I'm sure lots of folks don't see my view as making much sense either. Oh well! I see nothing wrong with making a reach for a QB, but to me decent wr's and rb's are generally available through lower drafting, mid-level FA's, etc.So you're saying you're okay with the way our defense got run over the last two years, and if it happens again in 2005 because we didn't adddress it properly in the offseason, no biggie because we got another good QB!?! Okay...if you say so! To each his own bro! C'mon draft day! Let's get this agony over with!
rickscott
I trust in Marvin but I really thought Perry was a mistake. A mistake to take a RB and a mistake to take that RB. In todays college ball, if it takes you until your senior season to win the starting nod, then you ain't that special. As a junior, I think Askew the FB was moved to RB because Perry couldn't win the job. I agree with another poster, never take a RB in Rd 1. With a good O-line, RBs will succeed. Look where Rudi is from in the draft. I just hope Perry is ready for the season.
