Chucktkd
Marvin said that he's on the trading blocks. Now what happens if TJ or Chad gets hurt? Then we're really screwed.
membengal
Marvin said that he's on the trading blocks. Now what happens if TJ or Chad gets hurt? Then we're really screwed. Where and when did ML say this? Have a link?If so, then I would assume that any trade would happen pre-draft and they would be back in the market for a WR at some point on the first day.If he really was on the trade market (and I am a little suspicious without more info), what in the world could his value be? At best no more than a 5th or 6th round pick, no? What team would give more than that given his injury history, particularly last season? jamesbrooks21
I saw it. They said on NFL Network that with the signing of Housh the Bengals will look to trade Peter Warrick. I don't remember the guys name Eisen was talking to but he said that "they will look to trade him over the summer."
boomer77
two words: no way. if he's healthy -- a huge IF -- the bengals would be fools to trade him because his cap number isn't that huge of a hit this year. if he's hurt -- a distinct possiblity -- no team on god's green earth would trade for the guy. this is just silly, nothing-better-to-do-with-my-time talk. BengalsOwn
His cap hit is 3.6 million this year. That's quite a hit.And Marvin didn't say anything about trading Warrick, guys on a TV show have talked about it.
boomer77
my bad on the cap hit if that 3.6 mil figure is right. (i thought it was about half that.) but man, imagine chad, a healthy p-dup, tj as a three, and kw as a four. i just can't envision a deeper corps of wideouts in the nfl than what we've got. i'm sure our defense will suck next year -- hey, some things never change -- but we might be able to score about 40 points a game if everyone stays healthy. I thought P-dub's cap hit was 2.8 million this year ?? Either way, and offense with a 6 million dollar quarterback, 3 wide receivers getting paid a combined sum of 10 mil +, and a 6 million dollar running back , is supposed to put up 40 points a game. - But that's just my opinion. :player:
BengalsOwn
According to the dayton daily news, and the cincy post, it is about 3.6 a year. 2.2 salary, 200,000 workout bonus, and 1.2 million left from his signing bonus.

HoosierCat
Trading Warrick is certainly a possibility. If he comes back healthy this year and performs, you have to think he'll command at least as much as Housh, probably more, when he hits FA next year. And it's unlikely the Bengals will pony up for a third wideout. So it's let him walk next year for nothing...or trade him for something now.EDIT: Here's a blurb from profootballtalk.com. Nothing specific, but FWIW...WASHINGTON, WARRICK WANT OUT OF CINCY?With the Bengals' decision to re-sign WR T.J. Houshmandzadeh to a long-term deal, we're hearing rumblings that two of the teams' other receivers are now interested in moving on.Specifically, Peter Warrick and Kelley Washington interpret the Houshmandzadeh deal as the type of coin paid to starters. With Chad Johnson on the roster as the Bengals' No. 1 receiver, the best that Warrick and Washington will do, barring injury, in No. 3 and No. 4. Both, we hear, hope to be higher than that on a team's depth chart, so both, we hear, want out.
TippCityRick
Well, well, well. I guess the greased wheel moves fast. PW does have a bit to gripe about, but I bet it's just more posturing for a new contract either here or elsewhere. Marvin has always said the best player shall play, so PW has an opportunity to beat out TJ and get the start.KW though needs to look long and hard into a mirror. The man has done nothing so far in his career to imply that he is starters material. I do look for a break out from him in 2005 if he can get on the field. It's year three for him and that seems to be when it all comes together for a reciever.I do look for them to do something with PW before the draft if for no other reason then to free up space to sign defensive help. Section 310
Hobson was on the radio the other night talking about potential cap casualties...primarily Hardy and Warrick. He said that if the Bengalswere to cut Warrick, it would only be a $1.5 million dollar savings forthis year. Given that, I would keep him and hope he is in good health.BTW, what in the hell does Kelley Washington done to think he canget upset by money given to TJ? Thus far, he has been an underachiever. shworge
His entire salary should come off the salary cap since he is in the last year of his deal, there would be no accelerated cap hits... so we should save about 2.2 million against the cap if we cut or trade warrick. JPW
I like Mark Clayton first round. He will be better than Warrick. You know ...We have other Needs to use our 1st round Pick on other than a WR.
BengalszoneBilly
I like Mark Clayton first round. He will be better than Warrick. You know ...We have other Needs to use our 1st round Pick on other than a WR. I totally agree. Many critical areas of concern, especially defensively, that are far more crucial to the Bengals rising above this 8-8 plateau we've seem to be beached on right now.IMO people just go nuts come draft time, and totally forget the bad times watching the Bengals run defense show up for the game one week, play somewhat decently...then when the Clowns come to town, they totally run over them at will, as if they're less like the Bengals, and something more like an Arena League practice squad!! Defense wins the big games! Ask the Pats. :player:
Section 310
Re: Warrick's salary....The benefit to this year's cap was definitely not $2.2 million. It was shockingly low...in the $1.5 neighborhood. I know thatthis is the last year of his contract, so I don't understandthe number either.
WhoDeyBoiler
If you've ever played Madden on PS2, you'd know that they have this thing called cap penalties for when you cut a player. The more the player makes, the more the cap penalty is.
Kirkendall
Just to add, it seems PW and Washington want out of Cincy because of the TJ signing...http://frontier.cincinnati.com/blogs/sport...ut-of-cincy.asp
bengalboomer7
I'm not worried, won't happen. Just play out your year and shut up Warrick

Yeah but who would be worthy of that pick. DE we don't really need another with Geathers getting more experience. There are no DTs that will be worth drafting that high except for Travis Johnson who will be gone by the time the Bengals draft, but you don't know if he will be any good because he didn't participate in any pre draft workouts or games. Hopefully Travis Johnson is gone so the Bengals don't have to make that choice. Hawthorne isn't worth drafting because he isn't fast and there are guys in this draft that are faster and bigger than Hawthorne. SS only worth taking a look at this position after the first. Thomas Davis is projected as a lb and not a S in the NFL. Maybe the couldthe Bengals could take TE, but Heath Miller seems to have distanced himself from the rest of the TEs and could be a top 15 pick. What other postions should they be drafting other than drafting a WR to take Pdubs spot? They won't go after another RB that high. Lb maybe, but I think they are good with who they have now. WR seems to be the logical choice.
TippCityRick
Marvin will take the highest rated player left on the the board when we get to wherever we pick. I look for us to trade down for the exact reasons you just listed . . . there will be a good number of players who grade out sufficiently even enough at 17 to trade down a bit adding picks in the later rounds. cincy9275
i don't think p-dub is going anywhere not this year anyway. because of his injury no one will trade anything worth while to get him. teams will wait and see if he is healthy.and maybe try to sign him in 2006. if he proves he can still play. p-dub sounds a little peeved because he knows his chances of gettig a long term deal out of the bengals will probaly not happen.i'm hoping it drives him to have great year . as for kelly he should be grateful he is in the nfl. bengalboomer7
This works perfect for me, because just about the only way you can motivate a player these days is with MONEY. He'll(pw) play his arse off next year, and I still expect him to start over TJ(as long as the knee is OK). Then, regardless of how great he does(Money rules all, so I expect great things) we let him hit the free agent market and everybody wins. Warrick gets his payday, and we relieve ourselves of an underachieving(4th pick) player that has a bum knee. I know it sounds harsh, but hey, it is a business
