According to Fox 19, TJ has changed his agent

Like the title says, he changed his agent because he feels it will give him a better chance of re-signing with the Bengals. His new agent I guess is David Dunn, the same agent Carson Palmer uses.

There is really good news, the Bengals have had good relations with David Dunn over the years and if TJ really switched to Dunn in an effort to get something done with the Bengals, then it's phenomenal news.

I don't know what you mean by damage control...I suspect that TJ could make more on the open market than the Bengals can give him, but if he wants to stay with Cincy and is working to do so...well, that is as good as we can hope for. Other teams keep players that way, by the way.

Damage control? What the hell has TJ damaged?

TJ's former agent said it was unlikely he'll sign with the Bengals a few weeks back?

So you know, there was a slight uproar here about that -- and considering we're actually a portion of the base-fans, that means his PR was damaged.

OK, he fires that agent for another. THAT is damage control. You're controlling the damage and cleaning up a mess that should have never happened. Sorry to confuse everyone.

I didn't get it at first but I suppose that makes sense. He now looks like the good guy.

Personally, if I were TJ, I'd try real hard to get a deal done. This will force the Bengals to make a tough choice on Warrick and probably mean that I (TJ) will be the 2nr WR for the next few years.

Warrick is getting decent coin, and if they give decent coin to TJ, something has got to give...

I see Warrick having to re-hab and re-negotiate this spring under the pressure of a signed, confident and motivated TJ.

According to Lance McAllister the Bengals were "close" to getting a deal done with TJ before he switched agents. As a result of him switching at this time, some people with the Bengals' are unhappy with the decision because they'll have to start over from scratch basically and TJ's new agent (Dunn) would NOT get paid for any deal done with the Bengals basically.

So the likelihood of him going elsewhere is as strong as ever now - as Dunn would get paid for a new deal with another team as opposed to only a portion, if any, deal done with the Bengals.

I am not sure who to believe, but gotta think Lance knows more about it and people in the business than randomn internet posters like us.

Guess we'll see.

Now wait a second. Wasn't Lance the one that said it was "unlikely" TJ would sign with the Bengals because of a clause in the deal? Or are the two related?

Humm. I'm going to sit on the sidelines for awhile on this one, I think there's too much hear-say now.

According to Bengals.com , Cincy will enter Free Agency with about 14 million in Spending money.

6.3 of that will go to Rudi if he signs ( All the more reason to get a cheaper long term deal in place) And of Course Schaeffer ( Rudi's Agent ) said the proposal being contemplated by Cincy' management is a deal in the 5 million dollar range.

8 million left, 2.5 to tender our Free Agents, with another 3 million for the Rookie pool

Which would leave us with about 2.5 million to bring back T.J. and Rich Braham!

If T.J. comes back great, but if not, Terrence Murphy WR Texas A&M in round 3 sounds like a pretty good option.

5 million a year to Rudi = blech.

6.3 million a year to Rudi= double blech.

Give me 4-4.25, I can keep it in my stomach.

The 2.5M doesn't include any cap-casulties. Guys like Kevin Hardy, Tony Williams, John Kitna and Reggie Kelly might get let go in order to make room. A renegotiated Kitna or PDub might also be an option to get Richie and TJ signed.

Tony Williams is a free agent already.

Kitna, Hardy, and Kelly would count 4.125 against the cap in penalties (if my math is correct). Kelly and Hardy both are FA after the 2006 season and Kitna is after the 2005 season. Kitna is only getting 1 mil in 2005, so keeping him only makes sense. The others would be good to part with though...

warrick regardless of what happens with tj will be back next year.

Well, yeah, since he's under contract, Warrick will be back next year.

At what level is anyone's guess.

But even if Peter does come back at 100%, we will still be faced with the same choice after the '05 season: if Warrick plays well, he'll be demanding more than TJ is now, thanks simply to inflation. If he doesn't play well...well, let's not go there. From a strictly monetary point of view, paying TJ now is the right move. (It may be from the perspective on Warrick's knee as well.)

The other thing that hasn't been mentioned is the draft. I think most people around here want to see the Bengals spend their top pick on defense. But if TJ walks, with Warrick being an injury question and K-wash having shown little in his time as a Bengal, WR is arguably a bigger hole than any spot on the defense.

I simply have a sinking feeling that if we let TJ go, it will come back to haunt us...

Ummm Joisey, Are you Crazy ??

T.J. wasn't even part of the offense in '03 and Kitna made it look great to the point that he was able to throw 26 touchdown passes and look like a Pro Bowler.

* Now with a much better quarterback in fold, You think if we lose a " Back-up " that started for an Injured player( Warrick ) the offense is going to take a step back?

To say the least I Disagree. Warricks' injury was unfortunate true, but the real lack in our offense is not having a threat at the tight end spot, not basically at the 4th wr spot which is what T.J. would be.

I'm Glad T.J. finally came into his own, but Warrick means more to our offense than T.J. does and that was clearly shown back early in the Season when the offense struggled to stay on the field.

Kelley Washington just isn't running routes correctly, He's not presenting a target for Palmer to hit consistently. Warrick can be used in the slot,In motion on third down, Reverses ( much better athlete than T.J. ), the guys' a playmaker when he gets his hands on the ball.

No. Are you blind? If TJ leaves, we have one, count 'em, one wideout we can count on, Chad Johnson. Warrick's knee may be permanantly screwed, and whatever Peter may say the Bengals' emphatic and public comments about keeping a close eye on his rehab belie their concern over him. After that, we have what? K-wash, an alleged playmaker who hasn't gotten running routes down after two years? Cliff Russell? Walter? Broussard?

I am reliably informed by many around these here parts that, first, there is no quick fix for our run defense in free agency (so we should go ahead and back up the Brinks truck to Rudi's house) and second, that there will be no stud rookie answer at 17, either. That means that the offense, and specifically Carson Palmer, are going to be the key to making the playoffs -- and I keep asking myself, who's he going to throw to?

If Warrick can come back at his 2003 level, the Bengals might be OK, but that remains a big if. And even if he does, as I said before, all that means is that we have to pay him more next year than we'd have to pay TJ this year. Otherwise we go into 2006 with Chad, K-wash and [insert name here].

There's already been a great deal of talk about the Bengals being interested in a wideout in the first, from both the team and observers. If TJ leaves, that's where I'd place my bet.
