BengalszoneBilly
I'm lucky to persude a dog to love me, even with a porkchop around my neck. It may be true that I arrived here by falling off a turnip truck, but I didn't fall off of that truck yesterday. Tell that story walking sweetheart! I'm sure your soon-to-be-hubby loves to hear it over and over!!
TubThumper
Lessee...in a thread entitled "Most Hated Bengal," the only two people takling about Corey Dillon are TubThumper and JohnnyOneNote...err...DontPushMe.Anyone else's irony meter just go off the scale? Yeah...Pushy pegged mine. I kinda like TubHumper though. Okay!! I'm weird. I liked Bengal Bax too! At least he was ocassionally reasonable! Actually, I can understand why Bengals fans might hate person-whose-glorious-name-has-become-taboo-around-here, but for people to hate most of these other guys for merely being hapless or washed-up just goes to show why players tend to secretly hate the fans. You are useless. The horse its dead. This is about all the other people you're spewing venom over. It's not about the unmentionable one unless you want it to be. I respect every man that tried to ply his trade as a Bengal, no matter how much I've wanted them to get rid of him. I regret some of the things that some of them have done for their own sake - I'm not a fan of seeing people shoot themselves in the foot. I regret that some players turned out to be absolute garbage; I would much rather be able to congratulate them for a job well done. But, as I say that it occurs to me that there are some guys that I may not hate, but that lost a lot of my respect in one fell swoop. I don't have a lot of respect for any guy that allowed himself to be implicated in that incident with that woman in Seattle. The guilty shouldn't have done it, and the innocent should have had enough sense to immediately disassociate themselves from the scene and secure their alibi - no matter how much it had gone on before. But jocks don't live in the real world so they often don't know how it works.
HoosierCat
but for people to hate most of these other guys for merely being hapless or washed-up just goes to show why players tend to secretly hate the fans. It wouldn't surprise me if they do. In my experience, anyone who has to deal directly with the public quickly learns to hate customers. Not all people are jerks, but there's no shortage of them, either.Speaking for myself, I don't hold the "hapless" -- players like Akili Smith, David Klinger, Ki-Jana Carter, Charles Fisher, etc. -- in contempt. These are guys who simply lacked the talent and/or durability to succeed, or were the victims of plain old bad luck.Guys like Pickens, Dillon and Wilson are another kettle of fish. All of them did indeed have the talent, durability and luck needed to succeed as an NFL player. All of them signed contracts to play in Cincinnati. At a bare minimum, they agreed to show up, do their jobs, and conduct themselves in a manner that wasn't disruptive to their co-workers. And they couldn't even manage that. That, I think, is pretty sad.

I mostly remember that people didn't generally like his disposition, and I have a vague sense that he got pretty sulky and balky around contract time. HoosierCat
I don't remember what Carl Pickens' greatest transgressions were. I mostly remember that people didn't generally like his disposition, and I have a vague sense that he got pretty sulky and balky around contract time. He signed a five year deal and then three months later publicly tore into the front office for keeping Coslet on. So "sulky and balky" fits, but it wasn't only at contract time. TubThumper
I always thought that Pickens was a little overrated as a receiver too.

LABengalsFan09
Pickens overrated? Did you see some of the games he had against the Oilers @ riverfront? One handed catches in double coverage and so forth?!?!?!? The guy led the AFC in receiving w/ no running game to take any coverage away from him. He routinely smacked Rod Woodson in the mouth, and had one season with like 17 TDs. Those are Moss like numbers, when David Klingler wasn't trying to get him the ball. I think Rice and Young are first and Aikman and Irvin are there too but Blake and Pickens had like 50 TD's together. Blake knew how to loft it and Pickens could out jump or box out the DBs to make the catch. Wasn't he a high jumper in HS or college?
HairOnFire
I can't honestly say I hated him but I always had a special sort of dislike and resentment for Marco Battaglia. In my opinion the only reason he was drafted in the 2nd round was to gain leverage during Tony McGee's stalled contract negotiations. Once McGee was locked up long term Battaglia rarely saw the field of play and never performed well when he did. He never developed and by the time the starters job finally opened up Battaglia was just an unpleasant afterthought. Making matters worse, I once saw film showing a laughing Battaglia coming off the field after killing a drive with a penalty. When his coaches approached him he just walked away from them, prompting Coslet to scream..."That's why you'll never be anything in this league." Add it all up and I think Marco Battaglia becomes a perfect poster child for why a high draft pick should never be used to gain leverage in contract negotiations with another player. And last, I'm sure Rudi Johnson agrees with me.

I remember he actually got a raise after his old contract ran out and his quote in the paper was that he was completely surprised by it. Pissing money away on guys that don't deserve it or haven't earned it is one of my Bengal pet peeves (see Kevin Sargent, James Francis). Hopefully those days are over. redsfan2
This is easy .........#1 Pickens .......... Even Leon Dildon waited till after the game to quit.#2 Trumpy ....... Not as a player, but as an announcer; Is he ever going to say anything that isn't derogatory about the team ?????? Needs to have his head shrunk and his mouth sewn shut.
