oldschooler
Lewis 'Chucks' defense 1-19-05, 10:45 a.m. BY GEOFF HOBSON Bresnahan: Officer and a coordinator The least surprising move of the Bengals’ off-season came on the heels of the first surprising move Wednesday when assistant Chuck Bresnahan became the club’s defensive coordinator. http://www.bengals.com/
R-U-D-I
Seems like the guy that can take us the next step...we'll see. Things are in place for good things next year.
skyline
Very good. Not surprising, but it's good to have this settled.
bengalsfan33
Good to see we got this out of thw way.I think he may be able to put us in the 10-15 range defense wise. Very nice pickup by Marvin and crew...
HoosierCat
Seems like the guy that can take us the next step If we get him some help at DT...could be. If we don't, he probably won't have much more luck than Frazier.Good luck, Chuck.
bengalboomer7
I'm interested to see how this plays out. If the D stays the sames or maybe(pleas GOD no)gets a little worse we all know who the scapegoat will be!
JPW
Very good. Not surprising, but it's good to have this settled.Yes it it Very Good to have this Settled...Last year ML stated that it was a Big Plus to have his entire staff on board and working together from the Beginning of the Off-Season.This coming week is Senior Bowl Week, which means that the Off-Season has started in Ernest. It is Very Good to have this Settled...Continuity was a big issue, we certainly did Not want to be staring over from scratch on Defense. The Players all seem to have good things to say about this guy and he has the out-going personality that can keep the Defense Fired-Up.He will be able to pick-up the Defense without even missing a Beat. And Hopefully Take it to the Next Level... Tampa Bengal
I doubt the D will change very much. There will be new D tackles but other than that maybe a new free agent linebacker but I think the core is there.
brooklyn_bengalfan
I'm glad it is setteld quickly as well, but I remember reading all the concerns regarding how the bottom fell out on the Raiders D in his last year when they went from #1 D in 2002 to #25 in 2003.How confident are we that it wasn't his fault? chrishcovga
I'll reserve my judgement on him until September. As for his resume, he has everything your looking for. As for some of the talent he's drafted - the word is still out ! As long as we're looking at a defense that can average giving up about 100 yards on the ground instead of 163, then I'm happy. As long as we're looking at a defense that can average giving up about 180 in the air, then I'm happy. :player:
jrandom42
I'm pretty confident that Chuck will do well. Remember that 2003 was the year that the bottom dropped out from under the Raiders and everyone got old and hurt. Heck, he managed to get Woodson and Buchanon to play hard for him and that's saying a bunch, considering what their attitudes are now.I like his approach to defense, with the emphasis on discipline, fundamentals and execution. Nothing fancy, nothing flashy. Do your job, be where you're supposed to be, When you're supposed to be there, and make the play. Read, move, tackle. It's not glorious, like a saftey blitz, but if everyone does their job, the opposing defense is facing 3rd and long and a stingy defense.I can live with that. Paul Brown did a lot to hide a dearth of talent for years using this approach on both sides of the ball in the Bengals early days.

BengalszoneBilly
If the D stays the sameI simply cannot envision Marvin standing pat on that hand! It won't happen! TubThumper Posted on Jan 19 2005, 03:12 PM Paul Brown did a lot to hide a dearth of talent for years using this approach on both sides of the ball in the Bengals early days.Very true, he did. Sheese! Just when I think I know where you're coming from Tubby, you post something like this and totally confuse me.

If we don't, he probably won't have much more luck than Frazier.Good luck, Chuck. Absolutely. It also wouldn't hurt for the defensive players to suffer a few less injuries either. Last season look like the walking wounded out there!
jjakq27
Did anybody listen to the link of the press conference from Bengals.com? It's pretty good stuff. Alot of coach speak but this guy is a football junkie. That is a good thing. Marvin also made a few comments about basically getting with CB during the season to see if they saw things the same way. It sounds like this change was in the plans for awhile. It's about 30 minutes but it is a pretty good listen. CB kinda sounds like Bobby Knight when he is talking also. membengal
Bumping this up as I was curious what people said at Chuck B's hire in light of the postive reviews now. Happily, cautious optimism ruled the day. Good takes, for those who were in early on this...
