Skilly McRailnob
The 4 TE's currently on the roster:Ronnie GhentTony StewartReggie KellyMatt SchobelNone of these guys really impressed me this year. Any cap nerds out there know how much they are making and what the cap implications would be if they were cut? If marvin can add some good DL talent in the free agency period, I wouldn't mind dropping down in the first and taking Heath Miller.
Scottishbengal
I've got the jury out on the Tight Ends - can't make up my mind whether it's lack of ability/consistency or the system they are required to play.I assume that with Rudi feeling his way into the team last year, and with the expectation of Perry playing as well as having a 1st year quarterback this year, the emphasis for the TE's was on blocking and protection.Schobel's 76yarder showed a glimmer of what is possible when utilised but the TE's may either be hampered by their own limitations or are just victims of the current system. No doubt someone with more appreciation on the finer points of the game than I will shed some light. skyline
I know what you mean Scottish. I've always been a big fan of Schobel. He always seems to come up with a couple of big plays that leave you thinking he could be a good threat...then he vanishes for the next few games. The reason he seems to "vanish" I blame more on Drunkowski's play calling. Not Schobel's ability.
Tiger Stripes
a big time palymaking TE would be the finishing touch to the bengals potent offense.
HoosierCat
Let's not forget our most important TE, Brad St. Louis...One guy I wouldn't mind seeing in stripes is Jets TE Anthony Becht. He's scheduled to be a UFA, but I doubt the Jets let him get away...s

Skilly McRailnob
Not that it means much, but in his initial mock draft, Kiper has Heath Miller going #10 overall.

BengalByTheBay
I've always been a big fan of Schobel. He always seems to come up with a couple of big plays that leave you thinking he could be a good threat...then he vanishes for the next few games.I'm still a big fan of him. The reason he seems to "vanish" I blame more on Drunkowski's play calling. Not Schobel's ability. I was thinking the same thing (as Skyline). I also remember thinking the exact same thing last year. Schobel makes a couple of clutch plays mid-season, but you can't remember anything else from him. Oh yeah, he also has a number of drops on those bizarre 4 yard routes that aren't going to go anywhere anyway. I think BB continues to largely ignore the TE position. I won't get into whether that's a good or bad thing -- just interesting that sometimes it works so well and then you don't see them go back to it.Oh yeah -- Joisey you're right St. Louis is definitely the only "TE" that we absolutely cannot do without. All hail the unsung long-snapper specialist.-------------Edit: You know, I read this over and it looks like I'm being sarcastic. So, before Joisey gets offended, it's really not. I actually remember a time when they tried to throw him the ball once or twice, but I'm glad that's over. Every team needs a specialist at that position -- remember the Giants first round loss to the 9'ers 3 years (I think) ago in the playoffs. Or the Lions missing the extra point this year to eliminate them? Definitely a significant roster spot.
jditty47
ya the only te i like is st louis. schobel can stay just cuz he has potential to grow. stewert and kelley can both go. we all know my reasons.

I didn't think you were being sarcastic. Heaven knows our entire kicking game is only a couple years removed from the crapper and St. Louis is a big reason why.IIRC, LeBeau did flirt with using Brad as a "real" TE, mostly due to lack of other options, and he did OK. But I was always against the move simply because if he got hurt we were screwed. Anyone know who the backup LS is, anyway?
jditty47
i thought it was steinbach but i could be mistaken.
HairOnFire
Anyone know who the backup LS is, anyway? Justin Smith. If I'm right, do I win a case of motor oil or something?
jditty47
we were both wrong. 2nd string is schobel, and 3rd string is fontenot.http://www.bengals.com/team/depthchart.asp
HairOnFire
I took a shot. Several seasons ago Justin Smith was listed as the LS backup, but I'd forgotten that Schobel assumed that role after being drafted.

BengalsOwn
Our TE's were used mostly for blocking this year, and they did a good job at that.
bengalsfan33
I still like Schoebel, but I feel that Kelley and Tony need sent packing. I remember earlier in the season when Matt had a 76 yard TD, so I think he still has a chance to be a solid TE for the Bengals. I'd also think that Marvin will draft a TE sometime in the upcoming draft. I wouldn't mind to see Heath Miller, but I highly doubt he'd fall all the way to the second round...
