jditty47
What do you guys think about his situation for the future? My opinion u ask? I think he will be traded in the offseason. Palmer proved today that he is the man that will win for us all he needs is a team to play along with him. Also, alot of teams need a new starting quarterback or a QB that will backup at start and takeover if needed. 49ers, Saints, Redskins, etc. Some might take a qb but i doubt all will. kevnz
None of those teams need a caretaker QB. In fact I'd say at least two of those teams have a QB on the bench that could help them but they need a long term solution at QB. Kitna won't be going anywhere, it's the last year of his contract so it's not like they are gonna cut him when it's important to have a QB come in and not have a big drop off, and let's face it, who would you rather have as backup? Kitna or Bramlet? Besides, if Kitna didn't lobby to get traded this past offseason when he was a hot commodity, why would he get traded after being on the bench for the year? Plus you have to remember that guys on the team like Kit, he's a good influence on everyone, including Palmer. Yeah fans get their knickers in a bunch and start shouting for him, but that happens when you have ignorant fans and a team that wasn't playing good football and a good 2nd string QB...It's the nature of the beast really. I do say though if someone offered us a 3rd round or higher pick I'd say the team would have to consider it, but I can't see those teams parting with a pick that high. skyline
I'd love to see him get a shot as a starter somewhere...That said, I agree with Kev that he won't be nearly as marketable as he was last offseason. His staying in Cincy certainly couldn't hurt. ShulaSteakhouse
Someone like Dallas or Carolina should sign him, maybe, but if I'm the Bengals, given the cap room they have every year, they should re-sign him for 2-3 years cheap if he still likes it here. You need that kind of insurance on your roster these days.
BengalBax
I thought these topics were going to be closed? Since only one Palmer thread can be started let's be fair and maybe kill the Kitna threads as well??
skyline
Nah...this isn't a "Start Kita!!!" thread, so it's cool. It's actually a constructive discussion about the Bengals' QB position...imagine that!
Bengals_12th_man
Kitna will be here. He took a pay cut and they tested the water last year with no nibbles. I think theyll keep him until they know carson will be able to carry the team.
Scottishbengal
How about adding him to the coaching staff at some point?

I think they should keep him no matter what.Pay him 1 million a year to be the back up.He knows the offense, and it would be great insurance if Palmer were to go down.Kitna also seems to like the Cincinnati area.Keep him. The_Next_Big_Thing
Kitna will be here until he retires and joins the coaching staff. I love the fact that Kitna (from the bench) made the highlights on Sportscenter last night when he got excited for Carson after a TD throw. Usually backup QBs only make the highlights when they are taking over for the starter.
WorldBFree
I think the main motivation for Kitna to stay as backup/mentor was that he can get a headstart on a coaching career. The Bengals are a very loyal team, look at how long we let Kenny Anderson cash a paycheck....I can easily see Kitna moving from player to QB coach and eventually offensive coordinator. He is a leader, a bright player, and an all around good guy. We need more guys like him around, IMO. :player:
BengalNation1281
Kitna is the consumate team player. I love watching him during the games getting fired up and celebrating. He doesn't care about his situation or the fact that he is on the bench...he merely takes delight in watching his team play well and watching Palmer do well.I would like to see him get a chance to play at some point, but I would love it if he wanted to stay with the Bengals as a QB coach or some other coaching position when he retires. There aren't nearly enough guys like Kitna in the league, and there should be.BN1281

HoosierCat
The Cowboys looked like they could use a QB ... . Yup. And I wouldn't be surprised if his name is either Drew Brees or Philip Rivers. That's where the big offseason QB controversy is shaping up. Come on, it takes time for a QB to develop, and it's not like he had many passing options, he best send a thank you note to his TE. Plus it didn't help he had Flutie behind him with a knife the whole time
The_Next_Big_Thing
As opposed to having Rivers behind him and a sharp knife in the coaches hand?
HoosierCat
Where has THIS Drew Brees been for the past 3 years? Like kev said, in SD. I'm not saying he's the Second Coming, but IMHO Drew Brees has been trashed most unfairly. The kid is a good QB. 2002, his 1st year as a starter, he completed 61% of his passes, was in the top ten for most completions, threw for 3,000+ yards, 17 TDs and 16 INTS. That's pretty good for your first time out. And even when he was "off" last year he still had a 58% completion rate, 2,000+ yards and 11 TDs (against 15 picks) in 11 games. No, I didn't forget about Henson, and yes, they might. On the other hand, Drew remains an unknown and very questionable property. He's been out of football for a while, and only came back after it became obvious he had no future in baseball. I have my doubts about his drive and desire to play. And if Brees comes free (and after all the shenanigans in the first round this year over Rivers and Eli it's hard to see the Chargers trying to move Rivers), I think you have to consider the proven young QB from SD vs. Mr. "football was my second choice." jditty47
i still think kitna will be unloaded after this year cuz i bet he wants another shot at starting. Every nonbengal fan i talk to agrees. There are soooo many teams that need a starting QB ASAP.
