LesterLyles
This post is not intended to undermine the win b/c you guys know I watch you guys closely and think you can make some noise. But since when did Denver become such a powerhouse? They were smoked in the playoffs last year (round 1) and prior to that, hadn't made the playoffs in years. Now its a shock because Cincy beat them at home? I don't get it. Cincy, b/f the year, was a playoff possibility. I really don't understand NFL fan/media perception sometimes? I honestly think we get too hung up on trends after 4 or 5 games. Yes, it was a surprise that Denver didn't run more effectively but the overall result , at last in my mind, was expected. I feel like they were treating this game as if it were the '98 Bengals and '98 Broncos. Not the case!!
schweinhart
The Jets are a much better team at 5-1 than the Broncos were. But the Broncs still reap their Super Bowl fallout of the Elway Era, even though their not much of a playoff caliber team any more. You nailed it. They are still considered an elite team (every year they seem to have that aura) but look what they've done since Elway retired...not much! And the chop block on Monday has to raise some flags in the NFL. There is a reason they can stick Joe Scmo in there every year and they look like Emmit Smith. Dlinemen are afraid to egt injured and even a split second hesitation by a lineman can make a 3 yard run into an 8 yard run. Like I said in another post, I hope the win springs the Bengals. I think it can becasue I think there is enough talentthere to win some games. Warrick getting healthy is a big plus.
BengalszoneBilly
Warrick getting healthy is a big plus. I'm not so sure I'd call Warrick totally "healthy", even though he did see some playing time. It may not be for many weeks until that term can be fully applied. BengalByTheBay
I think "healthy" won't happen for Pdub until next year. They finally admitted he has a hairline fracture...sigh.

Living in Denver, I get to experience first hand the homerism that exists locally with the fans, and even the media when it comes to the Broncos. Yes, they were 5-1 going into Monday's game, but 4 of those 5 victories were against teams who currently have LOSING records. The only team they beat with a winning record was San Diego...yes, San Diego. You would think that at least some of the national media would have picked up on this. They aren't all that. After Monday night's game, LB Al Wilson said something to the effect that they'd be ok because "we're the Broncos." As if that's supposed to have some kind of magical connotation attached to it. We're the Broncos...we can't lose. Here's an example of the rampant homerism that exists in Denver today and the blatant disregard for anything Bengal. This, from a Denver Post writer who should at least have some knowledge of teams other than the Broncos. Warning Bengal fans...this is going to piss you off.http://www.denverpost.com/Stories/0,1413,3...2491985,00.htmlBungle against Bengals won't doBy Jim ArmstrongDenver Post Staff ColumnistCincinnati - They didn't, did they? They couldn't have, could they? You don't lose to the Bengals. It simply isn't done. You might get off to a slow start, might fall behind by a field goal here, a touchdown there. But you don't lose. Not to the Bengals. Mike Shanahan, Mastermind, strategist supreme and, apparently, part-time motivator, said all week you can lose to the Bengals. But it's his job to say that kind of stuff. That doesn't mean you do it. Not unless you want an all-expense-paid trip to the waiver wire, you don't.You don't cheat on the salary cap and get docked a couple of draft choices, then lose to the Bengals. And you thought your trusty old Timex never quits working. The article continues, but you get the point. No, we're not doing well so far this season, but did this guy sleep through all of last season and the changes that were made to this team? Does he and every other Bronco homer realize that things change every year in the NFL? I hope the Broncos lose the rest of their games. WhoDey42
I see what you guys are saying, but any way you look at it this was one of the greatest wins for the Bengals in a looooooooong time, being on MNF and everything. But you are right, the Broncos (as I said before the game ) haven't played anyone so far and their stats show it. The stats are always lopsided for the first part of the season. I don't know about you, and maybe it was just an off night, but I sure wasn't watching the #2 defense out there Monday night. And it sure didn't look like the 7th best offense either. So, I think all the stats will make more sense in a couple of weeks after everyone plays and even level of competion. But all the hype before the game on how Denver was just gonna walk all over us defenatly helped our national image after embarssing them on national (acutally INTERnational) TV. denverbengal
Forget Bengals fans being pissed, I'm a Jets fan and I'm pissed. .I thought you might be too. I can't believe the ignorance of some so-called sports writers. That is a ridiculous article. Steeler press tends to have that attitude as well. These writers are living is past erasMaybe that's one of the reasons it's so hard for teams to shed these kinds of stereotypes (i.e. Bengals suck, Broncos and Steelers rule). People read these misinforming articles in their home town papers, written by writers who have no clue what they're talking about, and the people actually believe it. WorldBFree
Here's the email I sent this hack:Jim,As a Bengal fan, I enjoyed your article. I'm sure, before you wrote the article, you checked back a few years to the day when Corey Dillon and the "Bungles" last embarrassed Denver. It looks like Never happens more often than leap year, at least it does when you are high off the fumes of your own pathetic hype machine. ShulaSteakhouse
Shannahan is a classless and dirty coach as are his punk players and they've been that way since he's been there (Romanowski, Sharpe et al). He's so paranoid he has to hold up that stupid folder in front of his mouth whenever talks, as if some other team is reading his lips from afar. What an a$$ he is with his super tan and dirty players! The Broncos sold-out their team colors and tradition for $ and are the least respectable team in the NFL IMO.Just nothing to like about them at all. Bobcat Bengal
This is the e-mail I sent him. I'm not as humorous as WorldBFree, but I'll let you be the judge:Wow, you've got some nerve. You don't lose to the Bengals huh? You sure as hell gaveus the then all-time rushing yards in a game to us though, (AND you lostthat game too.) You're team is the one that's overrated. Ever since Elway retired and starting making antacid commercials, your team has been on the decline. You got blown out by the Colts last year in the playoffs.....oh, sorry. I'm LIVING IN THE PAST. (Sound familiar?)My question is, do you even watch the Bengals, or do you just gather your information vicariously through Denver? I seem to recall the Bengals being the first team to defeat the Chiefs last year, and I bet they were thinking that same garbage (it's the Bengals) you are now. Funny, I used to feel the SAME way you feel about the Bengals about the Denver Nuggets. I mean, come on, the Denver Nuggets? But now, they get their umpteenth uniform change to a powdery blue and cornstarch yellow, and some new, exciting players, and they're a force to be reckoned with. And the Colorado Rockies? Let's not even go there.Granted, my team has been a losing team throughout the 90's, but this is a team not to be discarded. Sooner or later, the media and opposing players will get that crust out of their eyes and realize that this team is for real. And this isn't the NBA or MLB, its the NFL, ANYONE can win on any given night, remember that next time.
