ArmyBengal Posted January 28 Report Posted January 28 The big knock on Nolen I have seen is the lack of consistent desire to be great. He clearly has the ability to do so, but his motor runs cold at times and disappears. Quote
AMPHAR Posted January 28 Report Posted January 28 Overall explosive Interior DL seem to be deep this year at the Senior Bowl. Quote
TJJackson Posted January 28 Author Report Posted January 28 there are considerable character knocks on Nolen Unless these turn out to be smoke, I dont want him til r4 or later, and yeah, I know he wont be there Take character risks late, if at all Say it with me, folks: Jermaine Burton What other lineman look good at 17ish? TJJackson Posted January 29 Author Report Posted January 29 Erick All is out for all of 2025 now :-( F U C K Quote
HoosierCat Posted January 29 Report Posted January 29 Joe looks at Derrick Harmon. https://youtu.be/Hw_uTdq__P0?si=ooKMUhyi83ngLKgl Guy would be a top 10 pick if he could tackle. As is, it’s a no from me at 17. Quote
TJJackson Posted January 29 Author Report Posted January 29 If they want someone who cant tackle, Army is available Quote

He clearly has the ability to do so, but his motor runs cold at times and disappears. One thing mentioned about him was he's so quick off the ball AND he slashes so much eventually he'll guess wrong and gets washed out of the play. So you are going to get a mix of big and not so great plays. I was very impressed with the Tenn DT at the Senior Bowl Norman-Lott. Right now he's got the development, 4th round tag on him. Nolen has a slightly higher draft prospect grade on him than last year's favorite Newton. Just searching around this appears to be a more talented and deeper selection of DTs this year. Hopefully they can land one. Quote
HoosierCat Posted January 29 Report Posted January 29 Yeah, both DT and edge seem pretty deep this year, which is why I haven’t been locked in on dline at 17. Won’t complain if they end up going there but I don’t think it’s the end of the world if they don’t. Quote
AMPHAR Posted January 29 Report Posted January 29 From the way the analyst talk you could get a high end DT in the 20s and could realistically get a solid starter in Round 4. That's not even factoring in that the DB depth seems better this year vs. last. I think this is all pointing to a Higgins coming back on Tag at min. You can dump the salary cap on him and realistically grab some key defensive pieces. Just spit balling based on what the dudes are saying Quote
TJJackson Posted January 29 Author Report Posted January 29 With all the character and work ethics knocks on Nolen, I am sure he will be there at 17 Given his immense talent, it really comes down to finding out if these warts on his intangibles are real or not. I hope our scouts and coaches spend a great deal of time finding out the truth on this, because we could really use a TVondre Sweat type of guy on our DLine, but I dont want another big duddy Quote

Once I get this degenerative disc disease, rheumatoid arthritis and PTSD under control and cut back on the whiskey, I’m all in. Come to think of it, a couple of those things might actually help. Anger issues and pain killing agents probably are a bonus when tackling. Yep, put me in coach !! 2 Quote

HoosierCat Posted January 30 Report Posted January 30 If the Bengals need someone who, at the snap, will run in the opposite direction yelling “I give I give don’t hurt me don’t hurt me” I’m their guy. Quote
TJJackson Posted January 30 Author Report Posted January 30 I wanna be the designated genuflecting qb for victory formations :-) I will happily take league min 1 Quote
ArmyBengal Posted January 30 Report Posted January 30 In all honesty, I have no business being anywhere near a football field. Well, unless I'm cutting grass or have good seats. In terms of actually playing football, that never appealed to me. I was always short and light in the ass. Soccer was my sport. Played since I was 4, played all over the world and finally called it when I was about 35-36 years old. Great sport and provided great memories. I miss playing, but love watching. Back on topic... I like the Norman-Lott kid out of Tennessee as well, but am not sure why he has missed games in almost every season he played in college. I'm assuming injuries, but am not sure. Still looking for the clone of my favorite Bengals player at that position. GENOOOOOOO !!! Quote
HoosierCat Posted February 1 Report Posted February 1 Joe is a (soft) no on Grant at 17. https://youtu.be/qzCUjvKcns4?si=6PbQrcroHQmJsZjT Quote
AMPHAR Posted February 4 Report Posted February 4 How much will Golden utilize NT? Is Grant a pure NT only or can he demonstrate DT pass rush ability? Goodberry probably is right about a soft 17. Now if they are going to have a NT 90% of the time and you need two solid NTs, 17 would make more sense. Quote
ArmyBengal Posted February 4 Report Posted February 4 Just like Lou before him, Golden runs a 4-3 base and a 4-2 nickel known for bringing pressure. The were top 5 in turnovers nationally last year at Notre Dame. I would assume the NT will be utilized in the same manner that we have become accustomed to. That being said, if they go DT at any point in the draft (which they should) I don't want a space eater. I want a guy with some pass rush ability capable of bringing pressure up the gut. Hoping the snaps for both Jenkins and Jackson this season help them with progressing into year 2. Quote
TJJackson Posted February 5 Author Report Posted February 5 Jenkins and Mt McKinley did get some sacks at the end of the year, so Im hopeful we have something in those two Ossai showed up as well the big question is Myles Murphy Quote

AMPHAR Posted February 5 Report Posted February 5 Assuming they continue to use NT in a similar fashion as Lou, I think they got the guys currently to play over the Center the 45%-50% of snaps. Maybe they think they do or don't. I think they were attempting to last year with Rankins get back to more DT pass rush. His injuries/illness aside obviously didn't work out. Impossible to say at this point, but I believe Goodberry makes a good point. IF they using 17 on interior line or DL overall, you've got to get pass rush first. Given the list of potential cuts/FAs there will be snaps available along the DL. Right now, just a guess but 2 DL could be on the menu in the top 4 picks. 1 Quote
ArmyBengal Posted February 5 Report Posted February 5 Typically I will end up taking both a DT and a DE within the first four picks when doing mock drafts. It's a need and it happens to fall that way more often then not. OG, S, LB, WR, RB and CB get sprinkled in as well. Quote
AMPHAR Posted February 5 Report Posted February 5 Quote That potential draft scenario played out in the first mock draft from NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein. With the 17th pick, the Bengals select Arizona wide receiver Tetairoa McMillan. Seems a little unlikely but that would be an A+ scenario in the event Tee signs elsewhere. Quote
