PFT: Bills To Cut Gildon?!?!

GILDON GETTING RUN FROM BUFFALO?

We're picking up some indications that the final 53-man roster of the Buffalo Bills might not include the name "Gildon, Jason."

Gildon, a post-June 1 cap casualty in Pittsburgh, was signed by the Bills to a one-year deal after flirting with several other teams, including the Bengals and Packers.

A league source tipped us off of the possibility that Gildon couldbe gone, and our discussions with industry sources confirmed the suspicions.

Our guess is that, if the Bills make the move, someone else will give Gildon a shot.  Hell, maybe even the Steelers would offer him a one-year deal -- but probably for not much more than the veteran minimum.

Given our situation at LB, if he pops loose, we need to go after him again.

Why did we not sign him before? Was it because he opted for Buffalo or because we didn't take the option of signing him ?

IIRC, Gildon was looking for a one-year deal (I assume he hoped to have a good year and parlay that into a last big contract). But the Bengals wanted to do a 2-year deal, and wouldn't budge. They might be more flexible now. But the Pack is still short on LB depth, too, and if it turns into any kind of biding war I don't have a lot of hope. Oh well, let's see if he actually gets cut first...

Don't get too excited, Pro Football Talk is the NFL equivalent to the Weekly World News...

Agreed. But FWIW I cruised a couple Bills message boards and it appears many Bills fans see him getting a solo number from the fat lady. Apparently he hasn't impressed.

BuffaloBills.com reports the Buffalo Bills have released LB Jason Gildon.

Ross...Gildon...Ross...Gildon...

Me, I'd shoot for Gildon, take Ross.

EDIT: eff it, shoot both of 'em. Panthers cut Jesse Armstead. Maybe it's the Joisey in me, but this guy's a warrior. Get on the phone, Mikey!

Buffalo was very disappointed in Gildon's performance. They fought to bring him in and he didn't make 1 single play for them all preseason. Even a team desperate for LB's would have to think twice...he's almost more of a DE these days.

As for cuts, I'd like to see the Bengals give Lassiter a call, even with 10 DBs still on the roster he could work out. I remember him being a very good DB on a very bad team with the Cardinals...not sure if his production has dropped off or if he was just a salary cap cut. One standout memory of him was a 4 INT day...I don't even remember who it was against, but I remember Berman yelling his name over and over during the highlights.

Keith McKenzie was cut by Buffalo, and Kenny Holmes by GB, both are solid veterans but don't have eye-popping stats. Hokmes have 5.5 sacks last year, his best year was 8 which he did twice with the Giants.

Not a whole lot of help out there right now, hope this CB Baumann can contribute.

Does anyone know if Gildon or A. Ross were picked up by anyone?

Not yet, but that's not surprising. If either of them signed with a team now and were on the roster opening day, their salary for the whole season would be guaranteed. If they aren't signed until after opening day, then teams no longer have to pay them if they can them somewhere along the line. So look for a flurry of vet signings early next week.

The latest best chance to upgrade DT went w/ Bryan Robinson signing w/ the Fins.

DT Kenderick Allen was signed by the Saints. Oliver Gibson is out of work again, but I'd rather see the Bengals get Larry Smith, Kendrick Clancy, or Eric Downing if a move is made for DT.

As far as LB, I wouldn't be surprised to see the Seahawks get Rudd for weakside help w/ Chad Brown out.

If the Bengals make any move between Gildon and Ross, I sure hope it's Gildon but the Pack would seem to be in the mix again for him.
