JPW
Tory James is awful. Well no excuses, they Flat Out KICKED our butt......But we did have a lot of 2nd stringers in on defence. You get a "jump ball" between Price and James and Price wins every time.I don't know why James didn't go for just trying to Bat the ball away. But in a way this is the best learning experence that Palmer can have.He is going to Have to be able to deal with 8 and 9 guys in the box, or he will see it every game. HoosierCat
Polar opposite of last week's game. Then, all we could complain about was the punting; this week, the punting has been the only thing that's OK. kick/punt coverage stinks, lots of dumb penalties, CP & the offense are out of sync, no o-line protection & he's made some bad decisions. D-line getting demolished. Secondary nonexistent. Steinbach out, elbow still effed up, Thornton hurt & out for game, no word what's up there yet. Dumb, sloppy, bad...boos all around. jditty47
i knew this was gonna happen. We cant expel that kind of energy last week and then do it again this week with as many injuries as we've had. 3 of our top 4 receivers were out...warrick, kwash, and schobel. Steinbach was out as well on offense. Glad we saw this in preseason so we can correct it by the jets game. And i dont know what u guys are seeing...our punting started awful. Larsons first punt goes like 32 yds and then he gets a lucky bounce. The kick looked awful. ANd his next one was what...36 yds. Ya hes doing awesome. His next 4 were good but the game was already out of reach. He needs to punt way more consistent or we are gonna be killed by field position. That's the thing....It's great that this happened in preseason...It is a character building thing. They have seen the let down early on, they have seen last week doesn't mean a damn thing. The Falcons blitzed like mad and that's just what Carson had to see. Would he have played differently if he had P-dub and K-wash and Schobel? Probably, but who really knows...It's a loss and the team now has to go back and see what went wrong....But does this mean that the season is over? No and really, anyone willing to say otherwise is a damn fool. So no, the sky isn't falling, and if you think it is....Maybe it's time to find another sport to cheer for. BengalBax
Well I can say this for sure. Palmer is gonna get rocked by these kinds of blitzes ALL YEAR guys. It's going to be along year for the O. No running lanes, no time to throw. Palmer MUST step up. And I am SCARED TO DEATH about this team. As many injuries as we had, the Falcons were missing key guys as well. It just doesn't bode well to lose BIG like we have in the 2 preseason games we have lost then go into the regular season expecting playoffs. Something just doesn't feel right about this team right now, I am not sure what it is. I mean 37-10 is downright BAD. Fix it Lewis, and fix it QUICK! Case closed. kevnz
Oh give me a flipping break Bax...First the Tampa game wasn't a blow out...It was fairly respectable at 20-6 and it was even closer when you look at the first team it was what, either 6--6, or 13-6....The Falcons blitzed like bloody hell and we didn't have our number 2 or number 3 reciever and the pass catching TE....Yeah it was bad but Carson was throwing to guys that will have a hard time making it onto the field during the regular season....Warrick already said he would have played if it was for real, and Washington probably could have too...That was Carsons first real taste of the blitz and that's good cause he needs to see it...He's gotta learn and the sooner he sees it the sooner he'll be ready for it a second time.... redsrule2500
Last week we were cheering this team! I think we need to calm down But seriously, the Bengals noticed the flaws so they will probably pay attention to them and hopefully improve on them. It's just one pre-season game. :player:
cincykent
The biggest weakness that stuck out to me was the lack of pressure on the QB. They didn't even come close to touching him. Schaub had all day to throw. Palmer got pressured quite a few times.
HoosierCat
Thoughts & observations...Larson was much better, Graham was solid & it sounded like he got some good distance on his few KOs. STs were horrible on coverage and returns, looked like the bad old days again. Falcon return men weren't being stopped, and whenever we did something good -- like TJ's return -- it got whiped out by a penalty. I'd be interested to know if a lot of the "bubble" guys got ST time this week vs. the ST regs; that might explain the sudden downturn. The Bengals seemed to make no adjustments to the blitz. I mean, it wasn't like Atlanta was just blitzing randomly. If it was third and long, they blitzed, which is pretty much SOP. I could only listen to Homer, but it didn't sound like they so much as went to the shotgun in likely blitz situations. Wed just dump off to the hot read, who they'd cover, and it'd be time to punt. Maybe, after the Jets were so kind as to show us their blitz packages, Lewis didn't want to reciprocate and show the pickup strategies? Doesn't change the fact we got manhandled at the LOS, just an observation.Rudi not getting going (another result of losing the trench battle) was a big contributor. We've said it all along, Carson is going to need a ground game. We need Steinbach's & his elbow back.D sounded very Tampa-ish: decent against the run, but no QB pressure and no coverage. Yeah, I know, vanilla defense, no disguised coverages or stunts, blah, blah, blah, still not a good performance.

Yeah, I know, vanilla defense, no disguised coverages or stunts, blah, blah, blah, still not a good performance. Along the same lines ..........I really didn't pay that much attention to the 1st two games ...... Tampa was a look see at the new guys pretty much after the 1st qtr. Patriots was thanks in part to Corey D. or so I thought till I found out BB was doin a rope a dope on us This one has me a little more worried. Even coach Lewis was saying this was a dress rehearsal for the opener. If that's the case, then he and the rest of the coaching staff had better do a re write Quick. Wasn't too concerned about Palmer not looking as good as last week. He did have a hell of a game last week ...... and he didn't have defenders hanging off of him while he was trying to throw the ball. I was concerned by the seeming indifference that his line and his coaches had about him having to share the backfield with the Falcons. The line has got to block ... and if they don't then the coaches have to make adjustments. Neither did either. Worrisome.Wasn't real concerned with the injuries. As far as I could tell, nothing seemed to be that bad and they've got a couple of weeks to get over them. Was concerned at the drop off after the starters were out .... and I think a lot of people here have made reference to our lack of depth as being a potential problem. As of last nite ... I think we can drop the Potential part of that statement. Was very concerned about the numbers racked up on the defense. I don't know about the rest of you, but I got a very cold feeling deep in my stomach when I thought of what it would have been like with Vick in there instead of ...... What was his name ????? Did anybody get close enough to him to read what it said on his jersey ??? Like Joisey says just not a good performance. I know some of them weren't starters, but like coach Lewis says .... you've got to make the most of the opportunity when you get it ..... and they didn't. Not writing off the season ..... things can be fixed ....... BUT .... they definitely do need to be fixed. I'm done now.
