TJJackson Posted November 20, 2013 Report Posted November 20, 2013 I am not sure I can put into words how much better this team is with Vontaze than without himI can even forgive some (not all) of the 15 yard penalties because some of them are just the result of - how did Hair once put it? - "being the bully". Not that I am a fan of real life bullying, rather the point is that his physical play style (sometimes) gets into the heads of the opposing offense's skill players, and it negatively impacts their ability to play, even on plays where he isn't the one making the stopand now, he's been named the AFC DPW. Its about d@mn time :-)/>http://cincinnati.com/blogs/bengals/2013/11/20/burfict-named-afc-defensive-player-of-week/ Quote
ArmyBengal Posted November 20, 2013 Report Posted November 20, 2013 He's a beast with a chip on his shoulder about not getting drafted.Nice problem to have. Penalties ?? While I would rather not see them, some of the outcome has been worth it.What I mean by that is, the intimidation factor. Yes, it makes a difference and has been something missing from the defense for a long time.I also liked his comments about what Harrison has meant to him since coming over. That in and of itself makes having Harrison here a real plus moving forward. Here's to hoping he continues to do the things we've seen to this point. gregcook68 Posted November 21, 2013 Report Posted November 21, 2013 Here's a nice video interview of him and Marvin:/>http://www.bengals.com/media-lounge/videos/Vontaze-Burfict-Undraftable-to-league-leader/e08e36c3-3d07-400e-980a-181fc73eb644 Quote
kingwilly Posted November 21, 2013 Report Posted November 21, 2013 Burfict is making a case as the best LB in the game. Of all the young guys out there right now, Kuechly (and Kuechly was a Bomber brother), Alonso, Bowman, Taze is my choice precisely for the chip on the shoulder attitude.Consider, too, how may of those other guys are r1 r2 picks.... He is delivering amazing value. When he's up for it, he's gonna make bank. Quote
COB Posted November 21, 2013 Report Posted November 21, 2013 I'll tell you what, Marvin Lewis is a good man. Quote
Walrus Posted November 21, 2013 Report Posted November 21, 2013 I've been very pleasantly surprised by Burfict -- not only for his excellent play, but even more for his intangibles. He seems to have great innate leadership skills. I always lamented that we couldn't find a LB to be "our" Ray Lewis - there's only one of of those, after all - but Vontaze has the potential to be that kind of player/leader. I love everything I've seen out of him. Quote
TJJackson Posted November 21, 2013 Author Report Posted November 21, 2013 "our" Ray Lewispreferably sans the drug charges and stabbings, of course...... Quote

ArmyBengal Posted November 21, 2013 Report Posted November 21, 2013 All I know is, I love watching him dole out a hit to an opponent and then get up and stare down the other players. He lets them know he is going to be bringing it all game long and he's not going to stop.I'll take the penalties from time to time because I know that dude is straight intimidating the other guys. Walrus Posted November 21, 2013 Report Posted November 21, 2013 "our" Ray Lewispreferably sans the drug charges and stabbings, of course......Picky picky...I've learned to take these things one week at a time. Nothing lasts forever, but until he holds up a corner store while wearing his jersey or he's caught bathing nude in fountain square, I'll enjoy every game he's out there intimidating and wreaking havoc on opponents. ArmyBengal Posted November 22, 2013 Report Posted November 22, 2013 Holy crap, I didn't realize his numbers were so outrageous.Seriously, "outrageous" might be an understatement in regards to what he's done to this point of the season.Thing is, you truly know it's him and not someone else making him better because they are on the field.HE has more to do with making others around him better than the other way around.Last-Name-Rey comes to mind. Not taking anything away from his game mind you. Quote
gregcook68 Posted November 23, 2013 Report Posted November 23, 2013 I'm not sure if I saw this on video or read it in an article, but someone said to Marvin, (Obvious paraphrase) "You have coached and been around one of the best linebackers of all time, in Ray Lewis. Does Burfict have the potential to be as good?"Marvin's reply, (Obvious paraphrase) "Yes he does. If he stays clean and healthy, because he's also a very smart football player." Quote
