HoosierCat
One thing I have seen mentioned is that while Nelson blitzing worked on that play near the end of the Lions game, generally speaking the safety blitz has been a recipe for getting burned this year. Zimmer needs to find a way to get pressure with a different package or at least disguise the safety blitz better. Teams have picked up on that play. Zimmer needs to find a way to get pressure with a different package or at least disguise the safety blitz better. Teams have picked up on that play.Teams really have picked up on it. No doubt.Thing is, you see Nelson running up not much after the offense gets to the line and they easily audible to pick him up.Next thing you see is a long pass play, as Nelson is completely neutralized.Yes, they need to figure that one out.I hate having the feeling that a game should be a win for them, but I just do in this one.I'm worried about the Bengals tendency to give up big games to rookie and unknown QB's, but think they will handle it.What I hope most for, outside of no injuries, is that Kirkpatrick has a game that allows him to build some confidence.I want to see that player from Alabama with some attitude. That "swag" as it was termed.Call it what you want, just bring it. The secondary needs it.
Scottishbengal
The Jets' defense is really good, so I don't expect us to put up a bunch of point, but Geno Smith doesn't strike me as a quarterback that's going to give us problems. ..... and there it is - the comment that ensures we getting a good arse-pounding on Sunday based on "sods law" !!The O is showing signs of improvement but I'd prefer not to be 7 points adrift and chasing the game with 3 minutes left. The loss of Hall IS going to hurt :crutches:/> - and Ghee will probably get a season ending injury whilst taking a pre-game dump and Kirkpatrick will probably catch his dick in his zipper or something similar leading to another sessionl on the medics couch ! Either way the secondary is weaker without Hall lining up. Kirkpatrick (according to Bengals.com) has registered 3 tackles on D + 4 on ST's in his (almost) 1.1/2 seasons so far. I'm cautious of any QB going against the Bengals in a 3rd and long situation as it seems they achieve the required yardage and then some. Bringing the safety blitz doesn't do us any favours at all, just leaves the backfield exposed for some serious yardage :poop:/>
ArmyBengal
We can say Kirkpatrick all day long, but if the defense doesn't figure out a way to stop letting the opposition convert 3rd down after 3rd down, it's going to remain spotty. I thought I saw where the Lions converted something like 13 of 19 3rd downs in the game Sunday. That sh*t just can't happen.

When the QB has all day to throw someone's going to get open...I don't care if you have three Revis' back there guarding guys. Or in the case of Detroit, let the QB run around all day and Megatron's going to be in triple coverage, which is exactly where the Lions want him to be. Getting pressure on Geno this week will be critical. If they can manage that, then he's going to make some poor decisions. If they can't, then it could be another long day for the defense. skyline
Read over on cbssports that the Jets have played a top 10 defense twice this year and lost both of them. *fingers crossed*On the other hand, their defense has me seriously concerned. The Patriots managed to hang a big # on them, but they're generally quite stout. If our offense can move the ball on them, then we'll know that the past couple of weeks haven't been an aberration. If they can't move the ball on them, then I fear something along the lines of the Cleveland game, which =
ArmyBengal
The Jets also haven't played an offense ranked higher than #14 either and that was the Patriots. The Bengals will be the first top 10 offense they have faced this season.I still like our odds in this one. combatbengal
I would just like to see an entire team effort and win by a few TD's. Week after week, either the offense show's up and the Defense looks like they didn't prepare or game plan. Or the Defense comes to play and the Offense decides to take the day off. If Andy and the boys can put points on the board and sustain long drives, and the Defense can get sacks, turnovers and get off the field on 3rd downs in the same game, that would be awesome! These nail biter games are fun to watch at times, but my heart can't take it week after week!
ArmyBengal
I hate when the Bengals play the late afternoon games.Either early or late, but heading into the evening is busy as can be for me on Sundays.Maybe I can write a letter requesting that not happen again. I mean don't they know my kids take a bath Sunday evening ??

Hawkins on pace,it seems RT @bertagna1 news on devon stil? how's hawkins progressing?Sucks about Still. He had a few flashes but between this and spending almost all of last year riding the bench it's tough to get a read on what they have in him. 101Airborne
IN case people don't know, the Lions have the top rated offensive pass protection in the league. Our line didn't do great against them, but it's not like they were up against some scrubs. Interestingly enough, the Bengals were second in that same category going into the Detroit game. I think we'll play the Jets pass much tougher this week. The Jets have a strong D, so we'll need all the defensive stops we can get.
HoosierCat
Joe Reedy @joereedy 13mNewman, Still, M.Jones and Maualuga not practicing. Hawkins is practicing for first time. Not eligible to return until next week #BengalsI hope it's nothing serious with Marvin. He was slow getting up after that TD catch last weekend.Rey Maualuga? Wow, I had almost forgotten he was on the team. I guess that's a good thing, all things considered.

ArmyBengal
If no one is talking about Maualuga, that's a good thing.Yeah, Marvin Jones came down right on the shoulder and was taking his time with it from there.Anyone else thinking about how Hawkins is going to add yet another speed dimension to the offense ??Last year there was no Gio and Eifert to spread things around. Add Hawkins to the mix and yeah, i'm smiling.

To his credit he was very quick in getting rid of the ball and sometimes he hurt himself by doing so. princeton
Anyone else thinking about how Hawkins is going to add yet another speed dimension to the offense ??I was actually thinking how Hawkins might take offensive plays away from Marvin Jones. on the other hand, if Hawkins displaces Jones as ST gunner, the Jones might be more available for the offense. in fact, might no teams duty even mean that Jones would be free to become number 2 receiver, displacing Sanu? I've been wondering where Hawkins is going to fit in when he comes back. This is a nice problem to have.
HoosierCat
Still officially OUT for the Jets game.Marvin Jones (shoulder), Newman (ankle) and Rey (hammy) didn't work today. Burkhead was limited with a calf injury. On the Jets side, Santonio Holmes isn't expected to play, even though he started practicing last week. He's been out since week 4 with a hammy

ArmyBengal
I like both Sanu and Jones and have nothing poor to say about either.I'm simply liking the situation we currently find ourselves in with the return of Hawkins.I think it's harder to dislike players when they only get so many targets. They have all made the most of their opportunities when called upon. Additionally, a few of the big plays had the Bengals secondary in the right places, but the line failed to get to Stafford before he could throw. That is a credit to Stafford and his line. I presume the stat that they did well with was hurries?
