from today:

- More time on D is cutting into Pacman’s return opportunities.

- Clements PT is down because Crocker & Pacman are playing better than him

- Expects Cook back for Dallas

- As mentioned elsewhere, coaching staff waiting for Dunlap to step up

- Also as mentioned elsewhere, thinks MJ will want Trent Cole $ ($10 million/year deal)

- Thinks Moobs will get a new deal done eventually

- Jason Allen could be released before next season

- Thinks Bengals will go 9-7 (losses to Philly, Baltimore)

Loss to Philly? Did he watch last night's game?

He also mentioned that we will have one new assistant for sure, and possibly 2. Said that he didn't want to speculate, though

My short list of assistants not to return: Darrin Simmons, James Urban, and possibly Paul Guenther. Special teams has been so inconsistent this year, and most positive plays have come through the talent of the players, not the game plan. Someone needs to take the blame for the slow development of receivers not named Green. Should it have taken half the season for season for coaches to see the abilities of Sanu to come to light? I think Marvin might also blame Urban for not pushing Sanu in practice enough. Guenther has only been around a short period of time, yet his most productive LBer is an undrafted free agent...that's no exactly s good thing among a group that includes some high draft choices.

I was thinking more on the lines of Zimmer and maybe Anderson/Alexander. Maybe those last 2 guys are getting older and ready to hang it up? Zimmer of course could be a HC candidate. I'd hate for him to leave, but I really can't see how he keeps getting overlooked. I think Guenther's issue is the talent that he's been given at LB, and I can't see Urban being blamed for a rookie 3rd rounder not coming on until the 2nd half of the season. Even with the guys who Urban had last year, look at Caldwell being a fixture on the inactive list in Denver and Jerome Simpson stinking it up in Minnesota. Simmons is held in high regard as well, right?

Anderson has been seen in high regard among coaches all across the league, if he was going to retire I wouldn't see it being mentioned under Marvin's breath but more along the lines of celebrating his career and giving him a farewell tour the rest of the years. Alexander is the assistant head coach, I could see them taking away that monicker and allowing him to spend more time with the line than giving him the axe. I think the league may have given Zimmer his head coaching chance last year, and many teams are going to probably not look at him a as a long time solution give his age and lack of head coaching experience. Urban is responsible for getting the most out of his position players and not making Marvin to have to talk to his guys so that they give more effort in practice. Simmons has been give high drafted players given their positions, and has yet to put together a top 10 unit together. Simmons' units have consistently underachieved.

Get rid of Allen now, and sign Jason Babin for some more front 4 pressure! Can't hurt having more pass rush, and Allen had yet to even play.

So it sounds like salary purge in Philly has begun. The Bengals would have to wait and see if Babin makes it through waivers before they could sign him to a team friendly contract. If they claim him in waivers they would have to pick up the rest of the money owed to him by the Eagles. I wonder who else they will cut loose.

Yea wait till he clears waivers and sign him to low contract to play out the year. I just think you can't have enough pass rush, it sure helps out the secondary.

Reports say Ben might be back this week against the Ravens. I would pretty much guarantee he will be back for the Bengals game. The key to the Bengals rattling Ben would be to get to him in time to knock him down every play. The most important thing is to not let him break tackles on possible sacks and bring him down.

Has there ever been a player that died in the middle of a game ??

If he was really as hurt as they claim and he plays, you might just see it Sunday.

Stay tuned...

Carson predicted it will happen...while sitting right next to Ben.

"The truth of the matter is ... somebody is going to die here in the NFL. It's going to happen.''

-- Cincinnati's Carson Palmer, in my quarterback roundtable discussion this week in Sports Illustrated.

I found that comment chilling, to say the least. The other quarterbacks at the table -- Ben Roethlisberger, Matt Ryan, Tony Romo, Aaron Rodgers -- didn't dispute Palmer's words, and when he said them, the table got very quiet. They know. They feel the same thing happening in this game, too. And the fact that this statement has gotten zero traction in the last four days tells me something that all of us should find frightening: People read that line and just said, Yup, someone's going to die. We accept that. Now bring on football, dammit!

As much as I hate s**ttsburgh, please don't speak that into existence. That would be awful.

I'm not saying I want some sh*t like that to happen, only saying if the injury is what they said it was, you might just see that happen. If it wasn't what they said it was, then they are all full of sh*t.

On a side note:

It would be something horrible to see happen.

Krumrie's injury ranks up there with Theismann's.

Bengals work out LB Arron Curry today, not sure what that means probably nothing.

The same stud Aaron Curry from Wake Forest that was a top 5 draft pick? I wanted him straight out of the draft to be outside presence for the Bengals.Maybe he is another reclamation project that they can get a few decent years out of. I mean you can never have enough first round draft picks on defense right?
