HoosierCat Posted October 3, 2012 Report Posted October 3, 2012 I tickled the database over at profootball-reference.com for a list of Bengals wins in the first four weeks of the season. If I've eyeballed that right, 2012 will be the 13th (uh-oh ) time that the Bengals have started 3-1 or better. In the 12 previous seasons, they have never finished under .500, and they have won 10 or more games six times.Looking at the modern 16-game era (which chucks four seasons from the seventies) and setting aside the strike-shortened 1982 season (they were 7-2 after 9 games) the list of comps is:2009: 10-62006: 8-82005: 11-5 (4-0 start)1990: 9-71989: 8-81988: 12-4 (4-0 start)1981: 12-4Notably, that list includes the team's only two Super Bowl seasons as well as two of the three Lewis-era playoff appearances. Bottom line, the bengals aren't quite playoff-bound yet, but anything worse than 8-8 would be literally unprecedented. Quote
ArmyBengal Posted October 3, 2012 Report Posted October 3, 2012 With the suck that is Tony Romo, I might be inclined to change that one to a win.I still think they find a way to a winning season. Quote
HoosierCat Posted October 3, 2012 Author Report Posted October 3, 2012 Yeah, the Dallas, SD and at least one of the Pitt games are looking more winnable than I'd thought. Still a lot of season to go, tho. But at least my 7-9 prediction is looking low! Quote
Scottishbengal Posted October 3, 2012 Report Posted October 3, 2012 Jeeeeeeeez - my 6-10 (7-9 at a push) is looking way off the mark I'm very glad to say Nice work with the stats there Hoosier Quote
