derekshank
We've got a few weeks before the conversation starts to heat up in training camp... but I figure I'll go ahead and begin the debate. There are going to be a number of guys that get cut this year that will not have trouble finding another team. I think the best player that will not be in stripes in September is Pat Sims. Some think the Bengals will carry 5 DTs... but I just don't see it. When Thompson fell to them in the 3rd round it was a major steal and Sims was brought back on a one-year deal and is coming off a significant injury. Sims is talented - but his contract and the young talent around him gets him squeezed out.
Wraith
I agree about Sims. Also I expect one of the vet CBs to be cut (Allen, or Newman, or Jones) and I wouldn't be surprised if Brandon Tate gets cut....I know we are getting alot of noise about Tate being the #2 but if Binns and the new guys show well in camp are you going to keep an older guy or some great young players, particularly since he has shown us nothing on game day. I think Allen is about as safe as any CB on the roster. My guess is that Prater is going to the PS - so for one of the vets to be cut, Ghee will have to take a roster spot. I have long thought that Newman was a dead man walking... but I'm less confident in that opinion than I was. Tate turns 25 in October - so he's not old. He was also a bit behind the curve last year because he didn't sign with the Bengals until September 4th... so it's hard to know what they have with him. With a year under his belt in Gruden's offense, I would think a roster spot is his to lose.
ArmyBengal
How much is Geathers making this season ??I think Sims is definitely on the choping block. As mentioned, coming back on a one year deal, the coaches wanting to see more from him, and them drafting who they did, makes him expendable. The CB spot could be one to watch, but I think Allen's versatility at the safety spot makes him a keeper. The WR corps will lose someone able to catch on elsewhere as well.Overall, it's a nice problem to have in cutting solid players. HoosierCat
If Dan Skuta is, as reported, really "neck and neck" with Lawson for the starting SSLB job, Manny could be on the chopping block (though the lack of depth at LB may still save hime).Something has to give at RB and that something, as much as I'd hate to see it, could be Brian Leonard. Not sure he brings anything to the table that BJGE doesn't.I agree that Sims and Geathers are on thin ice.My sleeper pick: Nate Clements. Does he really have one more year in the tank? combatbengal
Leonard is a beast and he won't be cut!
princeton
take your pick: Nate Clements, Taylor Mays, Bernard Scott, Pacman, Manny Lawson, Rey Maualuga, Newman. Also, Jordan Shipley really can't afford to lose a step, but I figure that he's saved by the PUPthe guy that I'd really like to keep is Pat Sims, but I envision him being traded late for a safety or RB, as McDonald was last year. Hopefully they get a lot more, this time.
Wraith
If you believe the stuff on Bengals.com Geathers is one of Zimmer's and Marvin's favorite players. I think he will be given all possible chances to make this team, don't see him getting cut in favor of Jamaal Anderson, Derrick Harvey, or Pat Sims. Once he participates in a practice, let alone an exhibition game, he's no longer eligible for PUP. In other words they can't play him in games/practice, decide he looks slow, then PUP him. Given that, I don't think PUP plays into it

BengalPimp
I'm going with one of the former 1st Rd bust DE's they signed this offseason, and my money is on Derrick Harvey being shown the door........He just isnt any good. I'd hate to see him take even 1 snap away from another guy who will actually do something on the field.
