Sounds like Marvin wants Upshaw at #21 so we will see

Really ?? Was that in an interview ??

It was reported by one of the guys at SI last week. Supposedly the two guys they like at 21 are Upshaw and Peter Konz.

IMO, Upshaw at 21 is a pipe dream.

sounds like Upshaw will be available. From PFW:

"The more Courtney Upshaw talked (in the interview process), the more I got scared. He has a lot of distractions in his life. There are a lot of concerns there. We need an edge guy, but we wouldn't touch him in the first (round). I'd have hesitations in the second where we're picking, after hearing him talk about grabbing his girlfriend by the hair."

I still think that it's too easy to mope your way out of Cincy. I'd have kept Rivers and let him slug it out for MLB with ReyRey. He'd be playing for next contract (with another team), which can motivate

Hopefully the organization learned from Corey Dillon, Ocho Cinco, and others that keeping guys who are unhappy to be here will do nothing but drag your team down. The Bengals do not seem to have trouble keeping the guys they want (except Joseph) and Zimmer appears to be a major reason why, I wonder when he gets his HC nod next year how that will translate, lots of guys (especially on defense) are in the final years of their contracts.

As to Rivers, Howard was flat out better in this system, more aggressive, better leader etc. Get something or nothing they got something and they got about as much as the Texans got for DeMeco Ryans who has been a much better LB in the NFL so I am happy.

Konz huh ?? A center, who "may" give some versatility ?? A guy that has had injury concerns every season he has played ?? The guy who is currently rehabbing an ankle that caused him to miss the last few games of last season and has kept him from working out for anyone ever since ??

Do they have that little faith in Cook, who they gave a 4 year extension to last season ??

Not exactly how I envision them using a first round pick...

Upshaw ?? Another guy I hope is gone before we pick.

"not explosive" and "not overpowering" aren't really good attributes of DE's.

I think most people are projecting him as a lb, aren't they?

I don't know enough about the guy to judge either way, but I certainly don't think he's devoid of talent. If the Bengals think he can be effective, then I'd trust their judgment on that.

Per Garafolo, the Bengals will get the Giants' 5th round pick. That's the last pick in the round, of course.

I guess we did better than SF did. They only got a 7th for Mays...

Later, Keith, Hope you have better luck in the Big Apple.

Well Mays was a second rounder vs a top 10 selection >.<,I guess it's win win for bengals they got who they really wanted.

He was a Top 10 selection in a draft that had an incredibly weak corp of 1st rounders looking at it years later.

I've seen Upshaw at both spots and even though I trust what the coaches think they can do with a player, those types of comments about how a player hasn't shown what you expect on film, gives me reason to pause.

Well, I see army remembered to take his grumpy pills this morning.

Yes, Konz has an injury history (and, notably, a history of playing through pain, too) and that would worry me, especially given the Bengals' history of injury problems. But he's also a monster run-blocker and no one seriously doubts his ability to master the guard spot.

Upshaw, as skyline notes, is being seen more as an OLB, but he would be perfect for that "joker" role Marvin loves. All the guy does is make plays; he had 9.5 sacks and 18 tackles for loss last season. And his biggest games came against the best teams. But I've run across very few scenarios where he's still on the board at 17, much less 21, so I'm not expecting him in stripes this fall.

I blame the allergies.

D*mn Cincinnati...

HA!

Try living in Nashville...

They have been so bad, I actually left work early the other day.

That sh*t never happens.

That being said, anyway around, I think the Bengals made the right call with Rivers and I think the draft will go nicely.

It might not work out exactly the way I would like it to, but they have been doing quite well in recent draft.

Hard to question it that much...

Hell, boys, try Indiana. Fortunately I'm not bad but the Mrs. and the kid have been popping Zyrtec and hiding indoors for a month.

In good news for army, Cordy Glenn was in Cincy today. So was Barron.

Oh, don't get me wrong. I want DeCastro.

However, if he's gone, like I expect him to be, Glenn would be one of the OG's I would take as another option.

He's the only other OG I would consider in the first as well.

He's a big, strong, fast, smart, versatile leader that has done well against the best the college ranks can offer.

One other Rivers-related thought: his departure pushes the already bad grade for the 2008 draft down further.

1. Keith Rivers - often injured, didn't make a big impact on the field, now in NY

2. Jerome Simpson - took 3 years to develop, now may have smoked his way out of a job

3. Pat Sims - valuable rotational lineman

3. Andre Caldwell - flashed but never realized his potential, now a Bronco

4. Anthony Collins - solid backup, could start on some teams

5. Jason Shirley - hung around on the PS for a while, now a Panther

6. Corey Lynch - played a bit, got hurt, got cut, now a Buc

6. Matt Sherry - never amounted to anything, out of NFL

7. Angelo Craig - ditto

7. Mario Urrutia - ditto

Hopefully when we look back at 2012 in a few years it will be better than this...
