Updated RB Thread: Bengals Sign Law Firm

Bush just signed in Chicago for 4 years $14 million.

Have the terms for Green-Ellis been revealed yet? It can't be much cheaper than that, can it?

Of that's all Bush was asking for... I'm guessing the Bengals aren't lying. They preferred Green-Ellis.

I haven't seen any numbers yet but Reedy seems to think it will be around $3 million a year.

There's been some talk that the issue with Bush wasn't money but contract length. Bush wanted a 4-year deal, the Bengals would only go 3. Fits with the FO's 2014 paranoia, but I don't know if it's true.

Weighing in - Good pick-up, wanted him over Bush. Was under-used in NE and seemed to get better with experience.

I'm not totally convinced they'll still look at a RB or even a WR in the 1st or 2nd round, instead of a LB, DT/DE, S, CB or OG, but it can't be a bad thing for those hoping they don't go for the typical Mike Brown offensive "skill position" pick on day one.

Maybe they Bengals' are finally joining the rest of the NFL in the RB-by-committee trend that is almost necessary for a variety of reasons these days (and they showed that direction last year as well obviously). Now they don't have someone like Benson who is just a self-centered idiot ultimately.

Wow, what a difference a year makes. This from BJGE and the official site:

"I don't know how it's going to come down," he said. "I'm just going to come in and be the best player I can be and do whatever I can do to help the team win. If they want me to run on the goal line, I'll do that. If they want me to pick up the blitz, I'll pick up the blitz. If they want me to catch it, I'll catch it."

Then when asked about his lack of pass catching out of the backfield in New England:

"There's a difference between not being able to catch and not being thrown to."

Some numbers on the deal finally emerge.

3 years, $9 million is the base. He gets $4 million this year and can earn another $1.6 million in incentives. So total potential value is at least $10.6 million, plus whatever incentives are built into 2013 and 2014.
