HoosierCat
Solid hire. He has experience coaching in the AFCN (Baltimore) too.
ArmyBengal
Yeah, can't really find much to complain about there.I do wonder where they were with Woodson and why they didn't go that route.Next...
volcom69
I actully like this move very much. He did a great job in Baltimore with there d-backs, they were usually ranked very high, and generated 93 turnovers while he was there. He was coaching the jets d-line for the last couple of years, not to mention he was a great player in his day.Im not sure on the Guenther hire though, guess we will see if the LBs improve or not. Spor_tees
Yeah, can't really find much to complain about there.I do wonder where they were with Woodson and why they didn't go that route.Next...Well because they hired Guenther as the LB coach, that opens up assistant DB coach where Woodson could be hired. Scottishbengal
I'm happy with any move that improves and refreshes the coaching. It's one thing have some talent on the playing field but the other half of the coin is getting the best out of 'em .........which is where the coaches should be earning they're corn. I wonder if these moves will impact the draft at all ???
UK Bengal
I'm gonna put a big bet on CB at 17 unless 2 things happen decastro or Richardson are there
ArmyBengal
My concerns lay more with the LB's and that coaching staff than any other position coach. There simply isn't much talent there and Rey is a bonehead. Add to that a new coach i'm not sold on and that looks like issues to me.
ArmyBengal
Ok, so looking at the story about Guenther and the LB corps, there is a little to be taken away. He talks about getting the best LB's on the field regardless. He also talks about how they were actually happy with how Maualuga was able to call the plays (something many thought he was incapable of) and how he thinks Rivers will be coming back as well. While I thought Manny Lawson played well last season, I no longer think they bring him back. Howard is here on a two year deal so he stays at least through 2012. With both Moch and Muckelroy coming back from injury, I can see them going with one of the two of them earning a starting spot at SAM during a camp battle. They bring back Skuta to back up Rey and they have both Howard and Rivers on the other side. I'm not saying as i'm in favor of them standing pat with that idea and if Rey catches a suspension or continues the stupidity (not unlikely) they will need to reinforce the corps. This is just the direction I see them going based upon what we are hearing at this point. Obviously this could be interpreted differently and I hope to hear thoughts, but this is where I am. I don't think they go LB early in the draft minus something else happening between here and there.I also like everything i've heard about Carrier taking over the secondary and he comes in with a little fire about him.Hopefully that translates well with a guy like Nelson, Mays, and Sands. That would be useful.
volcom69
Im not sold on Guenther at all, i hope he proves me wrong, but i think the LBs need a more experienced leader. I dont know much about him, but i hope he gets these guys to play much better. Here i thought the strength of the defense was going to be the LBs, but i guess i was wrong. jjakq27
That position group has been a revolving door forever. They really need a superstar or playmaker to emerge within that group somewhere. Whether that person is already on the roster or not. I don't have much confidence in Rivers or Rey being that guy right now.
ArmyBengal
I can't say as I have much confidence in either of them as well, but what I think is besides the point and the coaches appear to be content with what they will have heading into next season. That could change obviously.
