Spor_tees
Power rankings does one of two things, it either gives bulletin board material, or it can put a ton of pressure on you to not lose to a perceived lesser talented team. I'd rather be the underdog with nothing to lose, instead of a paper champion. If a high ranked team wins its "they only did what they were expected to do," whereas if they lose, "they must not have been as good as we thought they were, what a disappointment!" derekshank
PFT ranks the Bengals 14th this week. Week 1 they were ranked 32nd. 18 spots in 5 weeks? Only the Bills are a bigger surprise... jumping 20 spots in 5 weeks from 24th to 4th.

It may be the first time I've ever seen PFT do something right.
derekshank
PFT keeps bumping the Bengals up in their rankings. Now #12... jumping 20 spots in 6 weeks. They also have them ranked 6th in the AFC (for those not good at math, PFT is essentially saying the Bengals are currently a playoff team). Spor_tees
The Bengals moved up 2 spots during their bye week to 16th in the ESPN rankings. There are still 5 teams with a worse record than the Bengals ranked ahead of them, including Oakland by one spot at 15th.ESPN Power Rankings for Week

There are several teams this year that are surprising along with the Bengals. You have the Bills, the Lions, and maybe most of all the 49ers, playing WELL above expectations.
