Per Yasinskas at ESPN, Bengals are set to spend $90.7 million on players in 2011. Rest of the division:

Cleveland $99.2 million

Baltimore $101.3 million

Super Bowl Losers $116 million

The last cap in '09 was about $130 million.

You know how those cap reports go for the Bengals...

One minute they are 40 million under the cap, with money to burn and then all of a sudden, they are trying to figure out who they have to cut to get in under the cap. I really hate cap talk when it comes to the Bengals. It's painful...

According to ESPN talks have broken off between the owners and players and the issue is how to set the salary cap. Apparently there is about $9billion in revenue and the players want the cap set at 50% of that or $140mill per team. The owners want a $2B exemption and then divide the remaining $7mill at 50% which leads to $109mill per team.

No way in hell the players will go from a $130mill cap in 2009 to a $109mill cap in 2011. Sounds like the owners are really playing hardball here.

If this is where this thing stands, it's plain to see that it's going to take a long time to iron this out. I will say this, the owners aren't going through the trouble to re-open this CBA to only get the same deal as last year. I think we can count on the $130M cap going down in 2011.

Hobson writes that it doesn't look like the Bengals will use the franchise tag on either Ced or J-Joe.

I would have to think that means J-Joe is basically gone. Even with the injury knock he's still a blue-chip CB and those almost never come on the market. Some team will offer him a pile of money so huge it will make even Mikey jealous.

As for Ced, I can see him coming back but it depends on what the Bengals' definition of a "sane" contract is. The rumor mill spit out a number he was supposedly looking for a while back: 3 years, $16 million, which doesn't strike me as unreasonable. But I have no idea if that number is accurate or not.

Well, I would have normally said nobody will give JJoe a huge contract after just an average season where injuries played a role AGAIN, but then again, a team that does not land a CB in the draft and misses on eithe Asomugha or Champ Bailey (if he doesn't retire) might just feel desperate and throw $10 + Million at Joseph thinking he's a bargain at few Mill less than per season than the other 2.

Ridiculous when you think about it. I like Joseph, but not at anywhere near Carson money.....He just doesn't have a big enough impact on the game. His 14 Picks in 5 seasons don't put him in the category of "Playmaker", and he isn't a "Shut Down" guy either, so he's just a solid CB, and you CANNOT tie up that much of your Cap Space on just a "Solid" player.
