HairOnFire
Chad has probably figured out that he isn't going to make $6 million in 2011 unless the Bengals pick up his option. And it sounds increasingly like the Bengals are going to pay him his $3.5 million to go away. Money well spent. And speaking of that, hello again, AJ Green. He got into a twitter hissy earlier today after Marvin knocked him for being "his usual mopey self" and accused the team of badmouthing him for getting hurt. Chad is simply coming to grips with the fact that he's finally lost the support of almost all of his enablers. Sadly, he'll only realize he's completely tapped out when he loses you. As for Marvin, it seems a little late for candor, but I welcome it anyway. Both men should be making their last appearance as Bengals before a home crowd. My advice for the locals is to bring plenty of 85 jerseys for burning, throwing, and discarding.

ArmyBengal
Maybe i'm in the minority here, but I'd like to see Benson come back next year.If not, that will make a rather large hole in the RB department. Why didn't we take LeGarrette Blount in the late rounds again ?? COB
Yes, Benson is a yes for me. I like his running style and his rather blue collar personality. He needs to be reasonable, though.
HairOnFire
Put me in the camp that would love Benson to stay, but understands and respects why he wouldn't want to if Bratkowski isn't fired. And for all I know he may have lost as much respect for Lewis as I have and may not want to play for him any longer should Lewis survive. Nutshelled, he'll have options and it's unlikely remaining with this team will rank highest.
jjakq27
Adam Schefter was on ESPN earlier and he showed a tweet from "PePe" wondering if they will pick up his $6M option. Schefter said it was the second one from him in that vein.Funny how things have changed. A couple of years ago he couldn't wait to get out of here. Now he's practically begging to stay.Chad has probably figured out that he isn't going to make $6 million in 2011 unless the Bengals pick up his option. And it sounds increasingly like the Bengals are going to pay him his $3.5 million to go away. He got into a twitter hissy earlier today after Marvin knocked him for being "his usual mopey self" and accused the team of badmouthing him for getting hurt. Why would they still owe him $3.5M? I thought the option is for $6M. Is the 3.5 the "no-option" price?

As I understand it, he gets a $3.5 million "parting gift" if the Bengals don't pony up $2.5 million (for a total of $6 million) to keep him for one more year. The point is to create a financial incentive for both sides to extend the deal; if they don't, the player loses a chunk of the money he expects to get, while the team pays something for nothing. HairOnFire
I'm not sure what to make of this one. Most likely it's either one more example of pointless roster jostling or a yet another warning shot fired across Chase Coffman's bow. Perhaps both. #Bengals claim TE Garrett Mills off waivers from the Eagles. Mills is a 5th-year player from Tulsa.

jjakq27
[i]http://cincinnati.com/blogs/bengals/2010/12/22/tight-end-claimed-on-waivers/From the Bengals today: The Bengals today acquired TE Garrett Mills on waivers from the Philadelphia Eagles. Mills (6-1, 235; Tulsa) is a fifth-year NFL player. He played in seven games for the Eagles this season, with three starts, and had two receptions for 19 yards. He opened 2010 with Minnesota and was released on Sept. 4. He was signed Sept. 6 to Philadelphia’s practice squad and signed Sept. 14 to the Eagles roster. He entered the NFL in 2006 as a fourth-round draft choice of New England. He first played in 2007, for Minnesota, and he also was with the Vikings in 2008 and 2009. He has played in 16 career games, with three starts, and has nine catches for 110 yards. Additional note: The Bengals weren’t the only team to put in a claim for Mills. Cleveland and Minnesota also placed claims to acquire Mills but the Bengals by virtue of their 3-11 record were awarded the tight end ahead of the Browns (5-9) and Vikings (5-9). HairOnFire
Well, thanks everyone for the added info, but I'm not sure any of it helps to explain the move. Mills certainly fits the now familiar profile of hybrid TE/FB but the Bengals don't lack for those types already, and none of the incumbents get more than a handful of snaps as it is. In fact, now that the Bengals have called up a true FB the hybrids have had their role reduced, not expanded. Plus, there doesn't seem to be any playing time available at either TE role, from blocker to move. Remarkably, Reggie Kelly has gotten more balls thrown his way in the last two weeks than the rest of the season combined, to no great shakes, and Gresham plays heavy snaps regardless of receiving opportunities. As for Coffman, he's barely been bloodied as a blocker and still can't buy a look as a pass catcher. Special teams? Maybe, but why not look at a position where you might need real help next season(S, LB, RB)instead of adding another hybrid TE/FB? Add it all up and factor in just two weeks remaining in the season I can't envision this guy being activated in either game. [shrug] Tis the season, I guess. Trevor
Very stupid move imo,.. we now have like three fb's and three TE's. and what?? 3 safeties????? wtheck marvin!!!!!!!!!!
cincyhokie
If there's a bright side to this it's that this move was made looking into next year. There was interest from other teams so this guy may not be a dud.And let's face it, what is bringing in more fodder at safety going to do? Get this team to 5-11? Yay. He played in 11 games this year with nine rushes for 61 yards (6.8) and 20 receptions for 137 yards. It was a tough year for Leonard who suffered a bad foot injury in the Hall of Fame Game against Dallas and didn’t return until the Week 3 game at Carolina. To fill Leonard’s spot, the team claimed rookie CB David Pender on waivers from the Colts. Pender (6-0, 180; Purdue) played in three games, logging two tackles. He was with the Eagles in preseason and was waived on Sept. 5. He was on Baltimore’s practice squad from Sept. 8-21, and was signed Nov. 10 to the Indianapolis practice squad. The Colts signed him to their roster on Dec. 8.

jjakq27
No need to start a new thread but Chad will not be making the trip to Baltimore for Sunday's game.http://www.bengals.c...3d-eedc75646e09If Sunday is wide receiver Chad Ochocinco's last game as a Bengal, he'll be watching it back in Cincinnati. The Ocho said before practice Thursday he's not making the trip to Baltimore and is going to stay behind to get treatment for the bone spurs in his ankle. He's headed to Madrid and London Jan. 5 to watch some soccer and plans to have Bengals doctor Angelo Colosimo do the arthroscopic surgery some time before he heads to Dallas for the Feb. 6 Super Bowl. COB
Outstanding Hair, that is good stuff there. Of course Chad will go to the Super Bowl to attention whore himself into an even deeper state of self-delusion than that in which he normally abides. What could anyone possibly find interesting about Chad? I seriously don't get it.
