Dallas released SS Pat Watkins.

I thought this guy was talented and never got a clean shot in Dallas. We need safeties, and this guy could have some familiarity with Zimmmer? No sure if he was there when Watkins was drafted.

Could be an interesting option.

Hey there we go :P since Dallas likes rip on us for Turning their castaways in to studs...He was Drafted under Zimmer in his final year for the Cowboys (2006=cowboys 2007=falcons 2008/9 bengals)

PS,won't be surprised if they give him a sniff seems like a zimmer "junky yard" type player haha

As always, if Zimmer feels fit to bring him in for a look see, I certainly wouldn't complain in the least.

Can he be any worse than what we currently are trying to make work as a last option for safety ??

Marvin White sure didn't make any friends with Marvin in the Bills game.

Shirley is out, who are the next one if the Bengals ink unsigned draft?

I can't say as I understand what you are asking.

Shirley was waiver over a month ago and the Bengals have other players that are stepping into the role of obscure o-lineman quite nicely.

While Purify has developed and always given great effort, I simply never viewed him as good enough to crack this roster.

Not as a WR and not as a special teamer either. Or rather, he's worthy as a special teamer but he isn't needed anymore....and there's a ton of competition for so-called extra roster spots.

Speaking of which.....I noted the coaching staff admits they've considered the idea of not carrying a true FB on the roster, and determined it's a very doable thing. Yeah, they didn't say they'd do it, but I've been pimping that one for awhile now, mostly because Vakapuna! hasn't answered the bell, but also because of the things it allows you to do at other positions. (Too many to mention.)

Free agent S Pat Watkins visited the Bengals Wednesday. He was recently released by the Cowboys

Wouldnt mind him, i think they will wait to see if anybody else is out there after Saturday. They are so thin at this postion so i think they will bring in someone.

I dont think after the Bills game they were to impressed with any of the Safties

at this late point, I think it'd be best to wait for final cuts and pick up a veteran safety who has played in this kind of defense and can pick it up quickly

At the very very least - don't replace one injured guy with another injured guy - Watkins was released in part due to injuries during the preseason.

Gimme a solid unspectacular DURABLE guy (preferably one that plays special teams too) over a beat up star

Kris Brown missed a s**t-ton of field goals late to cost Houston games and ulitimately the playoffs last year.

No thank you.

I'm not necessarily in favor of signing Brown, mind you, but I see it as an option. Over 12 years he's never missed a game, he's had an excellent career (77.3% FG), last season's misses notwithstanding. Apparently he hasn't missed a kick yet in the preseason.

Anyways, if not Kris Brown, Billy Cundiff may turn out to be another veteran option. It's something I hope they consider since I'm not 100% sold on Nuge or Raynor.

According to a couple of recent tweets by Cosby, his spot on the team has been secured.

Now to see how the battle between Briscoe and Simpson plays out.

Pulling for Simpson myself...

Good news to see him retained. His special teams play is too valuable to let go.

My favorite thing about Nugent? FG range is closer to the 40 yardline... where with Graham it had to be inside the 30 to have a chance.

Shades of Doug Pelfrey?

That a kicker like Nugent gives you better options when the clock is running out is a given. Yet to be determined is if Lewis aggressively attempts more FGA's from distance under normal game conditions. Because the kicking no-mans land between a punt that won't net very much and a FGA that is hopelessly out of range COULD get a bit smaller.
