walzav29
The good news is he isn't signed long term. I am interested to see if his agent approached the Bengals on an extension after the assault. OK. How long is he out? Is Bernard the starter? ShulaSteakhouse
Play with fire enough times and you get burned...Bengals.I assume he'll likely be suspended regardless of outcome. Yay.They shouldn't sign him to a long term deal any ways until after the season, tag him if you have to.I guess we can hope for a short suspension of 1-3 games, but who really knows.Weird that no one found out about this, or reported it, until almost two months later. Wraith
The good news is that Scott or Leonard could carry the load for the 4 games or so that he is out and they have proven pretty effective, it sounded like a simple bar fight but the question is...What was Cedric Benson doing in a bar, isn't he on probation from his previous alcohol related offense? derekshank
LenDale White? That would certainly be the Bengals MO, huh? I'm sure they'll consider giving him LJ's role if Benson misses more than a game or two.I expect Benson to get a 4 game suspension... and now I expect the Bengals to be able to get him for another year or two at a bargain price. In the words of Carson Palmer, "It is what it is." GoBengals!
Oh crap!... Just what this team needed another high profile arrest and suspension. Let's hope the other 'discount' players with a criminal past don't act up... No more than 2 games Goddell (zero would be nice)... Please! HairOnFire
Shhhhhhh no one tell Hair It's Bernard Scott you shouldn't tell...because he'd probably react to the news, and the opportunity it brings, by immediately pulling, dinging, or tweaking something. As for Benson himself, it's very disappointing news that could have plenty of short and long term impact.....or none at all.
Wraith
I think your kidding yourself if you think Goddell is going to overlook Benson in a bar late at night given his history with Alcohol and given his recent position with Roethlisberger. I think you can count on a 4 game suspension unless Benson did not report the incident and then you could be talking about a half a year. ArmyBengal
Without going to look myself, does anyone ACTUALLY know what the limitations placed upon Benson were/are ??If he failed to report this incident to the NFL, this could get ugly for him very quick. If he did what he was suppose to do after getting into trouble, I don't think this will be more than a game or maybe two. If not, it will be longer. I can't believe that a suspension isn't in the cards here...just being a realist.
ArmyBengal
The only thing I've been able to find is that Benson was cleared of all charges from his days with the Bears and there was no suspension. With that being the case I guess it depends on how his actions are viewed here. There is a trend here with Benson and alcohol, but that's not to say he has a problem, rather it's always part of the equation when he has gotten into trouble.I think Godell may look at his situation and tell him he has a pattern going here and they have to address it. Call it two games.

Why not?He is no chris johnson (1), steven jackson(2) ( who has 1 more good year IMO) He is the better version of adrian peterson (5) IMO because he doesnt fumble, MJD(3), Benson is unbelievably awesome. This may put a damper on things, but if he plays all season then he will be a probowler no doubt. He is # 4 in the league IMO

I'm not kidding myself because I'm not overlooking the possibility of a suspension. I'm simply acknowledging how little is currently known.....as well as how uneven Goodell has been when handing out punishment. For example, was multiple offender Joey Porter suspended after his videotaped assault of Levi Jones?
BengalPimp
Here's my thinking....Whether the suspension is 2 or 4 games, it really doesn't matter, as the first 2 games is where we would REALLY need Benson. First 4 games are:@ Patriotsvs Ravens@ Carolina@ ClevelandWe need him against the Patriots and Ravens....Panthers and Browns, Scott should do just fine.I think the charges will eventually get dropped, and Benson will settle somehow, but unfortunately, that won't factor too much in Goodell's decision. Sucks if he gets a suspension for as long as a Rapist like Roethlisberger, but I do understand he has been in trouble before.Well......If Brat and his "Revamped" playbook can't gameplan for these first few games without Benson....I'm starting a new FIRE BRAT thread.I will have to consult my Magic 8 Ball to see how well Carson will do in the first few games (I am expecting much more passing now).....To Be Continued..... walzav29
This is the reason I feel Marvin will not be back. I now see the danger in signing questionable guys. I like them for depth, but you just can't rely on these guys. Let him play out the year after his suspension and then draft a rb.
