derekshank
It'll depend on the situation. Jones is said to be having trouble with T.O. because of his size. When facing a bigger, more physical pass catcher, Trent will probably go in. When facing a smaller quicker type, Jones will go in (if he's playing as well as Chad claims). The assumption that Jones will face Welker assumes that Edelman will be a starter? I'd be pretty happy with that. Hall shuts down Edelman, JJoe gets safety help with Moss, and Welker only plays in 3WR packages? Yeah... I'd be real happy with that.Nah,.. I think hall will cover moss,.. JJo will get tory holt and shut him DOWN lol, pac vs welker or edelman cuz they're fairl similar...Either way... Moss should get double coverage, because their weapons are suspect after him.As far as who the #2 will be, last I heard Holt was in danger of being cut. Logan Mankins is still refusing to do a deal and demanding a trade, and Nick Kaczur, who the Pats were counting on to replace him, suffered a back injury a day or two ago and may now miss the whole season. So NE could be looking at the same kind of o-line train wreck we enjoyed so much back in 2008.

membengal
The Pats are more than welcome to push the medical marvel of Welker's recovery as fast as they are, as far as I am concerned. I am skeptical over just how effective he will be, and for how long, if he tries to go full speed for game one.

I am skeptical over just how effective he will be, and for how long, if he tries to go full speed for game one.Not having Welker would be a huge blow to the Pats passing game.I was looking at the ridiculous list of Jerry Rice's NFL records and I saw that there are only 3 players in NFL history to have at least 108 catches in 3 seasons. Jerry Rice, Marvin Harrison, and Wes Welker. Rice and Welker are the only two players to ever do it in consecutive seasons. That is damn elite company.I heard an interview with Welker on the radio yesterday. The interviewer asked "Do you think you'll be ready to play week 1 against the Bengals?" His answer was, "I don't know. That is a goal I have my eyes set on, but we'll just have to wait and see how the knee responds."That doesn't sound confident. I'll be surprised if he plays significant time and shocked if he's effective. That's a really tough break for the Pats. If Welker can't play at all, Edelman becomes their #2, with either old man Torry Holt or rookie Taylor Price as the #3. That's a staggering drop-off in talent. The Pats will be forced to rely on a couple of rookie TEs to pick up the slack. Without Welker, their offense looks pretty ordinary. The Pats passing game vs. the Bengals secondary looks to highly favor Cincy on paper. But it's Brady/Belichick in week 1, so it should still be a good barometer for how good the Bengals secondary can be against elite QBs.
