Here's the write up:

The Bengals on Friday signed wide receiver Dezmon Briscoe of Kansas, the clubs sixth-round choice (191st overall) in the 2010 draft.

In three seasons (2007-09) at Kansas, Briscoe became the schools all-time leader in receiving yards (3240), TD catches (31) and 100-yard receiving games (14). He ranks second in KU annals for total receptions (219).

Briscoe is the first of Cincinnatis 2010 draft selections to sign his contract

I'll go ahead and pin this for future signings...

Briscoe agrees to terms

Posted by jreedy June 25th, 2010, 12:28 pm

The Bengals have not officially announced it yet, but sixth-round pick Dez Briscoe has agreed to terms on a four-year deal likely worth $1.892 million ($1.79 million base, $102,000 signing bonus). He is the first of the nine draftees to sign.

The former University of Kansas receiver was limited for most of the offseason workouts due to injury but did take part in the last week of OTAs and minicamp. During his career with the Jayhawks, Briscoe had 219 receptions for 3,240 yards and 31 touchdowns. He was also a first-team All-Big 12 selection but questions off the field (he was arrested for shoplifting in 2007 and was suspended before the 2009 opener for an unspecified infraction) caused his draft prospects to tumble to the late rounds. Mel Kiper had him rated as one of the top 10 receivers in the Class of 2010 before the draft.

Briscoe is expected to vie for one of the final two spots at receiver. According to astute draft signings watch Brian McIntyre of Mac’s Football Blog, Briscoe is the 100th draft choice out of this year’s class to sign.

And for those keeping score, that leaves the roster at 83 with 75 signed.

Well, nice to see another one, but they need to keep this going. For once, I would like to see them be a little more proactive when it comes to their first rounder. Gresham is going to be big for them and they need to get it done. I'm really looking forward to see what Atkins can do as a part of the DT rotation. Maybe help with some pass rush up the middle as well.

Here is my concern. We are 10 days away from the start of Training Camp (July 29th) and we don't have our top 4 picks signed yet. I can understand that no 1st Rd pick has signed yet, and only 1 2nd has (Vlad Ducasse Jets) but we havent signed EITHER of our 3rd Rd Picks !!!!!!!!!!

There is no excuse why Shipley and even Ghee aren't signed.

Shipley's deal should be a piece of cake. He was the #84 pick. The #83 pick and #86 pick have both signed, and their contracts are very similar and look like this:

  • #83 DT Corey Peters (Falcons) 4-yrs $2.55 mill with a $767k Signing Bonus
  • #86 DE Daniel Te'o-Nesheim (Eagles) 4-yrs $2.53 mill $741k Signing Bonus
I'm no GM, but I'd say a 4-yr $2.54 mill with a Signing Bonus of $755-$760k should get it done.

As for Ghee, he was the #96 pick, and the #97 signed, but not the 5 in front of him before #90, but even so, the contracts between #90 and #97 aren't that different:

  • #90 WR Taylor Price 4-yrs $2.494 mill $704k Signing Bonus
  • #97 LB Rennie Curran 4-yrs $2,43 mill $642k Signing Bonus

Give Ghee a little more than the #97 (already slotted) and get his ass signed too.

C'mon

Source: Another pick in fold

By GEOFF HOBSON

A league source said Tuesday that the Bengals have a reached a four-year agreement with seventh-rounder Reggie Stephens, a center from Iowa State. Stephens becomes the fourth of nine draft picks to reach a deal, which he’s expected to sign later in the week. Also in the fold are sixth-rounder Dez Briscoe, fifth-rounder Otis Hudson and fourth-rounder Geno Atkins. The Bengals don’t comment on contracts until they are signed.

Marvin was on one of the local radio stations this morning and was asked about his concerns with playing the extra game in the preseason. He mentioned that he lobbied hard for the Bengals to get a chance at the HoF Game since it is basically held in Paul Brown's hometown. The added benefit of the extra game is that they have roughly 20 players from the last 2 drafts that will need playing time and this is a perfect opportunity to do so.

Re: the pace of 1st rounds signings, none have signed, not even the first overall. It may have something to do with the looming labor impasse. Head of the players' assoc was on ESPN Mike & Mike yesterday and muttered "collusion". I don't think so, but something is afoot that may slow signings. So I am not expecting our TE in on time. I wouldn't usually, and it sounds like it would be a surprise in these circumstances.

I do hope they get Dunlop in on time, at the least.

Re: the pace of 1st rounds signings, none have signed, not even the first overall.

Well, that didn't take long, did it?

Somewhere, Mikey is smiling. If the reported numbers are accurate, Bryant just agreed to a deal that pays him significantly less overall than what Atlanta Falcons DT Peria Jerry got at the same slot (24) last year, which was a five-year deal worth $13.25 million, with $7.55 million guaranteed.

The guy selected last year in TE Jermaine Gresham's spot, Cleveland Browns C Alex Mack, got a $15 million package with $8.3 million in guaranteed coin.

We all know that the only important number is the guaranteed money, and in that category Bryant got nearly $1 million more. But the fact that the overall value is a million and a half less is just the kind of scenario I dread. Slotting Jermaine based on last year and this deal, he should get something like $13.4 million overall, with about $9.3 million guaranteed. The Bengals front office will no doubt seize on the lower overall number, and if Gresham's representation digs in, we could be back to holdout-land.

Maybe I'm just borrowing trouble and it's just that the Great Recession has even cut into the paydays of first-round NFL draft picks.

From Joe Reedy to Kirk, from Kirk to me, and now from me to you.

Bengals And Cornerback Brandon Ghee Agree To Four-Year Deal

by Josh Kirkendall on Jul 23, 2010 11:13

Five down. Four to go.

That's the word from The Enquirer's Joe Reedy who tweets "Third-round pick Brandon Ghee has agreed to terms, making him the fifth #bengals draft pick signed." According to Aaron Wilson, the deal will last the typical four years (as with most non-first round rookie contracts are). Wilson continues that the "the deal includes the standard base salaries of $320,000, $405,000, $490,000, $575,000" (or $1.79 million) with the place he's slotted to provide a signing bonus that will "significantly boost the maximum value of the contract."

Brandon Ghee is the newest cornerback that the Bengals drafted giving them a pretty talented collection heading into Training Camp, starting with Leon Hall and Johnathan Joseph, Adam Jones and Morgan Trent. Last year the Bengals took five cornerbacks into the regular season; so you can largely expect that this roster of cornerbacks will be your 2010 cornerback squad -- unless of course they decide to transition a corner or two as a safety allowing guys like David Jones and Johnny Sears a chance.

UPDATE: Joe Reedy writes that Ghee's deal is worth $2.438 million. If you subtract his base salary ($1.79 million), you get a $648,000 signing bonus.

Three days till camp starts. Can they get the signings done? I am starting to worry, but then again shouldn't we be used to this?

Last year Andre didn't sign until just before their last preseason game. This year, nobody seems to be in a hurry to sign their 1st rounders.

I expect us to see most of the picks signed in the next few days. As for Gresham, I'll be pleased as punch if he gets signed in time for him to play in a single preseason game. Seeing him in training camp at all doesn't seem very likely to me.

Glad to see his deal get done, now lets get the rest of them in. I wonder if Gresham will be in on time now that Dez signed

I gotta believe that it will have some impact on most of the guys around him, especially Gresham. I know the Bengals will employ their usual tactics but I hope Gresham and his agent take a realistic approach too. Other than Tebow and McCoy (apologies to Sam Bradford), Bryant was the most talked about player in the draft. He also went to a bigger market and to an owner that is eager to spend his money so the Bryant contract kinda boxes Gresham in. This is definitely not a Darius Heyward-Bay vs. Andre Smith thing like last year either.

It's time to get this done and have this guy in here for a full camp.
