Safe at Safety

I will feel pretty comfortable at safety when its crocker and williams in the game. Once Ndukwe comes in I am worried. The guy was just not good at all.

Ndukwe at first didn't bother me though you could tell that was a loss of Swagger & play when Roy went down,It wasn't until the end of the year and the Defense was banged up that his play made me wanna pull my hair out at times..Nelson on the other never felt like he looked like a NFL starter and we alrdy had a special teams safety so unless he improves alot I really hope we get hamlin

Am I the only one who's still more worried about the Dline than S?

Yep.

Yeah, I think so.

Hey, wouldn't be the first time I was the weirdo. But I will say, I saw a disconcerting lack of QB pressure, and a tendency for our middle to get gashed by running backs. Might be two things that helped our safeties look bad. Just sayin'.

I believe you are going to like Gino Atkins. He will get the push up the middle and make our DEs more effective. Gino is super quick.

Looks to me like we tried to address the Dline in the draft.

I still am worried about how effective our S are going to be.

I don't disagree there. The D-Line needs to get more pressure on the QB.

But last year the best pass rusher was on the IR very early in the season. He'll be back, plus, they added two more pass-rushing D-Linemen in the draft.

Safety is pretty much the same as it ever was.

True. I'm more worried about DT. I forgot about the combined effect of getting Odom back + Dunlap. But DT I'm worried about.

Safety? I'm concerned...but I guess after seeing how bad it was 5 years ago where it sunk the entire team, I'm glass-half-full.

Well DT we added Little freak Geno Atkins to help out on pass rush...Sims,Peko & Tank did fine vs the run and we'll still have Odom,Fanene & maybe Dunlap? kicking inside to help on passing downs....Well It's not sexist Idea hopefully zimmer will make it work.

Zimmer made the comment that one of the things they wanted to address in the draft was the interior pass rush, and that one of the main reasons they liked Dunlap was because he was able to help in that regard.

Bring back Odom who excelled in that role, and add Dunlap and Atkins, and who knows?

Not saying it'll be the best in the NFL, but it's not like they ignored the issue... Unlike Safety.

Ignore it they did, but I'll say this - if I had to go scrounging for depth late at a position, it seems like S can be done. And while I'm a frequent Mikey-basher, at least he tried to trade up for Mays - though it seems perhaps he should have offered more or moved more quickly.

Anyway, by all means our safety corps isn't giving me a chubby or anything, but it just seems like it's been a lot worse. And I'm still of the opinion that Tank sucks and Sims isn't quite starter quality at DT. Just sayin', it worries me a bit more. At least at the starter level, that is. I'll admit I'm askeered of the backups at S. They sort of can't tackle.

Gibril Wilson could be a Bengal, too

Posted by Mike Florio on May 4, 2010 3:54 PM ET

As it turns out, Pacman Jones may not be the only new addition in Cincinnati today.

Per the same source that told us about Pacman becoming a Bengal, veteran safety Gibril Wilson could be signing with the team, too.

We're in the process of tracking down. Others presumably are, too. (If they already weren't, they are now.)

Stay tuned.

UPDATE: A source with knowledge of the situation tell us than an agreement with Wilson has not yet been reached. However, the source estimates the chances of Wilson signing with the team as greater than 50 percent.

Wilson a Bengal...

Very smart signing.

Will be interesting to see who starts, and/if when Roy gets hurt again who will be on the field.

I am good with this signing. His coverage isn't great, but it's good enough. Keep in mind the dude has averaged 105.2 Tackles over the past 5 seasons.

He's a decent Safety, the only reason he got cut the past 2 offseasons, is that teams like the Raiders and Dolphins insisted on signing him to HUGE contracts.

We're getting him for cheap.

I couldn't give a s**t about Pacman, but I wanted Wilson really badly, and yeah....I'm saying that even though I don't think he's very good.

Thank you for the crumb, sir.

I would have really preferred Hamlin. But I pretty much knew that wasn't going to happen.

I thought they were going to sign C.C. Brown, who is awful. Wilson represents a happy medium between the talents of Hamlin and Brown.

So, I respond to this news with 3 letters:

Meh.

M-E-H

Meh.

Rumored to be 700k plus incentives. That's peanuts.

Or if you as I prefer, crumbs.

Fixed. Just for accuracy. ;)

Sure.

Let the permanent record now show that when given a choice about how best to upgrade the Bengals defense you preferred peanuts over crumbs.

I am actually pretty damn happy with the Gibril signing. I don't see him as any more "crumbs" than, say, Crocker was. A vet who can play. Fine by me.

Veteran depth at a spot that hurt us late last year due to lack of depth after some injuries. I like it. It isnt a big impact move, unless one of the S ahead of him on the roster go down with a season ending injury early.

No, let the permanent record show that I believe that the Bengals defense has been sufficiently upgraded for the 2010 season. It does not require the level of upgrade you believe necessary. The Bengals are good to go.

In short, I believe you are wrong. As to who is right, we will find out starting in September.
