Kazkal
I Smell Championship,Hopefully he is cut before the season starts :| still can't believe they resigned him over foschi...Dan must be on his knees for someone :|
HairOnFire
I've said it everytime the subject comes up. If Reggie Kelly is out of the lineup Daniel Coats iimmediately becomes the best blocking TE on the team.

ShulaSteakhouse
More minimal effort put forth by the crack personnel people at PBS.
HairOnFire
I hear ya' Kaz and I should make it clear...I'm not standing on the table for Coats. But we are a running team and he's the best blocking TE on the team. Look at it this way. Right now the Bengals TE situation is exactly the same as it was the moment Kelly and Utecht went down with one critical exception. That being, they now have more time and more reasonable opportunities avaliable to look for potential upgrades. But without any of those upgrades firmly locked down Coats is today exactly what he was then. The best of a very bad lot. Nobody is going to love this move, including me. The guy simply can't catch the ball or hold on to it afterwards. But by the same token I don't hate it. And the reason I don't hate it is due to the way Coats blocks....and the way Benson runs. HairOnFire
More minimal effort put forth by the crack personnel people at PBS. Well what did you expect them to do? Draft Gresham today...weeks before the actual draft? Idiot.

Stripes
This is not a logical place to complain, Bengals fans. Does anyone really think the front office views this move as the one that will ensure numerous victories next year? I mean good freaking grief. This is barely even news. ArmyBengal
Am I happy about having to think about Coats being on the team this coming season ?? No.Then again, there's nothing saying this move ensures he's on the team this coming season.I don't like him, but this hardly concerns me and if (see WHEN) the Bengals draft a TE Coats will quickly become a non-factor. Dadraftnick
If Coats is on the Opening Day Roster we are in bad shape.I hope he is nothing more than camp fodder.

I never thought you did just wanted get out there that IMO his blocking skills are very suspect...I just wished he wasn't on the roster because then I know there was zero chance of him making final roster...but now with the right amount of injurys he could be a bengal again >_<
HairOnFire
...just wanted get out there that IMO his blocking skills are very suspect... Then we disagree, respectfully, because I'm satisfied with Coats as a blocker. ...I just wished he wasn't on the roster because then I know there was zero chance of him making final roster... It's reported to be a 1 year veteran minimum contract....hardly worthy of the type of teeth gnashing many Bengal fans are engaging in. ...but now with the right amount of injurys he could be a bengal again >_< Well, with the right amount of injuries I'll probably want him back...just as I did last season. Sea Ray
What was the risk in re-signing Foschi? I don't understand why they let him walk so soon
HairOnFire
What was the risk in re-signing Foschi? I don't understand why they let him walk so soon Foschi hasn't walked. Yet. As someone explained to me, offering the lowest tender to Foschi AND Coats dictates the Bengals pay them nearly twice as much as the Bengals feel they're worth. So neither were tendered, but both are free to return if they'll accept a veteran minimum contract. Coats just did exactly that, and Foschi may do so as well. kevnz
Wow, if "Hand of Stone" can get a deal I think I'm gonna try out for the team. What a joke.
Kazkal
Foschi is being allowed to see if another team is interested in him if not sure sign for league minimum.

blueridge
Just when you think Coats is finally gone....But,seriously, what are the odds that he will still be around come September? He's just a TE body. The significance of this signing, for me, is that it wasn't Reggie Kelly. Kelly must be anything but close to getting back on the field. wpeldios
Lets all say it now, Championship!!!Seriously the guy sucks and I hope he doesn't make the team but it doesn't come any more low risk than the league minimum.

I'd say bring him in at the minimum and if he doesn't make the team then send him on his way. What's the risk?
