WHO THINKS ITS A GOOD MOVE TO SIGN GILDON?

BENGALTHEM

My bet is no fourth team is going to appear, and none of the three teams in the alleged mix have any reason to step up. No one actually needs Gildon. He might get some kind of kicker as a face-saver, an extra $50k on the signing bonus or something like that, but the price is not going up significantly.

You're proly right on about the price.

But...the Pack and Bills are playoff caliber. Both teams might see Gildon as a nice piece to their puzzle. He would fill a need for both teams, but likely won't start for either.

Still, I'm going to say his cap hit when he signs will be $1.25 mil. Mainly because I want to see him sign as high as possible for the longshot chance the Bills will cut Sam Adams to get Gildon.

Personally, I think that he will go to Buff or GB before us, precisely because, as you say, they're playoff-caliber. The Bengals might make the postseason, but any aging vet has to feel uneasy coming to a team full of young'uns with a rookie QB set to start. If he's looking for one last shot at glory his chances are better with the Bills or Packers (And that isn't meant as a slam against my own team.)

If Buff cuts Adams I would be stunned. I'd love it and would hope the Bengals would chase him, but I really don't see it happening.

Whoa, what's with all this talk of the Bills??? Playoffs and not us? What the hell? I distincly recall them losing more games than us despite having the #2 D in the league. They may very well be starting a true rookie before the end of the year are trying to brake in a new head coach, we are in a much better postion to make the playoffs than the Bills are.

All the Bills have to do to get into the playoffs is keep things going on D -- which shouldn't be too hard considering the only change was Winfield for Vincent -- and get the offense up from abysmal to moderately awful. They were 30th in the league on offense last year; get the 25 and they'll win more than they lose with a top D. They got o-line help, went WR to try to replace Price in the 1st round, and Losman won't see a snap unless there's an injury or it's week 12 and they're already out of it.

On the Bengals' part, they have to keep up the 13th-ranked offense even tho we've switched from Kitna (who had a career year last year) to the untested Palmer. And to get to the postseason we have to improve significantly on defense, especially against the run, and nothing that we've done gives me any confidence that's the case. Don't get me wrong, I don't expect the Bengals to crash and the Bills to soar; frankly, I don't expect either team to make the postseason. But if I had to bet money one way or another, right now I'd have to bet on the Bills.

Come on. Winfield is a huge loss in comparison to getting Vincent. Plus they are implementing a new O that will try to revolve around the gimmick plays that Murlarcky trys to use but doesn't have the players for. Their O will be just as bad or even worse this year. And injury for Bledsoe? The statue? His oline is shackey enough and play against enough top d lines that he's gonna get hit, he's gonna get hit hard. Rookie First round WR's almost never do anything the first year they play.

Bengals-Bills ought to be a good one in December outside the way it should be.

That might just decide who is a playoff team.

Bledsoe's got to be about on his last gasp but his QB coach might just help him get through this year.

As far as Gildon goes, he still seems like he'd help whoever he signs with. If it turns out to be the Bengals, maybe that'll move Clemons into the DT rotation some. Plus, it could prove to be more than just a luxury to have a better Hardy back-up. Even with the Clemons cap increase, Gildon could be covered with a couple cuts.
