HairOnFire Posted February 13, 2010 Report Posted February 13, 2010 A poster on GoBengals just claimed he heard a radio blurb about Andre Smith needing additional surgery on his foot. Rehab was said to take 8 weeks. I can't find anything to confirm so as always, take it FWIW. Edit: Confirmation found at 1530Homer website. Quote
HoosierCat Posted February 13, 2010 Report Posted February 13, 2010 Well, since the season doesn't start until September, I don't see it as a problem. If true, good on Smith for getting it taken care of now. Quote
BengalPimp Posted February 13, 2010 Report Posted February 13, 2010 I haven't heard anything about it, but if it has to happen, Right Now is the perfect time to have the surgery....Plenty of time to recover before OTA's and training camp. Quote
gregstephens Posted February 13, 2010 Report Posted February 13, 2010 I'm assuming I'm in the minority that still finds it concerning that the man broke his foot as a result of his own body weight? Quote

If true, good on Smith for getting it taken care of now. It's worrying to me because stress fracture type injuries on big men tend to have a tendency to never knit quite right. Tend to see it more often with big guys in basketball, but same idea. The fact that it's needing further work is somewhat ominous.Still, as you say, better to attend to it now - especially since he was probably unlikely to leave the couch during March anyway. ;P Quote

We should establish some sort of foundation in its honor for couches worldwide whose lives are shortened by cause of obesity. Quote

I am as well. Is this the same foot issue he was having from the beginning of the year?My concern is the 8 weeks he will be sitting around....eating everything in sight....while waiting for his foot to heal up. I'm saying he can't play football when he is constantly injured because of his weight. He suffered this stress fracture several months ago. It apparently didn't heal, so now he needs surgery. If he doesn't add even more weight in the two-three months he'll be off, he still needs to lose weight to make the chances of reinjury lessen. Otherwise, Dumbo tries to lumber out to training camp carrying 355-plus and play on that foot, his future does not look real bright.Hence, another lost first rounder unless Jenny Craig, Jarrod from Subway, or the Adkins Diet are in our man's future. Also, playing in the SEC is not the NFL. He can't just lumber out there and dominate, right after getting up from the buffet, the way he did in college. Anyways, just sayin. Quote
redsbengalsbucks Posted February 14, 2010 Report Posted February 14, 2010 So far it is all speculation as to what the surgery is for. It very well could be a routine cleaning up of some scar tissue from some other injury in the past. It also could be what everyone here assumes it is and the problem from his rookie season did not heal correctly. Hopefully since he is getting it done now, he will rehab well and be ready to impress at camp. It is time for a Cinci 1st round pick to live up to it. Quote

We blew it not picking Oher.I dont see that, even with bad luck and not living up to his hype, he will still be an average NFL O-lineman. He was rated the #1 pick for much of his senior year, because of his play and only fell because of some stupid decisions. Give him a chance next season and you will see a very good player, nowhere near a bust. Oher is the most overated pick from last year, because of the media hype surrounding the movie about his life. He had an average rookie season, nothing outstanding. Quote
