COB
Has anyone heard an explanation for Leon Hall's coverage on that last pass that put SD in field goal range? It seemed pretty obvious that you play outside, let the receiver catch it inside and tackle him. The last thing you do is what he did, give him the sideline for an out and a free step out of bounds to stop the clock. Has anyone heard how that happened? I read the Enquirer site, but no one seemed to ask if that was the called coverage, or if Leon got confused or what.
Ickey44
On the dot com he explains that he was guarding the inside route instead of outside route. He doesn't say if that's what the play was called for though. I wanna know why he was playing 10 yards off the line of scrimmage. Knowing that they're blitzing the offense could've thrown a quick screen and Hall couldn't have done anything about it.
101Airborne
That's not really much of an explanation from him. Why on Earth would you give up the outside route in that situation? I didn't get to see the position of the safeties on that play, but I would think you'd have the CB cover the outside and have the safety cover the inside while you blitz from LB. That way even if he makes the catch and gets past the CB the safety can clean him up and the clock runs out on the longer gain.We saw he was covering the inside route, the question is "WHY?!" Ickey44
I wish I could tell you. I've been wondering the same thing. He doesn't explain that part and I doubt he will. Marvin will undoubtedly be asked about that today and I'm sure he'll dodge the question, too.
Walrus
This, according to the .com...Hall, the San Diego product, also had a bucketful of emotions after his first NFL game in his hometown. Hes having a Pro Bowl-type season, but he had his worst game of the year in giving up two touchdown passes even before the snap before the winning field goal. Thats when he let Chargers receiver Malcom Floyd do exactly what he wasnt supposed to let him do: Get 15 yards on the sidelines to stop the clock with eight seconds left. Never mind that safety Chinedum Ndukwes blitz was only about a whisker late.Hall said he was playing inside when Floyd made his break to the outside.I was playing the inside. I know when I look back on the film I should have had a better break and I've got to contest the ball," he said. What was it? At the 35, 40? We didnt want to give him that because we know theyve got a good kicker. So Ndukwe was blitzing and he didn't have safety help. I guess that's why he was playing inside? I guess that's why he was playing inside? That would be the case.Hall just played his worst game as a Bengal, if not his worst game the last two seasons. Maybe the pressure of playing in his hometown got to him. Nelson offered him almost no support throughout the game, though. I might've underestimated Crocker's importance to the defense. SupaBran
Leon Hall straight lost that game for us almost single handedly. He got burned all day and that horrible defense on the last drive was inexcusable. Andre Caldwell cost us a touchdown on that last drive with his redikulusly retarded fumble when we would have scored a touchdown and won the game IMO rather than having to tie it with a field goal. Caldwell may have won us the games vs. Balt. and Pitt. but he also lost us the games vs. Oakland and now San Diego IMO.

I was a little worried about him coming out of Mich. because of this. He has limited the bad games in the pro's and has become a much better pick than I ever expected him to be.Just go kick KC's butts.WHO-DEY

If any of those other redzone possessions gets us a TD instead of a FG we're not having this discussion. They win as a team and lose as a team. No one player decides the outcome of a game. You can't look at a game based on would haves, could haves, should haves. Caldwell shouldn't have fumbled. We could have gotten a td if he hadn't. Hall shouldn't have blown the coverage. Palmer shouldn't have done the spike towards the end of the first half. They lost a tough, close game as a team. First thing you and I have agreed on today.
