Bengals cut Shaun Smith

With the Bengals limping at safety, they activated rookie cornerback Rico Murray and released defensive tackle Shaun Smith Saturday just before the club left for Sunday's game in Minnesota.

Murray, a free agent out of Kent State, comes off the practice squad for the first time this season after a week starting safety Chris Crocker (ankle) and backup safety Kyries Hebert (knee) didn't go full in practice. Smith signed on Wednesday and it is doubtful he would have been active Sunday.

...and come Monday Murry will be cut and the Hamburglar resigned. Later in the week, once Murray passes waivers (he will) he'll be back on the PS.

Yeah, something like that...

Well, here we are Tuesday a.m. and I haven't seen any word that Hamburglar's back. I did, however, see a note on PFT that Crocker is out 2-3 weeks now, meaning Murray is still needed on the active roster. Looks like Smith may end up falling victim to bad timing.

I don't know about that. Rico Murray isn't going to see the field anyway, and judging by the way our D-Line got worn down in the last game, we sure needed an extra DT.

Anyway, the game against the Chargers could get ugly with both our starting safeties now out. Man, the Vikings sure took advantage of Tom Nelson both in the passing game and the running game. The middle of the field was was open

Naturally Nelson was exposed and they targeted him. He's an undrafted rookie used on ST. There's a reason for that. Hopefully Zim comes up with the schemes to minimize Nelson's exposure and even use his strengths to make some plays.

But yeah, the accumulation of injuries has finally caught up the D. Still playing hard though, can't ask for more than that.

Just wait until Gates gets his way with Nelson.

Reedy tweeted earlier today that he thought the Bengals would be looking at safeties this week...not sure if there's anything out there.

Can't be good for the Hamburglar, tho Reedy also reported that as of yesterday his stuff & nameplate were still in a locker at PBS.
