But now I'm supposed to belive his presence is the key to everything?

I have no control over what you believe. But the plain fact is that the Bengals passing game, never prolific this season to begin with, has dropped off even more following the loss of Henry. Not much to be done about it at this point; there's no free agent solution sitting on a couch somewhere waiting for the phone to ring, and Jerome Simpson isn't going to be riding to the rescue. Best they can do now is clean up what they've got in terms of drops and penalties. Bottom line is that the WR corps, which we all thought was pretty solid and deep going into the season, has underwhelmed from top to bottom. Which, no doubt, will provide you with ample opportunity to exhume your "bastard sons of Paul Brown" rant next April when they go WR in the first round.

You're giving a remarkable amount of credit to a player who managed to catch just a dozen balls this season, and only scored twice. In fact, Henry produced exactly one deep ball this year and never played enough snaps to be a major contributor for the third year in a row. Of course you can attempt to wave away his lack of production by claiming he was a valuable decoy, but don't expect me to shed too many tears over the loss of a decoy or his mostly imaginary value to the team.

Well I'm fine with Coles so maybe I'm not the guy to ask this question, but why couldn't Jerome fill your need for a decoy? Isn't that rant based soley on the deep speed a player has while ignoring his lack of production?

Bottom line is that the WR corps, which we all thought was pretty solid and deep going into the season, has underwhelmed from top to bottom.

So let's stop with the decoy rant and get to the heart of the matter. Opposing teams can apparently take Chad out of the game at will due to his inability to defeat double team coverage.

Yeah, well, I know a guy who knows things, and he says we finally trade Chad to the Redskins for two 1st round picks. So there's that.

And you're remarkably quick to dismiss a guy who, in a down year for the Bengals' passing game, had already eclipsed last year's production in four fewer games and was on pace for the second-best yardage year of his career. Even in his best year, he didn't catch a lot of balls (36) but a quarter of those were for TDs. Henrys job was never to put up big reception numbers, but to be that deep threat who might -- might -- get three catches in a good game. It has nothing to do with being a "decoy" and everything to do with his actual role in the offense.

He seemed to be doing OK the first half of the year, averaging about 6 grabs and 80 yards a game. Since Henry's gone out, though, he's been cut in half, averaging 3 catches and about 45 yards. So yeah, as I said earlier, losing Henry means teams can spend their time shutting down Chad.

Since Henry's been out they've also had a bigger emphasis on running the ball and they've run the ball almost twice as much as they've passed it.

That only points out how little he produced last season. And we might as well include the season before that as well, ehh?

...and was on pace for the second-best yardage year of his career.

Here's what I see. A dozen catches and two scores. And upon a closer look...only one really big play all season. And yet I'm supposed to believe now, that somewhere within the beating heart of Chris Henry rests the lifeblood of the Bengals passing game?

Even in his best year, he didn't catch a lot of balls (36) but a quarter of those were for TDs.

Factual, but true only when describing a version of Chris Henry that hasn't walked upon the Earth for three freaking years.

And if I'm following what you're saying, Henry's actual role in the offense was to prop up Chad, right? And without that prop Chad collapses. Furthermore, even though the role of "Chad Prop" requires only modest production you believe no other player on the roster is capable of developing into a prop large enough to prop Chad up again.

Granted, it all sounds very different when YOU say it.

Like I said, I have no control over what you believe. But pointing to Henry's number of catches and claiming his role was insignificant betrays a deep misunderstanding of his role in the offense. And no, it wasn't "lifeblood of the offense." But without him the passing game has clearly slipped even further.

Explain to me again why lack of individual production is off the table in this discussion? Then again, if I were to agree there's still the little matter of snaps played and the question how a player so often found on the sidelines could be of vital importance in regards to the entire offense, and more specifically...Chad's ability to produce in any meaningful way.

And no, it wasn't "lifeblood of the offense." But without him the passing game has clearly slipped even further.

And you'd expect the same to be true if the passing game were to lose Coles or Caldwell, right?

Because there is no lack of individual production. That was the point of my mentioning '06, when he caught 36 balls, or about 2.5 a game. This was "a Chris Henry who hasn't walked the Earth in 3 years," right? Yet this season, when he was catching about 1.5 balls a game, he was not significant? An average of one catch a game less is the difference between a titan descending to earth and insignificant? Bottom line, Henry's production this year was about par for the course.

I just have to ask, who has ever described Chris Henry as a Titan descending to earth?

Back then he was a deep threat and big redzone target with a ton of potential to be a great receiver. Now he is a deep threat and big redzone target who will never live up to his potential. He is a talented player yes. He did have an effect on defenses yes. But a Titan descending to earth?

You're holding the sign upside down.

I award you the runner up for post of the week

How did L. Trolls play today?

Does so many things well... like run the wrong route in the 2nd quarter costing Carson an interception

Can't even do a thing against the Browns and Detroit.

What is this guy doing? Worse every week.

Guy is complete garbage as a Bengal. GARBAGE.

I clicked on his profile to be sure and it looked like he was still active. Either way, it made me feel better to say it.

And my response to you may not have been completely accurate. He may still have the ability to read it, I'm not sure. I can assure he will not be responding.
