Our offense STILL has not scored more than 17 points in any game...

FWIW Cleveland does not have a terrible defense, they just have no offense at all. The point of the offense is to score enough points needed to win the game. If the defense scores for us it lessens the need for the offense to score. It's called situational football. Pittsburgh and the Ravens have been playing it for quite some time, especially under Cowher and Billick. Like stated earlier, the important thing is to score when needed. We have been doing that quite nicely.

so, truth be told, you're essentially saying that the team that wins is the one that scores more points than the other, and the team that loses is the one who scores fewer points than the other?

wow

that is so deep, man

In fact, our offense has not scored a TD in the last 7 quarters.

That's a problem come playoff time. If all you care about is the regular season, go ahead and overlook it.

Perhaps you've forgotten that the 7 quarters were played against the Ravens and Steelers? Have you also forgotten that prior to that they score on 10 straight possessions? The offense is fine. They have played some very good defenses. I think you'll see in the next few games the offense will be fine.

As long as the offense is putting up more points than the defense allows....what's the big deal? We're winning games.

Two things spring to mind regarding this for me....

Defense wins rings!

And I remember not to long ago a Bengals team scoring 40+ points against another team...and losing!!

In order for us to progress into and through the playoffs, we have to play well on both sides of the ball. Up to this time, we have played some very tough teams...acknowledged as some tof the best defensively in the NFL. And we have beaten them. No, we haven't put on sh*tloads of points, but we were not expected to. What we have done, is be extremely effective on the defensive side of the ball and prevented teams scoring high on us, whilst making the most of our offensive opportunities. What I have seen over the last couple of games is a steady improvement. We haven't been shooting ourselves in the foot as badly. There is a reduction in stupid penalties. We don't appear to have dropped the ball as often. The protection for Carson is getting more solid, and Carson himself is feeling more confident and on a steady route of improvement. That is exactly what I want to see, at this stage in the season. We have yet to peak. If we can time that for early February, I will be a happy man!

There it is. This sums it up, or as Dennis Green put it, we play to win the game. We don't need to score 40 points a game, just play the game, each game, as it unfolds.

A little bit off topic here...

I don't post here as much as I used to, but is this JoePong guy a Bengals fan? Honestly, it really seems like he's a s**tsburgh troll. Everytime I pop in, it seems he's posting something negative about the team, and if he can't find anything negative, he starts grasping for straws (see: this thread).

Face it, JoePong. We're the real f**king deal this year. We're one of the best teams in the National Football League yielding one of the best defenses in the NFL and one of the best leaders/quarterbacks in the NFL. As much as you must despise it, this team has a real shot at the Super Bowl.

For the record... Herm Edwards played to win the game. Dennis Green let them off the hook. And Jim Mora despises the fact that we are talking about the playoffs.

Pong's a Bengal fan, and I'll vouch for him if needed.

Sure, he's snarky, twisted thinking, frequently crazed, needlessly negative, mostly clueless, and sporadically brilliant....all of the other things so common to Bengal fans.

He's one of us....one of us....one of us....one of us....

sporadically brilliant? Ok, if you define the 2 posts out of his 530 (.00037%) as "sporadic" then I agree.

one of us.

Yeah, I kinda do define it that way.

From message board to message board I've been reading Pong's posts for more than a decade now, and while I'm no closer to figuring out how his wetware works OR why he says the things he does in the manner he typically uses....I'm satisfied he's all Bengal.

That said, his opinions are his own.

Well put. He's not a troll. He's needlessly negative and comes to ridiculous conclusions that make no sense to anyone that isn't a Steeler fan... but he's not a troll.

So he's a non-troll that just sounds like a troll?

I am not negative. I am about the only person on this board who has supported and defended players like Frostee Rucker and Jon Fanene whoall you guys wanted to run out of town, claiming they were busts.

I am the guy who talked about how I thought Kyle Cook was going to be really good when you guys were complaining that we didn't go out and waste money on a veteran center whose career is almost over.

I have defended chad for years. I was on these boards years ago criticizing the idiots who wanted to run TJ out of town early in his career because he was injured one season. The guy had already proven himself by having over 40+ receptions as our #4 WR in his second season ( I can't remember the last time our #4 WR was that productive by the way).

Then, when it actually came time to let him go when he became a cancer, had a negative influence on chad, and helped us to get off to a horrible start last season by refusing to work out with the team during the off-season and training camp, you guys complained that we didn't re-sign him. I said we were better off.

True, I was getting frustrated with Carson. It had been a long time since he had played well. I was beginning to doubt if he would ever return to form, and thought his constant string of season-ending injuries were a concern. Heck, he's even injured right now and can't hand off with his left hand.

I said for a long time that this offense would not reach its potential with Rudi Johnson as the feature RB because he was too one-dimensional. And I was critical when we took Justin Smith #4 overall. Other than that, I am ususally defending our players against stupid attacks.

I was critical of

I would take 17 points a game and no turnovers in a heartbeat...If the O got those 17 points running up and down the field and wore out the opposing D I'm all for that...Right now the Bengals D is #2 in scoring defense at 16.3 a game, so maybe 17 points is all they need to win...

So in short what Joe P is trying to say is NFC teams don't count when we play them and when "The Team" wins a game against a AFC team it shouldn't count as a win because the offense and defense are to different parts all together

And that the Prong Miester would be happier if we were 1-8 and scoring 30. PPG. I understand now Joe

When I saw the tital of this post I knew who started it before I saw who started it

I knew it was Joe A.K.A ( I hate Carson P, anything CP does, anything CP tries to do) Prong.

Some say Joe is a Troll. Some try to defend Joe and say he is no Troll. But I'm not one of those people. He may not wear Steeler shirts or got a Colts hat or stuff like that. But what he says is everything Neg about Carson 100% of the time.

After last weeks big win there were two Steeler fans that came here and congratulated are members for a great win Steeler fans now!! Those two Steeler fans said more good things about the team than Joe Prong has ever said. So I say if it acts like a troll sounds like a Troll and talks S**t like a Troll...Joe Prong is a Troll.

And you are an idiot.

I have said more positive things about this team than anyone on this board. And I have defended them every single year against stupid attacks, probably from people like you. I pick them to win the division every single year, and have maintained the biggest problem they have had lately is injuries.

There have been VERY VERY few things I have criticized this team for, and usually, the criticism is deserved. The fact is, Palmer had something to prove this year. He seems to be coming around, which is good.
